VEYLANA
The pack elders were trying to be discreet in their mistreatment of my brother's mate, but they weren't doing such a good job at it. Telling Zephyr would be their death sentence, so I might as well handle it before things get out of hand.
I walked into her room, which I had set up for her, to see a nurse writing things down without checking her vitals. I watched her in silence as she did a haphazard job, not even checking the dosage of the medication that she was pushing into Athena.
When she turned and saw me, she gasped and dropped everything that she was holding.
“There is only one way your head will remain attached to your shoulders in five minutes. Give me the list of everything that you just injected her with and their dosage. You will do well to tell me the person who authorized you to give the medication as well,” I said to the nurse, who began looking around like someone was going to come to her rescue.
Well, I would love to see them try.
I raised a brow as the shivering nurse now had a defiant expression on her face. What exactly did she think was going to happen here?
"Why should I treat her any better than a prisoner?! She tried to kill our Alpha and should be grateful that she was placed here and not in the deepest part of the dungeon -” that was as much as she got to say before I heard a whooshing sound and the nurse was dangling off the air, her neck held tightly in Zephyr's hand.
My mouth hung in surprise as I did not hear or know when he got here.
" Alpha, please! I beg you!” The nurse managed to squeeze out, but her date was sealed the moment Zephyr's skin made contact with hers. Maybe she was begging for a quick death.
“Please? Be thankful I didn't pull out your spine and insert my hand into your chest cavity!" Zephyr hissed at her. The gruesome image he painted made me slightly nauseous.
He tossed her now retching body towards the door of the hospital room. I watched in horror as her body burns from the inside.
Her blood-curdling screams filled the hospital. And I said hospital because there was no way anyone with functional ears didn't hear her.
I turned to look at Athena. She was fast asleep.
I quickly picked out the sachets of the injections that were administered to her and tried to get the prescription that she used. I needed to ensure that she didn't do anything detrimental to Athena.
Zephyr would go berserk, and that was an outcome that nobody wanted.
"What are you looking for?" Zephyr's voice reached me. He kept his distance as usual.
“I walked into her, pushing different injections into Athena. I was in the process of finding out what she gave her before you came in. Anyway, I think finding the doctor who wrote the prescription would be better. Though I'm pretty sure that she didn't follow the prescription,” I said to Zephyr, whose eyes darkened momentarily, and the pounding of footsteps reached my ears.
The doctors on duty soon barged into the room. I stopped them from stepping over the curse of the nurse. The sight was unsettling to say the least.
"Who is in charge of her case today? I want to see your case notes,” Zephyr said to the men, who exchanged quick looks between themselves.
These men were idiots.
“I am in charge of the patient and I haven't done my rounds yet," one of the doctors said, and I raised a brow.
It was almost noon, and he had yet to see his patient this morning. Then what the hell was that nurse doing earlier?
I noticed Zephyr's countenance change and took a few steps away from the soon-to-be-dead doctors.
“Let me get this straight. My mate was placed under your care, and you didn't see her this morning, and then one of the nurses under your supervision went ahead to give her unprescribed drugs with unknown dosages? Do I have this right?” Zephyr said to the doctor, who looked like he had just swallowed a whole lemon.
"Alpha, I can explain. She was handed to me this morning. I had just come out of surgery, but I told the nurse to continue her current regimen until I could come to her." The doctor rushed to say, but I knew it was an exaggerated story.
He might have had a surgery scheduled, but he took his sweetest time to handle this case, and that was something I was going to lay into him if he survived this talk with my brother.
“If anything happens to her, you will receive training on how to treat the Luna of a pack," Zephyr said to the doctor before going to stand over Athena, who looked more lifeless than she was yesterday.
What exactly did they do to her in that pack? How bad was it?
“You, come with me!" I said to the doctor and walked out of the room.
When I got to the call room, I rounded on the guy.
“Are you freaking serious?! Did you hear yourself earlier? I swear to the goddess that I am going to tell the Alpha what you all are doing. Maybe when your corpse is the next one in the hallway, you will have some sense about doing the job that you are paid for!” I yelled at the guy who was trying to look sorry, but failing woefully at it.
"But it wasn't an emergency, I just got out of surgery. All this fuss about a felon is truly not helping," he went on to say, and the rage I had been suppressing earlier overflowed.
"A felon?! A felon? Did you not swear an oath to do no harm? Where do the clauses come from? You know what? You are all a waste of space and a disgrace to the pack. I'm having her moved away from all of you before you kill her and take away her chance of redemption," I said to him, and stormed out of the room.
I stopped short when I saw Zephyr standing there. He looked totally pissed.
“Move her to your chambers. Everything about her care is under your charge. If anyone does anything to hurt or irritate her, I want that person dead. If they don't respect my authority, then they have no business being under my care," Zephyr said to me, and I gave him a firm nod because I had the exact same thoughts on the matter.
"Then let's move her. You will have to carry her in your arms. This will ease transportation. I'll let you know when I have set up a place for her," I said to Zephyr, who gave me a curt nod before he left.
