CHAPTER FOUR A New Identity Maud's POV I alighted from the cab and looked up at the giant building, it was the company I would be working in. I already had it at the back of my mind that it wouldn't be easy, I had never worked as anyone's secretary, but I hoped that I wouldn't mess up. I sighed as I headed for the door, I walked to the receptionist who was busy glancing through some files, "Hello," I greeted and bent my head slightly, I had to make sure that no one get to suspect that I wasn't really there to work, but I had something else on my mind. "How may I help you?," the receptionist asked without looking up at me, I found that rude, but I just had to keep quiet, it's just going to be for a short period of time, all I just had to do was pretend like I've always done. "I am here for the interview," I responded and placed the file in my hands on the counter, "Here is my file," I added. That was when she looked up at me, I wouldn't say she looked at me, because all she did was peep through the glasses in her eyes, "Okay," that was all she said before pointing to the elevator. "Just go to the second floor," she instructed, "When you get there, you will find a man, his name is Jason, he will be the one to interview you," she added and I nodded. "Thank you," I responded and headed for the elevator. I took my steps slowly, hoping she would at least wish me good luck for the interview, but she didn't. So rude. I got into the elevator, and while waiting for it to get to the second floor, I thought to myself about what the questions for the interview could be, and how I could give the best answer to them. I had to get the job, it was compulsory that I do that, there was no other way to get close to the CEO if I don't get the job, I must not mess up. The elevator bell made a loud sound which startled me, was it broken?, or that was just the normal sound, if it was, then it was so scary. I stepped onto the first floor, and looked around, I was hoping to find the man I was asked to go to, but that was when I realized how stupid that was. How could I tell who the man was just by his name, stupid me. I grumbled as I walked to one of the ladies around, she was well dressed in a white shirt and a blue skirt, "Hello, Good morning," I greeted with a big smile on my face and a prayer that she was better in attitude than the receptionist. "Hello," she responded back with a smile and that made me sigh, "A nice morning to you too," she added and cranked her eyes, she pointed at me and stared for some minutes before she asked, "Are you new here?," "Yes, yes I am," I replied, "I'm here for an interview," I added. "Oh!," she murmured and pointed to a door which had a medium size board right above the door with a name boldly written on it. Jason Smith. "Right there," the lady replied, "You have to go into that office," she added. "Thank you, thank you so much," I smiled and turned to the office. "Hey," the lady called, "I wish you good luck," she added, and that was what I was saying about the receptionist, she was so rude. "Thank you," I said again with a smile. "I'm Anita by the way," she stated and stretched out her hand for a shake. I chuckled, "I'm Mau..," I was quick to stop myself from calling out my name, it would have been a great disaster, but what was my new name?, I quickly looked down at the file in my hand and smiled while I looked up at her, "I am Cheryl," I answered. "You have to go now," Anita said, "I guess we will have more time to talk when you get back. I'm sure you are going to get the job," she added and gave me a thumbs up, "All the best," Anita mumbled and waved at me as she ran into a door which seemed like a conference room. I smiled as I watched her walk into the room, have I just made a friend?, but it was just a pity that it wouldn't last, I would definitely get the hate I deserve when I'm done with my job. I walked to the door Anita directed me to, I stopped for some minutes before knocking, and then I waited for more minutes to get an answer, but I didn't get any. I knocked on the door again, and still no answer came, what was going on?, did Anita gave me the wrong direction?, but considering what the rude receptionist said and the direction Anita gave me, there was no doubt that it was his office. The receptionist told me to ask for Jason, and right up the door I was standing was his name written on it. I was about to knock again when the door opened by itself, and I could see some ladies trooping out of the office, they all had the same file I had in my hand, were they there for the same interview?. There was no doubt that they were there for the same interview, but I thought I was the only one, I never knew that there were some other people who were trying to get the position. "Hi," I said to one of the ladies and she gave me a horrible look, I wished I could just teach one of these ladies a lesson, how could they stare at me with those horrible eyes, a whole me who was the ace of my team. "I just want to know if the interview is still going on?," I asked, hoping I would get a good answer. I had to get the job at all cost as it was the only way to becoming the team's captain like I had always wished. The lady chuckled, "Interview?," she asked, "The one person they needed had already been chosen," she responded and walked away. Does that mean that I have lost the job?, my only way to becoming the team's captain?, does that mean that the criminal CEO will keep going Scott free?. The person needed had been chosen?.
