The festival crowd eventually returned home, leaving the riverbank quiet again.
Only the three of them remained.
Seren paced nervously near the water.
“This is worse than I thought.”
Luke rubbed his temples.
“You said there were only three Star Listeners.”
“There are.”
“Then what is Ethan?”
Seren sighed.
“A Seeker.”
Allyah frowned.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Seren looked up at the fading meteor trails.
“A Seeker is someone who tries to steal the connection between the stars and the listeners.”
Luke’s jaw tightened.
“So he wants our power.”
“Yes.”
Allyah wrapped her arms around herself.
“Why?”
Seren hesitated.
Then she said quietly:
“Because whoever controls the star whispers can control destiny.”
The words hung heavily in the air.
After a while, Seren excused herself to head home.
“You two should be careful,” she warned before leaving.
When she disappeared down the path, silence settled between Allyah and Luke.
The sky was still beautiful—though the meteor shower was fading now.
Luke sat down on the grass.
Allyah joined him.
For a long time, neither spoke.
Then Luke finally said,
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For dragging you into this.”
Allyah shook her head.
“You didn’t drag me.”
“The stars did.”
Luke chuckled softly.
“Yeah. I guess they did.”
The last meteor streaked across the sky.
Allyah closed her eyes for a moment.
“Do you ever wish you couldn’t hear them?”
Luke thought about it.
“Sometimes.”
He looked at her.
“But if I couldn’t hear them… I probably wouldn’t have come back to Bukidnon.”
Allyah felt warmth spread through her chest.
“And if you didn’t come back,” she said quietly,
“We wouldn’t be sitting here right now.”
Luke smiled.
“Exactly.”
The wind rustled gently through the grass.
Then a whisper drifted down from the sky.
Soft.
Almost playful.
"Two hearts align."
Allyah opened her eyes.
“Did you hear—”
But before she could finish, Luke leaned closer.
For a moment, the world seemed to pause.
The stars shimmered above them.
The river flowed softly nearby.
And Allyah realized just how close Luke was.
Their faces were inches apart.
Her heart pounded loudly.
Luke hesitated.
“As much as I want to kiss you right now…”
Allyah blinked.
“…I feel like the stars are watching,” he finished with a grin.
She burst out laughing.
“You’re unbelievable.”
Luke laughed too.
But neither of them moved away.
Above them, the stars glowed softly.
As if they approved.
