I walked beside Lucas, my footsteps cautious as I tried to match his pace while nervously playing with my fingers.
His sudden appearance caught me off guard, but in that moment, I felt a surge of gratitude. "I didn't think you'd come here so unexpectedly," I said, my voice measured.
“How did you even know where I live.” I think to say but decided not to.
His jaw tightened as he replied, "I followed my wife. I wanted to make sure that she knows I’m not stupid just because I play along with all her lies." I could feel the anger in his voice which was very unlikely.
He opened the car door for me, and I nodded a quiet thank you before sliding into the seat. In a few seconds, he joined me, his movements swift, and then he instructed his assistant, "The office."
