“How could he do that to you?” Tina spat in disgust, “So you mean Daniel r***d you and you are still in that marriage?”
“My dear friend, when will you learn?”
“I can't leave him just like that,” I defended, “this is the point where Daniel needs me the most.”
“What do you mean by that bullshit?” She scoffed, “leave that man alone! Leave that man alone!” She said shaking my shoulders vibrantly to see if she could get some sense into my head but I know I could fix this.
“I can fix our marriage. This is the chance I've been waiting for for so long.”
“What do you mean by that?” She squinted her eyes waiting for me to drop the news.
“Look Tina,” I held her hands, “Daniel has amnesia.”
“What?” She covered her mouth in shock.
“I know i shouldn't be happy,” tears rolled down my cheek, “but this is my chance to make things right. I can change him Tina.” I squeezed her hands tighter.
“And what if he regains his memory? Mmm hmm? What if he regains his f*****g memory?”
“He will change by then. All that will be a memory.”
“Girl, girl,” Tina snapped her fingers in front of my face, “You're not being smart. Now is not the time to change him. You don't change a grown man, he's not a baby. Now is the time to get that money from him. Take all his money, make him sign papers, dupe him and run.”
“I can't do that Tina.”
“Change all his house documents and landed properties to your name. Sell the hell out of those properties. Get some money in your pocket and get the f**k out and when you done you find you a rich nigga and f**k him.”
“Gosh,” I tapped at her, “You're too raw.”
“I'm telling you girl,” she pointed at me, “you're going to regret wanting to change a full grown baby.”
Those words kept sinking in my mind. But I also could what she wanted me to do. I mean, I've thought of that but I didn't have the heart to do it.
Daniel was my husband and I loved him. I loved him so much.
When I got back home it was already late. Daniel was already dozing off in bed, sleeping and lying down so innocently.
I couldn't harm him. I just couldn't.
I sat on the bed and it made this creaking sound. Then I started pulling off my earring and jewellery and proceeded to putting them inside the side table by the bed.
“You're back my love.”
It was Daniel's voice. It had been a long time since he called me that. Oh yes! He never called me by that term. My love.
“Yes I'm back hun,” I tucked myself in bed and kissed him on his forehead.
“How did go with your friend?” He rubbed my head gently.
“It went well. You know, girl stuff. It was fun.” I smiled.
“You must be tired then. Look at those eyes of yours.” He ran his fingers under my eye bags, “I've been all night waiting for you. I missed you.”
My heart beat on hearing those words.
“Can you hear me?”
“I said I missed you Lexi.”
Goddamn! he told me he missed me.
This is not the Daniel I used to know. I wish he could stay like this forever. Let's just build new memories and forget about the old ones.
“And what if he regains his memory? Mmm hmm? What if he regains his f*****g memory?”
“Girl, girl, you're not being smart. Now is not the time to change him. You don't change a grown man, he's not a baby. Now is the time to get that money from him. Take all his money, make him sign papers, dupe him and run.”
“Dupe him and run. Dupe him and run.”
“Goodnight Daniel,” I pecked his forehead, “sweet dreams.”
I turned off the light and shut my eyes.
