CHAPTER THREE The New Secretary Aiden walked towards the dining table with a prayer of peaceful conversation on his lips, "And here he comes," the first son of the family, Clive said and clapped, "The illegitimate son of the Campbell's family," he added with a loud laugh. Aiden said nothing, he knew exactly what they wanted and that was argument, he pulled a chair to himself and sat down, waiting patiently for his dad's arrival. "Acting calm as usual," his third brother, Duane taunted and gave him a horrible look. Aiden looked up at Duane with a smile, and that got him more angry, he moved closer to him and pulled him up with his collar, "Why don't you just get the hell out of our lives?." he fumed, and Aiden smiled again. "How have you been brother?," he asked and Duane threw a punch at him. He fell to the floor and licked the blood off his lip, he looked up at Duane and chuckled, he still couldn't understand why they hate him so much when he did nothing to them. His little sister, Zoe rushed to him and helped him up, "Are you okay?," she asked with worry all over her face, "Are you hurt anywhere," Zoe asked and turned to Duane, "Why did you do that?," she barked. Duane frowned and pulled Zoe away from Aiden, "You should be with us and not with this illegitimate scoundrel," he snapped. She pulled Duane's hand off her, "And who gave that rule," Zoe retorted, "This isn't a game where we take sides, we are siblings for God's sake, We don't.." she added. "Oh! please," the second son, Clive cut her off, "We are not siblings, we aren't related to that guy right there," he went on, pointing to Aiden, "Everything became bad the moment he came into our lives," he added, "He his a bad luck," he barked. "I think it's high time we stopped fighting," the second son Eric said, "This doesn't feel right," he added. Eric was a bit different from his brothers, he had always stood by Aiden's side whenever his brothers maltreated and tortured him. Eric and Zoe were the only one who seemed to like Aiden, "We can't keep fighting forever, we should set things right," he continued. "Set what right?," Duane shouted, "You both are top dumb to realize that this guy is a fraud, and he his here to rip is of our rights," he grunted. "I'm going to tell dad about this, I won't watch you treat him that way when he did nothing to you," Zoe yelled and walked pass them, but Clive pulled her back. "I'm the first son of this family and you have to do as I say," he stated, "You won't tell anyone anything, and if you do, you will have me to deal with," he growled. Zoe threw his hands off, "I'm not scared of you," she snapped, "I wish I never got to have brothers like you both," she added, pointing to Clive and Duane. "How dare you," Clive roared and raised his hand to slap her but he felt something stopping his hand, he looked up and it was Aiden. "You can't do that," Aiden fumed and threw his hand off, he was able tolerate them maltreating him, he wouldn't complain about their tortures and abuse, but he couldn't stand and watch him do that to the only one who considered him as her sibling, "I won't let you do that," he added and held Zoe's hand, "Come on," he said to her but Clive pulled him back. "And what will you do about it?," he roared and pushed him, "What can..." "What is going on here?," someone's asked. It was their dad, Kirk Campbell. "Dad, Duane and Clive are..." "It's nothing dad, we're just catching up on things we've missed," Aiden interrupted and turned to Zoe who was burning with rage and irritation from what her brothers did, "It's okay," he said to her with a smile. "That's good to see," Kirk replied and walked to the table, "I mean, it's been long I've seen you all getting along," he added and took his seat. Aiden smiled and took his seat too, "How have you been?," he asked. Kirk frowned, "You wouldn't be here If I hadn't call for a meeting," he grumbled, "You don't care about your own father," he added. "Dad..." "Who do we have here?," someone interrupted him, it was his step mom, Mandy, "I thought this meeting was just for the family," she added, giving Aiden a horrible look. Mandy was no different from Clive and Duane, she encourages their bad attitudes towards Aiden, she turned them against him right from when they were young. Aiden loved everyone in the family, including her stepmom but it always hurt him to see them showing nothing but hatred to him. Aiden stood up and bowed, he knew there was absolutely no reason for him to greet her because she would not reply him, but he wanted to give it a trial. Maybe she will reply him this time, "It's been a while," he greeted and looked up at her. Mandy hissed and pretended like she didn't see him, Aiden expected that but it hurts him to see that she still hates him, "Can someone serve us please," she requested and took her seat beside Kirk. The maids