Jayden's POV:
I have barely heard from Kali for the past few weeks. I have no idea what is going on with her. On social media, she is not that active either. She might have a problem. I told her to share it with me, but nothing. I can't ask her friends. I don't have their social media accounts. I don't even know their names. There is no way I will find them. I can dig into social media, but I don't have that much time. The good news is that I finished my semester. The project went well. The teacher liked it. I had good grades on my tests. For some reason, this doesn't satisfy me. I feel bad for her. Something is bothering her. Usually, she is an active person. We used to talk almost every day. Now, she only reads my messages. There is no response. I have been thinking about something. The thing is that I don't know if I can do it. I can go to visit her. First, I need to talk to my parents. No one knows about her. I won't tell them now. I can say I will be with my friends for a few days. The problem is that my mom might call them. I will deal with this. I have another issue. I have no idea where Kali lives. I only know her studio, but she is probably not there. It doesn't mean I can't check there. Someone might tell me. I hope that my trip will make her feel better.
I convinced my mom that I would spend a few days with my friends. I made her call them, but she didn't do it. When I got the green light, I started packing my backpack. I won't take many things. I plan to go to LA for two days. I don't have much time. Well, I do, but I'm not wealthy. I can't afford to stay for more, even if I would love it. I hope that she will appreciate this time. Maybe I can get her something when I appear. I can't go with empty hands. She is my friend.
I woke up and went to get ready. I had a quick breakfast and went to the airport. The flight was two hours. When I landed, I checked the map to find her studio. I needed the address from the Internet. Later, I got a taxi and gave the driver the place. I thought it would cost me much more. I took a deep breath and walked in. I don't expect to find Kali here, but it's worth a try. I started climbing the stairs until I saw someone. He is one of her dancers.
- Hey.
- Hey. Who are you, and what are you doing here?
- Is Kali here?
- No. Who is asking?
- A friend.
- Do you expect me to believe this? She won't give you an autograph.
- Can you tell me where I can find her?
- Come upstairs. We can't talk here. - he said, and I followed him
- Danny, who is this? - one girl asked
- He claims to be Kali's friend.
- I am.
- Prove it!
- Fine. You can read the messages. This is her private account. Right? - I asked and showed him my phone
- Yes, it is. Where did you get that?
- She gave it to me.
- Liar.
- I'm not. I can call her if you want.
- You have her phone number!
- Yes, I do. This is it.
- It's true. He is not lying. I'm Jasmine.
- Jayden.
- I'm sorry, but she didn't mention you.
- Because it's supposed to be a secret.
- Why?
- I don't know. She wanted it. In case things don't work, she will take this privately.
- I'm not surprised. I'm Alyssa.
- Oh, and I'm Daniel, but people call me Danny.
- I'm Jack.
- Nice to meet you. Can one of you tell me where to find Kali?
- She is probably at home. - Alyssa said
- Why are you here? - Jasmine asked
- She stopped answering my messages and calls. I don't know what is going on.
- Check this out. - Danny said and gave me his phone
- What is this?
- Her ex-boyfriend and ex-best friend made a hate page about her.
- Why would they do that?
- Because she dumped them. They lost followers.
- Now I understand. Can you tell me where she lives?
- I don't know.
- Please. No one knows I'm here. My flight is after two days.
- Wait, where are you from? - Jasmine asked
- Denver.
- You came all the way here for her.
- Yes. I wanted to know what was going on. Will someone tell me her address?
- This is so cute. Do you have a crush on her?
- What? No, I don't.
- Give me your phone. I'll give you her address.
Like that, all of us went to her house. I guess they still don't trust me. It's understandable. I came out of nowhere. I won't lie that LA is beautiful, but I don't see myself living here. Kali and I might walk around tomorrow. I feel like I'm in a new country. Everything looks so different. We arrived at her house. I thought it would be a bit bigger. Famous people love living in mansions. Danny knocked on the door, and Kali opened it. I stayed behind them so she couldn't see me.
- Hey, guys.
- Hello. - Danny said
- It was my friends. They come to see me often.
- What are you doing? - Jasmine asked
- I'm live-streaming.
- Great. I will take that. Thank you. - she said and grabbed her phone
- Why are you here? It's not like I mind, but you didn't tell me.
- We have a surprise you for. It was one for us as well. - Danny said
- What do you mean?
- First, I will say I'm sorry for what I did. I mean, you never told us about this.
