The Unspoken Truth : chapter one
*Chapter 1*
Detective Jameson sat at his desk, sipping his coffee and staring at the cold cup in front of him. His partner, Detective Rodriguez, walked in and cleared her throat to get his attention.
"Jameson, we've got a new case," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "The rich businessman's wife has gone missing, and the husband is frantic."
Jameson raised an eyebrow. "What's the husband's name?"
"Richard Langley," Rodriguez replied. "He's a big shot in the city, and he's pulling out all the stops to find his wife."
Jameson sighed and stood up. "Let's go talk to him."
The two detectives arrived at the Langley mansion and were greeted by a nervous-looking butler.
"Mr. Langley is waiting for you in the study," the butler said, leading them to a lavish room filled with books and expensive artwork.
Richard Langley stood up from behind his desk, his eyes red-rimmed from lack of sleep. "Thank you for coming, detectives. I'm beside myself with worry."
Jameson nodded sympathetically. "Tell us what happened, Mr. Langley."
Langley took a deep breath. "My wife, Sarah, went out for a walk last night and never came back. Her phone and purse were found on the sidewalk a block away from our house."
Rodriguez's eyes narrowed. "Did she have any enemies, Mr. Langley?"
Langley hesitated before speaking. "Sarah had been receiving strange letters and gifts for weeks. I thought it was just some harmless fan, but now I'm not so sure."
Jameson's ears perked up. "Letters and gifts? What kind of gifts?"
Langley's face turned pale. "A dead rose, a black cat's figurine...things like that."
Jameson and Rodriguez exchanged a knowing look. This was no ordinary missing person's case...
