Jayden's POV:
Kali has been texting me almost every day for the past three months. I have no idea why she does this, but I'm happy. She has moved on from what happened. We agreed not to talk about this anymore. She has surrounded herself with good people. I don't mean myself. Her dancers are her friends. We are chatting online. She gave me her private profile on social media. I had no idea she had one. These are for her friends and family. I don't think someone can see who she is texting from her public accounts. That is her choice. Sometimes, we use FaceTime. I'm not the best-looking person, but I agreed to do it. Mostly, we are talking about our days. Of course, no one knows about this. That's why I don't want speculations. We don't date or anything similar. I will say it's two friends who like to talk. Nothing is unusual. When we speak about Kali, things get complicated. Also, she asked me to keep this private. I know how this might reflect on her career. I don't want to do anything that might hurt her. Some people already did it. I can't be one of them. I have no idea why I care so much, but I do. She became my friend. One day, there won't be a need to hide. I think she enjoys this secret friendship. It's funny, but I don't want to do it forever. I hope that things will go in the right direction for us.
I have more projects to do this semester. Luckily, they are group ones. My friends are helping me all the time. Everyone will receive a grade. This year we have to make a website using online tools. It has to be something that will attract the viewer and will make him spend more time on it. We have some progress, but there is more work to do. Bailey is working on the colors. I'm ordering the objects on the screen. Tom and Andrew will choose the products for the website. This should look good.
Currently, I'm in class. Some of them I find useless. At least, I don't think I will need them. When it finished, I walked out. My friends and I decided to go for lunch. I have a class in the afternoon as well. We went to the closest restaurant. Tom didn't want to walk too much. Our food was ready for an hour. Someone wanted to eat fish. This takes time. I got ribs with cabbage. They were delicious. It doesn't mean this can't replace my mom's cooking skills. I felt eyes on me and looked up to see Bailey.
- Do you want something?
- No, nothing.
- Then why are you looking at me like that?
- Like what?
- I don't know. Can you stop?
- Why are you happy?
- What? What kind of question is that?
- Answer me.
- I don't know. Because I am. There is no specific reason.
- Is it because of someone?
- Why are you asking me all these questions?
- Because you are different. I want to know who I should thank for that. The old Jayden is back.
- No one. Can we not talk about this?
- Avoiding my questions.
- Guys, can you stop her?
- I want to eat. Andrew can deal with her. - Tom said
- Don't count me in. I'll eat. - Andrew said
- Fine. I won't talk.
- It's not something that bad. I'm happy for you.
- What about you? I should say you are in a good mood. Did you meet someone?
- I wish. My prince won't come yet.
- There are many boys in the university. At least one of them should've caught your attention.
- It's not enough. Also, I have three boys right here. - she said, and I laughed
- If you count on us, you will die alone.
- These two won't let me. - she said, looking at the boys
- We'll find you a boyfriend. You only have to tell us your specifications. - Tom said
- I appreciate the effort, but I prefer to do this alone. After all, I'll date him.
- Why don't you find a girlfriend? - I asked
- Girls take too much time. The other reason is that they get mad if you spend too much time with your friends.
- Every girl wants attention. That is the point of dating her. Otherwise, you don't need to call her your girlfriend. - Bailey said
- Now I know why you are single. - he said, chuckling
- But at least my taste is better than yours.
- Let's not argue. I want to eat my food in peace.
- You and I are on the silent team. - Andrew said
After lunch, I went to my last class of the day. I received a message from Kali. Luckily, Bailey didn't see it. Otherwise, she will start asking questions. Right now, I can't tell her anything. Kali asked about my day and what I was doing. She said she was working on a new song. I will have the privilege to hear it first. When the class finished, Bailey and I walked to her house. I started coming here more often. This time, without having a problem. My friend took some snacks and led me to her room.
- Say it.
- You should do it. Who is she? I'm dying to know. - she said, chuckling
- I already told you.
- No, you lied to me. Jayden.
- Bailey.
- Please. I won't tell anyone. I promise you.
- I won't tell you anything.
- So you admit it?
- What?
- You admit that there is a girl. Is she pretty?
- When I meet her, I will tell you.
- You have never seen her.
- Yes, because she doesn't exist.
- Oh, come on. Please, don't lie to me. I know you.
- Are you sure?
- I am. Why don't you want to tell me? I can keep secrets. Don't you trust me?
- I do.
- It doesn't look like that.
- Look, I promised not to tell.
- Since when have you been keeping your promises for girls?