- I don't understand. For what surprise are you talking about? If you did something, I'm not in the mood.
- I'll cover her eyes. You get ready. - Jack said
- I'm ready. - I said
- Kali, you can open them.
- Hey.
- What? Is that you? For real?
- Yes. You can touch me if you want. - I said and stretched my hand
- No way. - she said and ran for a hug
- Are you sure they are friends? - Alyssa asked
- Girls, you are streaming. - Jack said
- Oops. I forgot about that.
- Why are you crying? What happened? Did I do something? - I asked
- No, I'm sorry. It's not because of you.
- Jasmine, stop the stream.
- But.
- Jasmine!
- Ok, ok.
Kali's friends stayed with us for a while. Later, they went home. She gave them free next week. They already told me what happened, but I want to hear it from her. I can't believe her ex-best friend will do that. Kali fired her, but she had a reason to do it. I don't see anything wrong with that. She took me to her room and sat down on the bed.
- Why are you here? How?
- I came because of this. - I said and showed my messages to her
- I don't understand. These are your messages.
- Yes, but there is no answer. I tried to call you, but you didn't pick up. Are you mad at me?
- What? No, I'm not. It has nothing to do with you.
- Then why did you give me the silent treatment?
- It's not that. I didn't want you to care about this.
- But I will because you are my friend.
- I'm sorry. I didn't want to hurt your feelings.
- You should share with me. We are friends. Right?
- Of course, we are. I won't replace you for anything in the world.
- Good.
- They told you, didn't they?
- I came to search for you in the studio.
- I'm sorry that I didn't tell you. I wanted to deal with this alone.
- I know it's hard for you, but you can't let them win.
- But they did. All they wanted was for this to get me.
- Because you let them. Start posting things on social media, even if they are old. No one will know.
- I don't want to think about this now. - she said with tears in her eyes
- Hey, I'm here. We can talk. You know I'll listen to you.
- Thanks. You have no idea how good it feels. - she said and hugged me again
- I know. I have this at home. This is why I'm here. For you. - I said, and she looked at me
- I appreciate it. No one else has done this for me.
- There is a first time for everything.
We kept talking the whole afternoon. She wasn't happy when I told her I would be here for only two days. She wanted me to stay more. I would love it, but I can't. Mom thinks I'm with my friends. If she calls them, I'll be in trouble. I can't tell her where I am. I promised Kali that this would be a secret. It's not anymore. I'm sure many of her fans saw this. Hopefully, they won't ship us together. It's not like I mind, but we are only friends. After some time, she went to make dinner. I offered my help, and she accepted.
- The food is good. - I said
- I didn't know you could cook. - Kali said
- Me either. - I said, and she laughed
- We can make breakfast tomorrow.
- I can't.
- Why not?
- I have to go to my hotel.
- What are you talking about?
- While I waited for the plane, I checked some cheaper hotels. I called one, and they had free rooms.
- Did you book it?
- Not yet. I will do it when I go.
- Great.
- Why?
- Because I'm not letting you go.
- What?
- I won't let you sleep in a cheap hotel. I have a guest room. You will stay here with me.
- Are you serious?
- Yes, I am. You are staying here.
- I appreciate it, but I can't do that. It's enough that I came uninvited.
- Jayden, you are my friend. I won't let you spend your money. Is this why you are here for two days?
- Yes. Also, no one knows I'm here.
- You didn't tell anyone.
- No. I have to be home soon.
- Can't you stay for one more day? Please.
- I can't. If my mom finds out, I will be in trouble.
- I'll cover you up.
- How?
- Ally will get a free ticket to my next show in Denver.
- Kali, this is not how it works.
- Please, don't leave. At least, not so soon.
- Don't make it harder for me. Enjoy the time I'm here.
- But.
- Please, listen to me. When you come for a show, we can see each other again.
- When will that be?
- It depends on you.
- Fine. How is your semester?
- It ended. It's my summer vacation.
- Great. You can spend it here.
- Kali.
- At least I tried.
I will miss her when I leave. We understand each other well. I thought having a long-distance friendship wouldn't work, but it did. I mean, at least for now. I have no idea how long I should keep this a secret, but I don't mind. I want to avoid the questions. I have no idea how it happened. It just did. It's not like I'm not happy about it. After all, it's not every day that your friend is a famous person. She won't consider herself like this, but it's true. I'm sure her fans have her back. They will keep her away from haters. Also, I'm here. I hope that I can make her feel better.
