absolutely no " Sophia said as she did not
want rumors of her being pregnant to fly about
Anyone who thinks I got you pregnant before
marriage would be a fool because you're locked in your father's mansion.... I
will hide the contract in a safe place where no one will find it.
Since we're done with the contract " your family will not be allowed to
visit our home after the wedding, you obviously know the kind of people they
are"said the Duke
" I don't mind , I just want to be away from
them as soon as possible and I look forward to being married to you " Sophia
said as she prepares to leave.
" I hope life becomes more interesting with you in it" said the Duke as he gestured for her to take his hand while they leave.
After Sophia left , Theodore told his butler to get an engagement ring and a few
gifts as they would be visiting the Baron's home tomorrow , take away some of
my belongings from my room so she can enough space to keep her belongings after
the wedding …. then he left the door way and walk inside
" wow , she'll be staying in your room " the butler exclaimed
"She'll be my wife, I'm just following
tradition " said the Duke
" I have work to do, if anyone asks to see me please send them away as I'll be busy "
Theodore said as he walked back to his study.
Meanwhile Sophia sat quietly in her carriage as she headed back home,
she pinched herself to be sure she wasn't dreaming..." I'm going to marry the Duke she thought in
disbelief, who would her thought the Duke would take her proposal seriously...
today is going to be my last day dealing with my family, once the Duke comes to
make his intentions know tomorrow, no one would be able to bully or interfere
with her anymore, she would Theodore's woman and no one in their right senses
would want to get him angry " she said to herself as the thought about
tomorrow.
As the carriage got to her mansion , she saw her father standing outside with his
hands on his waist and her stepmother stood beside him … when the carriage
stopped, she opened the door and walked inside the house.
" good morning Clare " Sophia greeted her
stepmother
" your silly father must be out of his mind to
allow you leave this home, what would say if they saw you riding out in town" Clare said
" I did not leave the carriage mother" Sophia
Said
" how many time have I told you that I'm not
your mother, your mother ran away and left you here and I am not going to do
her Job for here " Clare said furiously
"I'm sorry " Sophia apologized with her head
bent down
" get back inside your room , I'm tired of
seeing your hideous mask and your presence irritates me" Clare said turning her
back for Sophia to leave
" she speaks as though she isn't part of the
reason why I wear a mask " Sophia thought to herself as he walked away
" it will all be over soon" Sophia cheered
herself up
Upon reaching her door she found her it slightly ajar, a first she thought it was
her stepmother who left the door open after searching for her but when she saw
Amelia standing by her windows, she felt
tight knots in her stomach
" I thought we're not supposed to have pets" Amelia said holding Sophia's kitten in her hands
" please don't hurt her " Sophia pleaded
" oh don't worry I'll take good care of her" Amelia Said as she threw the cat
out of the window and watched it fall from such high height
Sophia dashed out of the room hoping the kitten would live
But the kitten was so young and didn't survive
the fall, Sophia cried her eyes out but no one cared, they all stucked with the
fact that pets were not allowed into the mansion….. Sophia went to her to be alone until the Duke arrived tomorrow .
The Duke arrived at the Baron's home the next day
"Good morning Duke Theodore, to what do I owe this surprise visit?" The Baron asked as he stretched out his hand for a hand
shake which the Duke left hanging
" Duke Theodore you are here to marry his
daughter be nice to him" Said Henry to
the Duke
" I have something to discuss with you "The
Duke said as he smiled and shook the
Baron's hand
" should we go to my study?" The Baron asked
pointing at his study as he was curious
" no it is something I want to discuss with
your whole family" the Duke answered
" Baron you must be aware that I'm looking for
a wife , after sometime to think I have decided to marry your daughter Sophia
" the Duke said as he sat down
The Baron chocked and thought he had heard the Duke wrong but from the look of horror on Amelia and Clare's face he knew he
had heard the Duke correctly
"Duke Theodore why would you want to marry
Sophia, there's a a rumor of her being cursed and it would affect your reputation " said the Baron
" I'm not one to care about baseless rumors and there are plenty of rumors surrounding me " replied the Duke
" you and my daughter are two different people, you are special " said the Baron
" I am special and your daughter is not?" The
Duke asked
The Baron was caught off guard by the Duke's
question, he had a low opinion of the Baron already and this made him more irritated
" I agree with my husband that Sophia isn't suited for a man like you, Amelia on
the other hand has been raised to be a perfect wife" said Clare
"
the more you all talk, the more I see that you have totally cast Sophia aside,
is she supposed to stay with her father her entire life and not get married?"
