~SERENE~
It's been three days now and nothing important has happened. Perhaps it's because Whyte has been out for these three days, or perhaps it's because I've kept to the four walls of my room. After the argument that happened the other day, I've been feeling quite reluctant to associate with any of them. I was never quite the social type and my anxiety makes it so much harder for me.
From a very young age, not only did I get to take care of myself on my own, but I also got to take care of my little brother. I always acted like the strong, brave, elder sister whenever I'm with him, but deep down, I am overwhelmed by a lot of things. I promised to give him a good life, but I can't stop the questions that are constantly going through my head like what if I'm not able to fulfil that promise? What if I fail at my present task?
I can go on and on about the many questions in my head. It's unending, and in these last three days, rather than figuring out what to do, I've found myself being anxious and worried. The only time I felt at ease a little was when Nala came to visit. We were together for a while, and it was even through her that I knew Whyte has been away.
Today, I plan on doing the same thing: staying in my room, eating, and then having another mental breakdown, but I guess that is going to have to change because Alaric suggests I go with him to the office. As it is, Whyte is not only involved in different business but also have different companies, and they all work there.
"Are you sure it's a good idea?" I ask, probably for the hundredth time. I'm pretty sure he's tired of my many questions by now, but I need to be certain. I do not want to go through any embarrassment.
"Of course. You're coming with me. You can't keep spending your whole day doing nothing," he answers.
"So, like, I'll get a job there too? Or are we just breezing in and out?"
"You've never worked for someone before, have you?" He asks. Against my will? Yes, but employed? No.
"Let's just go. We'll figure out something for you to do. Besides, you two cannot keep avoiding each other." He finalizes when I take long to reply.
Nala had shopped for some clothes for me the other day, and by some, I mean thirty or so. I can't remember the exact amount, but they were all beautiful, and from their texture, I could tell they were expensive. One, in particular, stood out for me and that is the strapless bodycon, knee-length gown. It's in the color black, and it became my favourite the moment I set my eyes on it. Perhaps it's the way it fits me perfectly, or the love I have for black dresses. Either way, I like it so much, and it's what I plan on wearing today.
It's a sunny day, and the gown proves to be the perfect outfit. To add a bit of style to it, I put on a scarf around my neck. I've never worn something like this before but I figure I have to be more appealing so I can get Whyte to like me.
"You look great," Alaric confesses and I feel my cheeks heat up. Who doesn't like getting complimented?
"Thank you."
He walks me out and to the car. Everything about this pack screams wealth and power and I see why Owen and his are so threatened by them.
"I am aware that Whyte is into different businesses and I'll like to know more. Were the companies left behind for him by his father?" I ask after a while of silence in the car.
"No. The only one left behind for him is the textile company. Whyte is very hardworking. He went through so many sleepless nights just to achieve all that we have now and despite his young age, he's been able to amass so much wealth and create a name for himself."
"Wow."
"Yeah. He's a workaholic and although it has yielded so much good results. I'm still a bit worried because I feel he only works so hard to distract himself."
"From what?"
"Ever since his father passed away, he has become different and distant." Alaric replies. I'm just learning about this now. I always knew there was something behind Whyte's cold demeanour but never knew it was because of his father.
"What happened?"
"Both of his parents were murdered by the crimson pack."
This revelation surprises me. So Owen was behind the death of Whyte's parents. Is that the real reason why I was sent here as a spy? Because he feels threatened by Whyte?
"I can only imagine how much pain he went through." I say.
"He has been through a lot and that is why I urge you to be patient with him. He may be difficult and frustrating but that is only because he has built a wall around his heart." He explains and I agree. What he went through at a young age broke him and he's learned to use different means to scale through. He doesn't want to get close to anyone emotionally not because he hates love but because he's afraid to love someone and then lose them. He may never accept this truth though but from what I've learned now, I am going to try to prove to him that it is okay to love and have relationships.
"I will try my best to help him."
~WHYTE~
I've been in the office for the past three days now. I'm tired, sleep deprived, angry and I have like a thousand thoughts going through my head. It's one of those moments I dread and whereby I'm utterly confused and I hate it's all because of her.
I want to be as far as possible from her but I know I can't avoid her forever. I feel so uncertain because a part of me wants to get to know her, wants to be around her and it seems as though the more I keep denying it, the more it grows. She has an aura of peace around her and I still remember the look in her eyes the last time I saw her after the argument I had with Alaric. It felt relaxing and it felt genuine but I cannot let how I feel get the best of me. Love is a weakness. One I must avoid if I want to succeed in my goal of revenge.
Right now, my anger seems to be increasing with each second that passes by and I feel irritated and annoyed by everything and everyone around me.
"Where is my coffee?" I ask Rio.
"I asked you an hour ago and you said you didn't need it and I should leave you alone." He replies.
"That was an hour ago. I need it now. Also, tell Kourtney to bring me the files. Do I have to remind you all of everything?" I reply, harshly. Maybe I'm just blowing things out of proportion but I care less right now.
He returns after a while with my request and also did Kourtney. Kourtney has been my secretary for two years now and although she's been good at what she does, I'm annoyed with her about something she did recently.
"You took so long with the arrangements yesterday. You left the clients waiting."
"I'm so sorry about that. It was just for ten minutes and it was due to the fact that the graphic designer took long in sending in the designs to be used for the presentation."
"I do not care. Next time, make sure to put things in order first. It shouldn't repeat itself." I state, in a serious tone and I see how sad she becomes.
"Yes sir, it will not repeat itself." She drops the files on my table and then leaves.
"I don't know what is going on but it's clear you're upset and you plan on pouring it out on everyone," Rio says and while that is true, it doesn't help.
Dianne stepping into my office makes Rio cease what he wants to say and instead, he leaves.
"What do you want?" I ask, bluntly. I know I said to her before that things between us will go the same way it always has but that doesn't mean I want her around me now.
"I heard you've been in the office for the last three days and everyone's been talking about how angry you've been."
"So?"
"Well, I decided to show up and help ease your stress." She replies and starts walking to where I'm seated. She rests on the table in front of me and tries to touch my face but I move away. That doesn't make her stop. She tries to touch me again and also tries to get on top of me and before I can tell her to stop, my office door opens and standing there is Alaric and Serene. Both of them look shocked and it dawns on me that it is because of the position I am in with Dianne which looks very intimate.
I notice how sad Serene's expression becomes and she walks away that instant. Alaric also gives me a disapproving look before going after her. I know I shouldn't care or feel bad because I owe her no explanation but still, I feel something unusual. A feeling I don't want to admit and so in my current state of confusion, I send Dianne out.
"Get out, Dianne. This is the last time I'll repeat this. I'll let you know when I need you."
