Chapter 8 Hunt for my brother.

1647 Words
I guess that I have some help. I move closer the construction site entrance and sit on a bench with my bags, while I kept an eye out for my brother. I have no idea how the ‘others’ are going to find nor how they will inform me of my brother. I guess I will have to wait and see. My mind drifts back to thoughts of Perun. When I was younger, I would have dreams of flying through the clouds and I would see glimpses of a man who was also floating through the clouds. At times, the man would be surrounded by little creatures with tiny little wings that would fly up to him and swirl around him in glee. As I got older, I would sometimes see a dark shadow in a storm that would take on the form of a man. I loved storms as I always feel charged and full of energy during a thunderstorm and after the lightening. I used to play a game of trying to guess where the next lightning bolt would strike, and I was normally over 80% correct in my guesses. The man I would always see looked just like Perun. And over time he had become the one constant in my life. His image would take over my thoughts as I always wondered if he was real or just a product of my imagination. He couldn’t be real as people can’t live in clouds right, or so I had thought. I used to dream of meeting him some day and that we would fall in love and I would fly away with him. Whenever I read a book, the hero would always take on his appearance.   Both Perun and Seb invaded my mind without my permission. I wonder why I feel such distrust and hatred for Seb and why did, do I trust Perun so easily. They both were in the wrong. But Seb tried to push a lie and Perun didn’t I remind myself, could it really be that simple. But if Perun hadn’t seen how angry I got with Seb about lying to me would he have played along with the deception too.   Am I placing my trust in Perun because I have seen his image for years and he has been the hero and star of my dreams for so long or because he deserves my trust? Perun said that he would leave someone to watch over me which does seem to be the case. He wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t worry about me, right? Seb was so angry with me I wonder how much danger I am in from him. I get the feeling that Seb is used to getting his own way. I feel a rumble in the ground as everything around me shakes. What was that? We don’t get earthquakes around here. I could hear men yelling and large things being dropped loudly on the construction site. I jumped to my feet. I hope nobody was hurt. I look around me checking to see if anyone around me needed help. The cars on the road where still moving like normal, the bridge over the river was still standing. I could see a gush of water flow up the river raising its’ level a few feet but not enough to spill over the edges. People on the street were looking shocked and confused, many turning to their mobile phones and other devices to find out what had happened. I could feel the air around me change it became thicker and was swirling around me. I guess my watchers had come to my aid and were forming a protective wall around me. I whispered to my watcher(s) “if I need to move to somewhere to be safe just pull on the string attached to my bag and I will follow in that direction”. I waited and watched but nothing moved so I guessed I was safe where I was for now. One of the men from the construction site come over to me “are you alright miss?” he enquired. “Nothing fell on you, did it?” he asked. I shook my head no. “I’m ok, what was that?” I asked him. “Are you sure none of the falling scaffold got you?” the man asked looking worried. “No, I’m fine” I reply looking at my gear to see why he would be asking so many questions and that’s when I notice a join and some bolts on the ground near where I was sitting “OH, that was close”. “No kidding” he replied in relief “your sure that your ok, really?”. I tried to reassure the man that I was not harmed in any way. He looked relieved once the realization that I wasn’t harmed began to sink in. “Are you waiting for someone or are you homeless?” the man asked me. I couldn’t really lie as I was currently homeless, and I guess when you work in a major city you get used to seeing people living rough. “Yeah, I left home about 2 days ago and came to the city looking for my brother and some work” I told the man. “What’s your brother do?” he asked. “Last I heard he was working in construction doing a large project on this river” I replied. “Do you know what company he works for?” the man asked. I shake my head no. “These jobs can have up to 200 people working on them the chances of anyone here knowing him are slim, but if you knew his company, I could make a call for you” said the man trying to me helpful. A second guy came over to see what was going on and the first man explained the situation to him. The second man asks, “what’s your brother’s name?”. “His name is Cody Moody, he is 6 foot 8 and blocks out a door frame if that helps” I inform them. The second guy gets on his radio “radio 6 general call out, anyone know a Cody Moody, that’s a Moody, Cody. Repeat looking for a Cody Moody. Radio 6 out”. The two men stayed with me as they picked up different items that had fallen off the scaffold and making a pile of them. I decided to give them a hand and dusted off my backpack as well. After about 10 minutes or so a call came back on the radio “ALL SAFE, ALL SAFE. WE ARE ALL CLEAR. Return, back to work. It wasn’t an earthquake just a boulder falling off the coast. Repeat return to work.” Well, that explained what had happened. “Does that sort of thing happen a lot?” I asked. The two men shake their heads no, the older of the two says “last time was about 15 years go I think, these boulders are like the size of a 5 to 10 story building and they fall off the edge of the continental shelf which isn’t to far off the coast, causing a rumble all the way to the nearby mountains. Feels like an earthquake just not as dangerous.” “Radio 6, call back, radio 6 call back” was heard over the radio. “This is Radio 6, ago ahead over” replied the second man. “What’s your location radio 6, over” the radio squawked. “This is radio 6 I am outside site checking scaffold, over” replied the man beside me. Not long after another man walked out of the site and came over. “Why were you calling for Cody Moody? He’s not working this site.” The new man asked. “Because I’m his sister and I am looking for him and this man was kind enough to help me out. Do you know my brother?” I asked trying not to get my hopes up too much. “Yeah, we catch the same train in the morning each day and normally end up in the same carriage” the man responds. “No way! Please do you have his number or anything that would help” I plead. “I don’t have his number, but he is working on the apartment complex being built down river I think he said this morning that they were having problems with the concreting company. I’m sorry but I can’t be more help than that” the man said while shaking his head. “Thanks so much that’s great help” I exclaim “oh, could I give you a note to give to him tomorrow on the train just in case I don’t find him today.” The three guys look at each other and the first two who were helping me tried to encourage this new guy to help me out. I quickly got out a piece of paper and scribbled out a note that I would be waiting for him out front of his construction job first thing in the morning and then I passed the note to the new guy asking him again to please, please give it to Cody tomorrow when he sees him again. I didn’t want anyone to change their minds, so I quickly gathered up my possessions and headed upriver.
