Chapter 1
The moonlight cast twisted shadows across the mansion's walls as Stella Donovan crouched on the third-story windowsill, her heart hammering against her ribs. Behind her, heavy footsteps thundered closer, accompanied by Reid Alucard's drunken laughter—a sound that had haunted her nightmares for months.
"Come back here, little rabbit," his voice slurred through the door. "We just want to play."
Stella's fingers trembled as she gripped the window frame. The drop below looked impossibly far, the trash bags scattered on the ground seeming no bigger than pebbles. But the alternative—staying here with the Alucard brothers—was far worse than any broken bones.
She jumped.
The wind screamed past her ears as she plummeted through the darkness. Time stretched impossibly long, and for a terrifying moment, she wondered if this was how she would die—not from whatever twisted game the brothers had planned, but from her own desperate escape.
She crashed into the pile of garbage bags with a sickening thud that should have shattered every bone in her body. Instead, she bounced off them like they were made of springs, landing gracefully on her feet with only minor scratches.
*That's... impossible.*
A ceramic vase exploded against the ground inches from her head, porcelain shards slicing through the air.
"Get back here, you f*****g b***h!" Mrs. Simone's shrill voice echoed from the window above. "You're fired! Dead! You hear me?"
Stella didn't look back. She ran through the woods surrounding the mansion, branches tearing at her clothes, her mother's silver necklace bouncing against her chest with each frantic step. The forest seemed to whisper around her, shadows moving in ways that defied the wind.
Thirty minutes later, she reached the main road, gasping and soaked in sweat. A taxi's headlights cut through the darkness like salvation.
But as she reached for the door handle, her hand flew to her throat.
Empty.
"No, no, no..." she whispered, frantically patting her neck and chest. The necklace—her mother's last gift, the only clue to her mysterious past—was gone.
The taxi driver honked impatiently. "You getting in or not, lady?"
Stella stared back at the dark forest path leading to the mansion. Every instinct screamed at her to get in the taxi and never look back. But without that necklace, she had nothing. No family, no identity, no hope of ever discovering who she really was.
"Sorry," she said, stepping away from the taxi. "I have to go back."
As the taxi's taillights disappeared into the night, Stella realized she might have just made the worst decision of her life.
The return journey felt endless. The forest grew darker, more alive somehow, with sounds that made her skin crawl. Twice, she could have sworn she saw glowing eyes watching her from between the trees, but when she looked directly, there was nothing there.
By the time she reached the mansion, the moon had turned an unsettling shade of red.
She found the necklace near the trash bags, its silver surface gleaming despite the darkness. The moment her fingers touched it, a jolt of electricity shot through her body, and for just an instant, the world seemed to shimmer around the edges.
"Well, well. Look what came crawling back."
Stella's blood turned to ice. Reid and Desmond Alucard emerged from the shadows like predators who had been patiently waiting for their prey to return to the trap.
"Did you miss us already?" Reid's smile was sharp enough to cut glass. "Or did you just realize you can't survive without us?"
"I just came for my necklace," Stella said, backing away. "I'm leaving now."
"Oh, I don't think so." Desmond cracked his knuckles. "You see, running away from the Alucard family is considered... disrespectful. And disrespect requires punishment."
They circled her like wolves, cutting off every escape route. Reid's eyes glittered with something far worse than mere cruelty—there was hunger there, and anticipation.
"What are you trying to do?" Stella's voice cracked as Desmond grabbed her wrists and slammed her to the ground.
"Relax," Reid said, crouching beside her and trapping her legs. "This will be much more fun if you don't fight."
His hand slid up her thigh.
“Let me go!” she screamed.
“Don’t worry. We will end your misery when we are done,” said Desmond.
“Get off me! Bastards!”
Desmond slapped her across the face. Stella grunted in pain.
Then he grabbed her neck, raised it, and slammed her head against the ground.
Stella's head pounded in pain.
“Who are you calling bastards?!”
Reid grabbed her underwear, ripping it off and exposing her privates. He placed his thumb on it, sliding it a little in.
“Oh, this one’s fresh,” he said to his brother, “Can't wait to devour this one.”
Desmond laughed in response.
Stella struggled against the brothers.
“Help me! Help-“
Desmond slapped her again and then covered her mouth with his hand, preventing her from shouting.
Reid pulled her skirt off, flinging it away. He quickly unbuckled his belt, still trapping her legs between his.
As Reid was about to plunge into her, Stella suddenly felt a surge of energy she had never felt before. She felt her blood boil, and some energy seeped into her veins. She shouted, long fangs appearing in her mouth, her body suddenly becoming very hairy, long nails coming out of her fingers and her body increasing in size. She felt her bones stretch in a painful way, her hands morphing into paws.
The world exploded into silver light.
The necklace around her throat blazed like a star, so bright it turned night into day. Both brothers screamed, throwing their hands over their eyes, but the light seemed to burn through their flesh.
And then Stella felt it—a transformation so violent and overwhelming that she thought she might die from the sheer force of it. Her bones stretched and reformed, her muscles expanded, her senses sharpened to an impossible degree.
Stella looked down at her hands—except they weren't hands anymore. They were claws, covered in silver fur that gleamed in the moonlight.
*What am I?*
A howl echoed from deep within the forest, answered by another, then another. The sound was hauntingly beautiful and utterly terrifying.
And somehow, Stella understood exactly what they were saying:
*Come home, sister. We've been waiting for you.“
