Keeping Up With The New Identity

CHAPTER FIVE Keeping Up With The New Identity Maud's POV I looked at one of the ladies as she walked away, I still couldn't understand what she meant by that. I stood at akimbo as I thought to myself, does that mean that I have lost the job?, my only way to becoming the team's captain?, does that mean that the criminal CEO will keep going Scott free?. The person needed had been chosen?. For some minutes I forgot about my main reason of taking up the mission, I knew the reason I decided to do that was because of the gain I would get at the end of it, and that was becoming the team leader which I had always wanted. I forgot about that reason and for once, I thought about the effect of me not getting the job, that meant that a criminal would go around Scot free. What was the aim of creating a secret agent team like ours then?, when we can't even make a criminal pay for their crimes. "No," I said to myself and pulled out of the long thought, I quickly made my decision as I walked into the office, and that was forgetting the fact that I was going to become the team's captain and focusing on bringing the CEO criminal to justice. I rushed into the office and I met a man with another lady, who also had the same file I had in my hands with her. "Who are you?," that was the first word the man said as he looked up to give me a hostile glare. I cleared my throat and bowed, this time I thought about my name and took a quick glance at it before I could say anything, "My name is Cheryl Smith," I responded and looked up at him, "I am here for the interview," I added. The young man, which I was sure was the described Jason, he chuckled as he folded his arms across his chest, "For the interview?," he asked and laughed, "Weren't you told by anyone on your way here that the interview has come to an end and I already found the one who will work as the CEO's secretary," he added. I bent my head again, giving him the respect which I felt like it was needed to make him give me a chance, "Well, I just hope you give me a chance to prove that I am the right one," I said and looked up at him, meeting up with his eyes and his shiny teeth, he was smiling, I really didn't know what was funny, "I can prove to you that I am the right one, I can help the CEO with whatever he wants," I tried to persuade him. He was still smiling when he worked to me, he stretched out his hand, "Congratulations," he murmured. I looked at his hands which was still stretched out, congratulations?, for what?, I didn't really know why I was being congratulated, I just hope that it was for a great reason. "Won't you take the shake?," he asked and I quickly shook his hands, "Congratulations," he said once again. I was forced to spit out the question running through my mind, "Why...why am I being congratulated?," I asked. "That is because you are already the CEO's secretary," he announced and my mouth fell open, was that a miracle?, or there was more to it than I thought?. I didn't even get to do the interview I was expecting, "The interview has already been done online before you were provided with these files," he explained and that answered all my questions. Although, I still had one question, and that was why I was asked to come for an interview when it had already been done, I knew the captain was the one who did the interview and so I wasn't aware, but I was told that there would be another interview. "The second interview is a probability, and that will be conducted by the CEO himself," he explained further, "He might accept you and he might not, you just have to impress him," he added and moved closer to me. He placed a hand on my shoulder, "I've seen your CV and I've seen the referral from other CEOs you've worked for, I know you are going to do well," he stated. I smiled, as usual, my identity was a lie, the CV and every other thing about me was a lie. "You just have to go to the first floor," he went on and tapped my shoulder, "All the best, I hope to see you later,_ Jason added and walked out of his office with the lady, leaving me all alone. I watched them take their leave, and then I dragged my legs towards the elevator, that fact that I would continue to live my life as a different person was disheartening. Although I knew what I signed for when I decided to join the secret agent team, but for some months, I've been hoping to live as the real me. I wanted to live as Maud Brown and not some other person.