walked to them and served Kirk first as always, she served Mandy and then Aiden, "How dare you," Mandy barked, and picked the food away from Aiden, "How dare you serve this brat first," she added and threw the food away. "Mandy," Kirk barked and looked up at her, he knew how bad his wife can be with words, "There's nothing wrong about this," he added. Mandy smirked and turned to him, "What do you mean by that?," she asked and turned to the maid, "Clive is the first son of this house, and he should be served first," she barked. The maid shook in fear, "I..I thought I...I should serve him first because he..he.. hasn't been here for a while," the maid stammered. The maid, Margaret knew Aiden really well, she had been working for the Campbell's family right from when Clive was born. She was always there for Aiden when his brothers and step mom tortured him, she felt like it would be nice to serve him first as he was visiting after a long time. Mandy held out a wicked laugh, she stood at akimbo and shook her head, "I really don't know why he doesn't want to sack you," she barked, Kirk had refused to Mandy's suggestion of sacking Margaret, "You have to do as I say, Clive is the first son, you should learn to respect him as he his the heir of this family," she roared. The maid flinched and stepped back, "I'm...I'm sorry ma," she apologized. Clive readjusted his clothes where he was seated, he always loved it when people refer to him as the heir of the family. "You had better be," she yelled, "Now do what is right," Mandy added and took her seat, she gazed at Aiden with a ugly look. She has hated him right from the moment he was brought to their house, Mandy felt threatened by him. Aiden was always a bright kid and he was Kirk's favorite, this increased her hatred for him. The maid served them all and they set to eat, Mandy kept looking up at Aiden throughout the meal, she just wanted a way to take him out of their lives, she has always seen him as a threat and she would love to take him out of the family. "You really seem like you've not eaten for a long time," Mandy mocked and laughed. "Mom," Zoe shouted and spranged up, "I see why you don't correct Duane and Clive, that's because you are no different from them. Why do you keep treating Aiden that way?," she barked. "You don't talk to me like that Zoe, I'm your mother," Mandy yelled and stood up too. "I don't care if you are," Zoe retorted, "You..." Aiden stood up and hit the table, he sighed and looked up at his dad, "I will take my leave now," he said and turned to leave. He didn't want to cause an argument between them all because of him, he knew they would never accept him as a part of their family no matter what he does. "Wait up Aiden," Kirk called. Aiden stopped and turned to him, "I haven't told you why I called for this meeting," he said and stood up, "I will be announcing the one who will take over the family's business on my birthday next week," Kirk announced. Clive laughed, "If that was why you called for this meeting, then you shouldn't have called him," he responded, "I mean he isn't even a legitimate child so he has no right to anything from this family," he added and shrugged. Kirk smiled and moved closer to him, he placed a hand on his shoulder, "I will be the one to make that decision, not you young man," he smirked and turned back to Aiden, "I will see you then," he said to him and walked away. Aiden nodded and walked out of the house, he got into his car and held out a loud sigh of relief, at least he was able to get away from them without engaging in a fist fight with them. He dipped his key into the ignition and started the car. Aiden thought about what could be the reason behind his brother's hatred for him, he couldn't remember doing anything wrong to them, they've always taunted him since he was young. He drove into his company's garage and alighted from the car, Aiden walked into the company and a lady ran to him, it was Naomi. Naomi was one of Aiden's workers and she also had a crush on him, she has tried to make advances on him several times but she always failed, "I will take this sir," she said with a smile and took his laptop from him. The got into the elevator and on to the first floor of the building. When they got there, Aiden took his laptop from her, "Get back to work," he said to her when he saw that she wasn't moving. Naomi nodded and rushed back into the elevator. He readjusted his laptop on his arms, he hadn't taken two steps before he stopped at the sight of the beautiful lady in his front. He turned back and then to the girl, he wasn't sure if he was seeing right, he wasn't expecting anyone, so he wasn't sure of who the lady was. She turned to him and ran to him, "Good morning sir," she greeted and bowed, "I am Cheryl Smith, your new secretary," she announced with a big smile on her face.
