CHAPTER 14

GINNY

The pack dinner was a success, and I was having a proud moment. My stupid mistake of a sister thought that she could have all of this.

How pathetic.

“Luna, the meal was simply delicious. The cook says you have a directive as to how they should be plated and served, and I must commend you on how incredible you are, as always,” one of the pack elders said loudly, and I smiled at her.

All of this would not have been possible if I didn't have such a strong support system. They just didn't know that they were led right to it.

"It's nothing, you must all have a good time and that was my priority. If you'd excuse me, I want to check on the other desserts for the evening,” I said to the ladies and bowed before leaving.

These comments flooded in all night, and I felt perfect about it.

Then I spotted one of the guards who helped me do a thing or two to get me here. He signaled that I would come to him. I responded to meet myself on the terrace.

In the privacy of the terrace, I turned to look at him. Naturally, I put some distance between us. I couldn't afford any rumors. After all, Athena was rumored to have been pregnant by a guard.

Brilliant, I know.

“What can I do for you? The last time I checked, we were done with our arrangements," I said to him as I clicked my hair over my shoulders.

“We might have a problem, Luna. We lost Mira in the woods," the guard said to me, and I raised a brow at him.

They did what?

My hand moved before my brain could catch up, and I gave him a loud, resounding slap.

I was breathing hard.

Why were men so incompetent?

“You had one job, one job only! And you lost her? What is she? Some loose change! How do you lose a woman carrying a child and running through the same woods that you have run through all your pathetic life, and you lost her! Can you hear yourself right now?!” I hissed at the guard who was now staring at his feet.

The pack was having a good time, so I doubted anyone was paying attention to the conversation I was currently having out here.

" I don't care how long it takes, but you better sweep the entire forest again until you can bring me her corpse! You know what is at stake here! You can't be this foolish!" I hissed at him before walking away.

As I returned to the party, I forced a smile on everyone.

My father came to my side.

“Tell me, darling, what has upset you?” My father said to me, and I sighed. Daddy always knows how to make things better.

“It's those stupid guards. I asked them to take care of that maid and her son, and he had the nerve to report to me that they had lost her in the woods,” I said to my father, who naturally didn't look pleased.

" These kids! They simply don't know how to get anything done without supervision!” My father hissed under his breath, clearly annoyed. This was why we got along very well. He always understood me and made things work in my favor.

“I know, I slapped him in anger. They better find that b***h, or we would be having some serious problems. We didn't come this far to lose everything,” I said to my father, who nodded his head.

" Yes, they will. I will see to it that it is handled. I want you to focus on running the pack and fulfilling your duties as the Luna. My daughter, the Luna of the Phoenix pack!” My father said to me, his voice full of pride.

I smiled widely at him.

" It's only because of you, father. Any girl would be lucky to have you as a father!” I said to my father, who smiled at me.

When I returned to my chamber, I found a spread already laid out. Alpha Enzo was truly an amazing person. This was one gamble that I didn't regret taking.

I walked into the shower to wash away the stress of the day. These people just knew how to suck the heat out of situations.

Well, daddy has it covered, so I can relax.

I felt Enzo's arms wrap around me, and I sighed in complete bliss. All of this was made even sweeter as I remember that Athena didn't get it.

“You put together a beautiful dinner party tonight. Everyone is raving about how I made the right choice when it came to the Luna of the pack. I think that they are right. Not only are you the prettier sister, but the smarter one. You complete my world,” Enzo said to me. His words went straight to my head, and I smiled widely.

When he took my lips with his, I was more than ready for him, and soon we fell into bed.

It was much later that we remembered that we had food laid out, so we went to eat it.

“That reminds me, the maid who exposed Athena to her deceit hasn't been seen in days. Do you know anything about it?" Enzo asked, and my hackles were immediately raised.

How did he know?

I decided to play it cool.

“Now that you mentioned it, I haven't seen her either. I'll ask around among the other maids. Someone is bound to know something. Besides, why do you want to know? It's not like she is someone important,” I said to Enzo, who nodded his head.

" You're right, but I just haven't seen her, and the people I asked don't know either,” he replied, and I sighed in relief.

"If that is the case, then let's eat and enjoy our night. She can be taken care of in the morning,” I said, caressing his lips.