- Can we change the topic?
- No, I want to know everything. Who is she?
- I can't tell you. I'm sorry.
- She is perfect, isn't she?
- It depends on.
- On what?
- The criteria. Look, I don't want to talk about this.
- Do you like her?
- Not that way. We are keeping it friendly.
- Only? For how long?
- The past three months.
- What? Are you sure this is friendly?
- Completely.
- I hope you have luck. You deserve it.
- Thanks.
I stayed with Bailey for dinner. That wasn't the plan, but her mom invited me. I couldn't say no. Otherwise, it will look like I'm here only if I have a problem or don't want to be with her parents. The other reason is that her mom cooks heavenly. No wonder why Bailey eats most of the time at home. I'm the same, even if we eat outside sometimes. This time, her mom had extra time to decorate the plates. They look amazing. Now, I'll be sad if I ruin it.
- Don't you like the food? You haven't touched it. - Bailey's mom asked
- No, I don't want to ruin the effort.
- Oh, it's ok. I don't care. - she said, chuckling
- But I do.
- Let me help you. - Bailey said and stabbed her fork in my food
- Bailey!
- Here you go. Now eat.
- You are in a weirdly good mood today.
- Maybe. You are the same.
- Excuse me.
- You still haven't told me who she is.
- We talked about this.
- Jayden, do you have a girlfriend? - Bailey's mom asked me
- No, I don't. Your daughter is on a high today.
- What? That is not true. Mom, don't trust him. I'm fine.
- Will someone tell me what is going on?
- He is texting a girl but doesn't want to tell me who she is. I'll die of curiosity.
- Why do you want to know so much? Are you jealous that she will replace you?
- What? As if. No one can beat me. You know me longer than her.
- Why are you so sure?
- What?
- You are so easy. - I said, chuckling
- I hate you.
- I love myself, too.
- I hope we can finish the project soon so I can go far away from you.
- You know I can leave you. The problem is that you won't survive.
- Watch me.
- I would love to see it.
- I'm better than the rest.
- No comment. Let's enjoy your mom's food.
- Don't change the topic.
- The same old fight is back. Maybe I should leave you alone.
- What? No.
- Why not? I don't want to argue with you.
- Fine. I won't say anything. Please, stay.
I stayed with her only for an hour. It's enough that I was with her the whole afternoon. I mean, after my class. After dinner, I went home. My parents were watching a movie with Ally. I went to my room and took a shower. My hair is not that big, and I won't dry it. I grabbed my laptop and started searching for movies. I have no idea what I want to watch. Soon, I received a FaceTime call. It's a bit late, but I don't mind. We have a time difference.
- Good evening. - I said
- Hey. How was your day? - Kali asked
- Good. I finished my class and spent the afternoon with one of my friends.
- Was it a girl?
- Does it matter?
- Maybe because you are in a good mood.
- It's not because of her.
- If you say so.
- How was your day? Productive?
- Kind of. I can't write anything. I'm starting to repeat the songs I already have.
- I'm sure you will get better ideas.
- Maybe. I might take a break.
- No shows.
- I mean from the studio. I need fresh ideas.
- Then what will you do?
- I can go on a small vacation.
- Alone?
- Yes. I love my friends, but sometimes, I prefer to be alone.
- What if something happens?
- Something like what?
- A dinosaur eats your head. - I said, and she laughed
- You will be the first one I will call if that happens.
- How? You won't be able to see.
- I will find a way.
- Now, I'm serious.
- I'll be fine. If you want, come with me.
- No, thanks. I have a project to finish. Also, next month my tests will start. Now, it's not the time to travel.
- If I invite you in the future, will you come?
- I don't know. I don't want to start drama.
- No one will know someone is with me. I won't tell anyone.
- You have fans everywhere.
- Relax. Everything is under control.
- Can you say the same about the breakup?
- Um.
- I'm sorry. That was a terrible example.
- No, it's not. Maybe except that.
- Go and have fun. Only be careful.
- Since when have you been caring so much?
- I don't know. Accept that I do.
- Well, thank you.
We talked for a whole two hours. I have no idea what I told her so much. When you enjoy the company, you can spend infinite time together. I'm glad that she feels better now. I'm sure she can find better friends. Also, her dance crew won't leave her alone. I don't know them well. I have heard a lot of good things about them from her. At least she values her friends. Not everyone will do it. Her story is the perfect example of this. For now, we are keeping everything online. I won't go to visit her. First, I don't have time. Second, I can't. I hope that we can keep our good relations.
