CHAPTER 16

VEYLANA I gently moved branches out of my way and kept my footsteps light as I moved through the woods. As much as I wanted to run through it, I felt that combing the woods the way I was currently doing was the best way for the outcome. The pull intensified, and so did the sweet scent. My mind was soon clouded by what I was going to do when I got my hands on whoever had this scent. Waiting for decades for your mate could be quite tasking. I wonder how my brother remained sane. I stopped at a scene that had my blood boiling. There, in a clearing of the woods, was a passed-out wolf. His hair was badly matted, and there were visible cuts on his skin. Like he was dragged through a thorn bush, and his legs looked like he had broken out of a trap. Everything looked painful, and it didn't help that some men were snarling at him. These men were not part of our pack. So they were already trespassing, coupled with what I was going to do to them for hurting my mate. They wouldn't know what hit them. I looked around and found the signal to alert the guards that we had intruders. The mechanism was designed to only be heard by the people that I needed here. “You piece of s**t! How dare you run into the Lycan lands! Did you think we'd be too scared to come and get you?! How the f**k did this loser get out of the shackles?!" One of the men said, and I felt my claws extend. For a moment, I thought he had fallen into one of the traps that were set for hunting, but it was these bastards that did it. I will wring his neck at the appropriate time. The guards had arrived, but I raised a hand to stop them. " Not one of them is allowed to leave this place alive. Form a perimeter and catch every single one of them. The injured wolf is mine!” I said to the guard through the mindlink. They nodded in agreement, and we all crouched down to listen. " I don't know. I do know that I secured it properly. I told you it was a bad idea to feed him that beer, it might have given him a strength boost. Look at how damaged the merchandise is." "Anyway, I believe we have spent too much time here. The Lycan pack is famed for its security. Let's not find out if it is actually true or not,” another one of the intruders said, and I extended my hand to the guards to hand me my whip. “You should have thought about that before crossing our borders," I said in a chilly voice that caught the attention of the intruders. They rose to their feet and picked up their weapons. I kept my eyes on them as the guards secured the perimeter without making their presence known. “Great, we've been spotted thanks to this i***t!" One of the intruders said and kicked my mate in the gut. He will lose that leg today. “Listen lady, we will be on our way as soon as we pick this fucker up. We mean no harm and will be out of your hair before you know it," the one who had spoken first said to me, and I raised a brow at him. “It's funny how you believe that you will be leaving here, especially with him," I said, and gestured towards my mate, who was staring at me through bruised, bloodshot eyes. I was going to enjoy killing these fuckers! “Lady, look around you. Lycan or not, we outnumber you quite easily. So run home to mummy and forget everything that you saw,” my number one target spoke, and I flashed him a smile before flicking my wrist and wrapping the wolfsbane-soaked whip around his neck in a choke hold. He tried to get out of the hold, but I threw him against a tree, knocking him out cold. “Cease them," I said quietly, and the guards grabbed all six of them. I made my way to my mate, who looked like he was one second away from running. Bad idea, darling, my Lycan beast wouldn't like that. “Easy, you came to me for help, remember? I'm not going to hurt you," I said to my mate as I inched forward. His breathing was erratic, so I took my time getting close to him. I ignored the guards as they did what they needed to do with the prisoners. I knelt in front of my mate, dropped my whip, and then touched his head. The tingles ran up my arms like I had touched a naked wire from a generator. Don't ask, we were all stupid teenagers once. “I've found you," I said to him, and just then his eyes rolled inside his head and he passed out. I cradled his head in my lap and wiped the tears that flowed down my cheeks. “Are the medics here yet?" I asked the guard close to me. He shook his head no. “This place is not motorable. With your permission, I would like to help you move him. He doesn't look well," the guard I spoke to said to me, and I nodded my head. Another guard soon approached with some thick branches and a towel. A makeshift stretcher was made, and they gently moved my mate into it. With bated breath, I followed them behind as they carried him through the woods and into the ambulance that was stationed at a distance. I said nothing to anyone as I entered the ambulance after he was placed on the stretcher. By the time we got to the pack hospital, Zephyr was standing outside, and the intruders from earlier were all kneeling in front of him. I said nothing and followed my mate inside the hospital where first aid was being administered. “Veylana, you have to give us some room to take care of him. As soon as we are done, we will call you in,” one of the healers said to me in a voice that conveyed understanding. I nodded my head and forced my feet to leave the room. When I came out and saw that those men were still alive, I shifted into my Lycan form and charged at them. It was Zephyr that stood in front of them to save their lives. " Zephyr, they hurt my mate. Badly! I have to make them feel the pain they caused him!” I said to Zephyr, who gave them a look before looking at me. " Then you should trust that I'll do what I do best,” Zephyr said to me before he took off his gloves and began to create music for my ears.
