BEAUTINA
One of my workers handed me a small envelope.
I took it without looking at the letter.
“You can go.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
She left quietly.
I slipped the letter into my bag.
I will read it later at the office.
Right now I don’t have the patience.
When I stepped outside, the morning sun hit my face softly.
John was already waiting by the car but instead of opening the back door like he always did…
He opened the front seat.
I stopped walking.
He looked at me like nothing was strange. “You should sit here,” he said.
I lifted a brow. “And who are you to tell me where to sit?”
He shrugged lazily. “I want to keep seeing your beautiful face... and your lips,” he added casually.
My eyes widened.
Was he serious right now?
“You should really watch how you talk to me,” I said sharply. “What if the workers hear you?”
He tilted his head. “Hear what?”
“That you kissed your boss!”
He shook his head slowly. “That would never happen.”
I crossed my arms. “Oh really?”
“No one is around,” he said calmly.
And when I looked around…
He was right.
The driveway was empty. The other workers were still inside the house.
He had planned this.
I shook my head and walked toward the back door.
“Come on, beauty,” he said lightly. “You know you shouldn’t be late for your meeting.”
I looked up.
And there it was again.
Those ash eyes.
Something about them made my chest feel strangely calm.
I forced myself to look away.
“John,” I said quietly, “you know how important this meeting is.”
I placed my hand on the back door.
“So please… let me sit at the back.”
Why did that sound like I was begging?
He studied me for a moment. Then suddenly he smiled, it was a slow smile. His teeth were bright, too perfect.
“Since you asked nicely,” he said, closing the front door, “I’ll accept.”
He walked over and opened the back door for me.
I stepped closer.
For a moment our eyes met again.
Then I quickly slid inside the car but the second I sat down, I moved toward the opposite side of the seat.
Just in case he tried something and unfortunately…
I was too slow.
His hand shot out and caught my wrist..He pulled me slightly back toward him.
My heart jumped.
John leaned into the car. His upper body hovered over mine. His breath brushed my face.
His scent wrapped around me... clean, warm and dangerous.
“Where do you think you’re running to?” he murmured.
“I wasn’t running,” I said quickly. “I was just adjusting.”
His eyes softened with amusement. “So if you had really sacked me yesterday,” he asked slowly, “who would take you to this meeting today?”
Why did he keep looking at me like that?
I forced myself to look away.
“I already contacted someone,” I muttered.
He nodded.
“So you just use people and throw them away when you’re done?"
There was something almost sad in his voice. “I didn’t use you,” I said quickly. “I paid you.”
He didn’t respond.
I exhaled slowly.
“I was just tired of seeing the same faces every day,” I admitted. “That’s all.”
He was quiet for a moment.
Then he leaned a little closer.
“Well,” he said softly, “you better get used to this face, beauty.”
My heart skipped.
“Because you’ll be seeing it for a long time.” His gaze dropped to my lips again. And before I could react...
He started leaning closer.
My breath caught.
Was he really about to kiss me again?
My body froze.
Part of me wanted to stop him.
Another part… didn’t.
Then suddenly...
“John!”
A voice called from behind us. Both of us turned. One of the house workers was running toward the car.
“Is something wrong?” she asked worriedly. “Is madam hurt?”
John immediately straightened. His face changed instantly like a switch had been flipped. He stepped back from the car. “There’s no problem,” he said calmly. “I was just helping her with her belt.”
“Oh,” she said with relief. “Okay.” Then she looked at me. “Drive her safely.”
John nodded and she walked away.
He entered the driver’s seat a moment later.
I was still fighting with the belt he had lied about. “You should have told her the truth,” I muttered.
“And say what?” he asked, adjusting the mirror. “That you were trying to kiss your boss.” He looked at me through the mirror.
“I can still tell her if you want.”
My head shot up quickly.
“No!"
His lips curved into a smile. “I knew you didn’t want that.”
Before I could reply, he suddenly leaned back toward me. So fast I gasped.
My eyes shut instinctively.
For a moment I waited. Expected but his lips never touched mine.
Instead…
Click.
The seatbelt locked into place. “We’re already late,” he murmured calmly.
My eyes slowly opened.
His hand was still near my chest, too near. Then his fingers brushed lightly against my breast while adjusting the belt.
My breath hitched.
My body reacted instantly.
Heat rushed through me before I could stop it.
John noticed.
Of course he did.
Because that slow, wicked grin of his appeared again. Then he pulled away and started the engine.
The car rolled out of the driveway smoothly.
I stared out the window, trying to calm my racing heart.
What exactly was happening between me… and my driver?
And why did it feel like I had already lost control…?
