Chapter six

1443 Words
— Recovery — Morning finally came Alice hadn’t slept at all, a peaceful sleep that is. Her mind couldn’tet her sleep, the night was restless and full of sorrow, her body was killing her. It felt like her flesh was slowly burning with every turn she took, like it was being ripped off her. Alice laid on the hospital bed facing the ceiling, the blue and white sheets were covering her. Two or three tubes where connected to her left arm, one was for checking her vital signs while the rest were intravenous drip passing glucose into her system. The door open and one of the nurses appeared in the room, she had a tray of her medicine. Alice turned her head facing the young nurse who smiled at her before walking up to her, “How are you feeling?” she asked as she placed the tray down. “Feeling like s**t, but I’ve been through worse.” Alice tried giggling but soon regretted it when her stomach muscles hurt like hell, she simply just let out a sigh. The nurse was checking her drip and her vitals when she stopped and gave Alice a sympathetic smile. She patted her on the shoulder, “It gets better.” she said while handing Alice the medicine, Alice took it willingly from her hands and then drunk them. “I doubt it.” Alice said once she placed the cup down back on the tray. The nurse with one last look on Alice left the room but she had a faint smile on, Alice laid back on the bed once the door closed shut. It didn’t take long till the same nurse returned but with food this time, and the tray she brought was stuffed with food. The nurse laid the tray down on her legs, “Eat up, you need the energy to recover quickly.” she helped Alice sit up, once she was seated Alice looked at the food with a frown it was too much. She tried opening her mouth to object but the nurse spoke first, causing Alice to shut up. “No but’s, last night my colleague said you didn’t eat. So I know you are hungry so eat or I’ll feed you.” Alice didn’t alter any word but rather just took the spoon into her mouth, Jane the nurse watched her from the seat with a satisfied smile. Alice ended up finishing the whole tray of food with the help of Jane, that being the first meal she actually ate with a smile and actually taste. Alice was seated on the bed when her sister appeared through the door alone, Avery wasn’t with her. Alice looked a bit confused but masked out the face with no emotion, Mercy sat on the couch on the left side of the room. Mercy cleared throat before she began to speak, “So I’ll cut the chit chat short, mum is sorry, we are sorry and—” “Way to cut it short” Alice cut her sister short, her tone was full of sarcasm she crossed her arms in front of chest. Mercy gave Alice a deadly glare, “Just listen will you Alice.” Alice shook her head in agreement and gestured with index finger and thumb zipping her mouth. Mercy rolled her eyes at her, “As I was saying, mum won’t send you back to BLI. She is so sorry Alice, she hasn’t stopped crying and I miss my little sister.” Mercy’s eyes gave out more emotion than the tone she used, Mercy meant every single word and her eyes shouted it. “No!” those were the words Alice said once Mercy spoke, Alice displayed no emotion she didn’t want to go back to the place that caused her so much pain, to the people who did. “Do you accept me?” she asked Mercy looking directly into her eyes. Mercy stared at her like she had went crazy, her face showed no emotion she was waiting on an answer, the one Mercy couldn’t give it caught her off guard. Mercy altered no word which gave Alice all her answers. She sat on the edge of her bed getting ahold of the drip she stood, Mercy watched Alice walk to the door. Alice open the door, “That says enough where I stand with both of you, so please leave and tell your mother I deny her offer. Since neither of you can accept the true I would rather rot in that hell hole you sent me to. Please leave.” Mercy looked at her speechless, how could her sister be so cold towards both of them. “Alice please, we’ll try. It’s not easy for us you know.” Mercy now stood right in front of Alice, Alice broke out into a laugh.“And did I say it’s easy for me? All you say is us, you and her. Do you know how I’m feeling in the slightest? Do you even care or is it just the guilt.” she had now pushed Mercy far away from her without even touching her. Mercy was quiet which made Alice continue talking, “You know what, I’m not coming to stay with you. I’ll recover and go back or run away but these two places don’t deserve me, you don’t deserve me.” tears were running down her cheeks, she opened the door even wider. “Please leave, I’m tired and I would like to rest.” Both the sisters stood there, one crying and the other speechless. Jane appeared by the door with a tray of food and medicine, she looked at Alice then at Mercy, she got a bit of what was happening. She stood in between them, turning her back to Alice. “Uh ma’am, I think you should live, Ms. Alice here needs to eat and take her medication.” Mercy simply shook her head then left the room, Alice was still gripping the door knob. Jane placed the tray down on the bed then walked back to Alice, she got a hold of her hand moving it from the door then closing it. She directed Alice to the bed, Jane helped her sit down when she sat she handed her the tray. Alice looked up from her plate with tears in her eyes, Jane stood there giving her a slight smile. Her blue eyes contained much more then she was displaying, she had an urge to keep Alice safe for some reason. “Thanks for that.” Alice broke their silence. “No need, I could tell you needed the help.” Jane remained silent, she was fighting the urge to ask questions but Alice knew why she went silent, so she took it upon herself and began to speak. “That was my sister, Mercy. She came to apologize on behalf of the woman who came yesterday.” Jane grew interested in the conversation, “Who is the woman to you, what did she do.” she asked as she sat down on the couch, she leaned towards the left arm chair. Alice swallowed her soup, “That is Avery May, the woman who gave birth to me, I know right, crazy. Anyway she sent me away to block lesdar institution so you know I’m here, tried to commit suicide so yeah.” once she finished explaining she licked the spoon clean then dipped it in the soup again. Jane instantly remembered what BLI did and what it was founded for, some homophobic bitches came up with it to ‘save’ the children they said, all it did was bring trauma and self hate. “That institution is for—” “Homosexual girls, yep. To try and change us.” Alice cut in, she actually had a smirk on her face when she said that. “Oooh, shitty mother.” Jane snapped disgust filled her sentence, Alice just started laughing, cause it was true her mother wasn’t the best. There was silence once again, Alice continued with her soul and Jane just sat there. A lot of thoughts where running through her mind, Alice could not go back there or home. “So where will you go once you recovered.” she asked, the question caught Alice off guard, where would she go after all this. “I don’t know, the streets.” she giggled at the thought. Jane shook her head, neither of that was funny, “Come stay with me, I have an apartment not that much but it could fit us.” Alice dropped her spoon, she looked at Jane not believing a single word she just spoke. “Are you sure, I’m a lot to handle—” “I’m sure Alice, you can’t go back there.” Alice shook her head in agreement then she finished her soup, but her mind couldn’t stop thinking of what it would be like to finally live again, she owed Jane her life.
