Lucas' p.o.v
I slam the phone down crushing the screen. "Damnit! I growl." James my beta looks over at me and asks, "what's wrong Alpha?" "That jerk Zander wouldn't take my call, I say." "Maybe he was tending to other things and couldn't get away, he offers." I growl again, saying "what do you mean by that James?" "I just mean he's busy at the moment and will call you back Lucas." He's one of the only ones I don't make call me Alpha. We have known each other since we were in diapers. "What about the girl, he asks?" I look up at him, "what about her?" "Well, I know you want her back so what's the plan?" "We need to find out more about her family. Who they are, where do they live, and why they left her in that tree?" I sit there rubbing the stubble. I haven't shaved in a while. I've got bigger things to deal with. "I'm liking the beard coming in, we should leave it, says Matthew." "Do you think our mate will like it? I think maybe she will, said Matthew." We will find out soon enough. "Alpha, we will get her back. The future Luna will come home, James said." "Yeah, but we just need more information on her. Was there anything unusual about her besides not getting her wolf until she was seventeen, I ask?" "Well, some of the elders believe she is some kind of hybrid, he says." "What?" I question him. "What do you mean some kind of hybrid?" "They believe she is a direct descendent of the Moon Goddess and that she has powers, he tells me." "What do you mean she has powers? I used to beat the crap out of her and she would turn up black and blue, not healed." "I'm just telling you what the elders believe." They also said that she is very rare. Once every one hundred and fifty years is a set of twins born and one being female with a white wolf." I turn to look at James, "I want to know more about this. It's just stories someone made up, James says." "So, let me decide if they are just stories, I say." "Yes, Alpha. He knows when I'm being serious I'll give him that." "Good, I'm glad you and I are on the same page, I say." "You are free to leave James, I tell him." As he walks out the door I say, "also I wish to speak to the elders that believe this." "Yes, Alpha. I will find out exactly who believes in this and bring them to you." "Very well, thank you, James." He shuts the door and I stand up and walk over to the bookcase to look for any books that mention this. It takes me a few hours and I was starting to give up on the idea when I found this thick leather-bound book about hybrids. It looks old with handwriting on the pages. I start to read when there's a knock at the door. "Come in James, I say." "Alpha we found something you should know, he says." "What's it about?" "It's about Joelle. We found her pack. They live three hundred miles from here. They are known as the Lite Pack." "How in the world did she get here, I ask?" "We haven't found this out yet. There's something else you need to know." "What, What is it?" "The Lite Pack is allied with Alpha Zander." "You're joking me, right?" "No sir I'm not." "So if she is this hybrid they speak of and he has her what does that mean for us?" "If she is the hybrid that is half-wolf and half-witch and also the mate to Alpha Zander, then we better prepare for war because he will be coming for us because of what we did to her growing up." "I need to speak to my father before we do anything. It's time he steps down and I really become the alpha of this pack, I say." I mind-linked my father, "Hey dad?" "Yes, son, he says." "I would like to you in the office, sir." "Okay, I will meet you there, he says back." I close down the communication and looked at James. "Come with me, I say." We head up to the office and meet my father at the door. "Son, what is it, he asks?" "Let's talk in the office dad, I say." "When are we going to do the Alpha ceremony, I ask my father?" "Is that all this is about? Your mother has been working on that for weeks now. It's in two days, he says." "Oh well, okay good. I'm glad, I say. I would also like to talk to you about the matter of Alpha Zander, I say." "We will figure out a way to get him to be our ally again, my father says." "I don't want him as an ally anymore, I say." "What do you mean? You have to have him as an ally, my father states. He's one of the strongest packs around. He has many warriors." "I don't believe that. It's just him trying to act bigger than he is, I say." "Son, you need to understand how these things work. Just because you think he's a jerk doesn't mean you don't need him. There is something else we need to discuss father, I say." "We have heard rumors about Joelle." "I've heard the same rumors and it's made me wonder if it's true or not," he says. "How can this be, I ask?" I've heard these rumors for years now, but never really thought it could be true, he says." "How did she end up here, I ask?" "Charles found her in the woods when she was a baby. We thought her parents were rogues, he says." "Charles found her?" "Yes, she was only a few months old at the time, he says."
