Chapter 7

1522 Words
~SERENE~ A lot of things I expected to happen when I would meet Whyte but definitely not seeing the hands of another female all over him. It's just not any other female. She belongs to his pack and I know this because I saw her a day ago at the mansion. Although she gave me a mean look, I didn't think much about it but now, I think I know why. She must have something with Whyte for him to have allowed her to be in that position with him. I'm just not sure what that something is, yet. Still, I remember Alaric telling me that he hates s****l or romantic relationships and it makes me wonder why he's with her. I know I shouldn't be freaking out but I couldn't bare the sight of them together. She was mere inches away from kissing him. Arrgh!... It makes me feel stupid, discouraged and jealous. Very jealous, I must confess. It may seem too soon for me to be having these emotions because he showed his disapproval of me from the start and was clear about wanting nothing to do with me but still, I hope he will come after me and at least, give an explanation. I find it hard to believe he has no interest or feels nothing for me despite his disregard for our connection. When I walked away after seeing both of them together, I had no idea where I was going but I knew I wanted to be far away as possible. Alaric pursues after me and he tells me to stop but I do not until he catches hold of my hand. "Calm down." He says. There's nothing I can do except that. "I'm calm. I just want to go back to the house." I reply. I had a feeling earlier on that coming here was a bad idea and it turns out right. "You're crying, Serene." He says and I feel a hot tear run down my left cheek. I clean it quickly but it's too late. Stupid emotions that can't keep in check. "I'm not crying. Even if I am, it's not because of him." "It's quite obvious it's because of him." He replies then, takes a sigh. "Listen. I'm sorry about that. I know all of this must be hurting you but I want you to know that what you saw isn't exactly what it seems." He adds. I think I know exactly what it is. She's his lover obviously. "She's his lover. If not, who is she?" "Her name is Dianne and her relationship with Whyte is a bit complicated. To Whyte, she's just someone who fulfils his s****l desires. But to her, well, __" "Let me guess. She loves him and that explains why she doesn't like me." "I know it's frustrating but trust me when I say Whyte doesn't love her." Alaric tries to convince me but I know this is the way the story always goes. The guy who is with the girl for s****l pleasure initially but ends up falling in love with her. "He is yours despite his reluctance to accept it and if you like him, then you should not give up so easily. We need to go back inside there and talk to him. You need to get a job here in the office. That will keep the both of you close." He suggests and I agree with him. I can't give up easily. My brother, Allen, his life depends on this too. "Fine. Let's go back to meet him but they are still together." I say and in this instant, the girl whose name I just learned to be Dianne passes by the two of us. She shoots me a glare and oh, how much I want to give her a piece of my mind right now. "We can go now." Alaric holds my hand and pulls me with him. As much as I feel sad right now, I have to behave well and not show how very affected I am by Whyte's actions. I couldn't control it earlier on and that was why I walked out angrily but I have to compose myself now. ~WHYTE~ Her jealousy was evident at first when she walked away but now that she's back with Alaric, seeming all composed and putting on a smile, I don't know what to think. Can it be she's faking it or is she suddenly unaffected by my actions? The first will be in my favour because her getting hurt will mean she leaving soon. However, I realised earlier on that it will be tougher in achieving that as I seemingly do not like the feeling I get when I hurt her. It feels like guilt. The type that makes me want to explain my actions and tell her that what she saw earlier wasn't exactly what it seemed but I'll rather the earth swallow me up than for me to tell her any of that. Now that she's in front of me, I take note of what she's wearing. It makes her look different from the other day whereby she was putting on a gown which was old and shabby. She looked beautiful still but now, she looks even more... Wait.. I shouldn't be thinking of this. shouldn't be finding her attractive. "Why are you here?" I ask, none of them in particular while scrolling through my laptop and pretending to be busy. "Since you're not going to ask us to sit, we may as well do that first." Alaric replies and I roll my eyes. He gestures for Serene to sit on one chair and my eyes lock in with hers as she does so but I look away immediately. Alaric sits on the other chair beside her and I decide to ask the question again. "Now, tell me why you're here." "Serene has been alone and idle back at the house so, I decided she should be given a job or something to do here at the office." He answers. If she's the reason why I haven't gone back home for the past two days, why will I want her to work in the same environment that I do? "No."I state my disapproval. "No? Why?" "I don't need to have a reason." I reply. Although I try not to be the alpha who does want he wants and forces his decision on others, I think I'm going to have to be that person at this point because I do not want her anywhere close to me. "That doesn't make sense. You don't have to give her a high position or something. You can make her an assistant to someone else. Any little job." Alaric argues. "This is my company and I get to decide who works here and who doesn't." I declare and Alaric is on the verge of saying something else but Serene stops him. "It's okay. I understand. I'll just go back home." She says and stands up. Alaric tries to stop her but she is quick to leave before he can stop her. "Why are you doing this?" He asks but I ignore him. "I know you try to convince yourself that you're ignoring her because you hate her but the truth is you're afraid that you will fall in love with her if you keep her close." He adds and then walks away. That is not true. That is so not true. I am not afraid of love. I just hate it. If this is what my pack thinks, I'll have to prove to them it's a lie. I don't like being around her but even if I have her around me, it still won't change how much I dislike and want her to leave. I pick up my phone at once and call Rio whom I assume is downstairs. "Stop Serene and Alaric from leaving and tell the both of them to come back to my office." I say to him when he answers the call. It's not long before they return to my office and I shut my laptop close so I can focus on both of them. Serene in particular. "You want a job so I'm going to give you one and just to be clear, it isn't because I want you here in my office but because of what the others are thinking. They think I do not want you close because I'm afraid that I will lose my guard around you or will start to like you but, that is not the case. I just simply dislike you and I do not want to have anything to do with you so I'm going to prove it. I'll give you that job that you want here in my company and to make it even better, I'll make you my assistant." I say. Aside from my connection with her, I feel nothing else for her. I am quite confident that I'll never fall in love. Not even with her and I want to make it known to everyone. "Your job start's tomorrow, Serene.
