Ariel's POV.
Wednesday. Day three of resuming AWA. The annual general assembly will be held for freshers today.
Although I was accepted at the start of the second year, I would still need to attend the general assembly because attendance was mandatory for all students.
The whole academy was abuzz with activities: loud chattering and laughter, new students roaming about curiously, luxurious vehicles pulling up at almost every moment, gray blurs from playful alpha and beta boys dashing around with their wolves, the girls and their cliques whispering about this, gossiping about that, and laughing about those; and of course, the desolate-looking omegas trying their best not to be noticed.
As I walked towards the main school building with my head down, I could hear the comments of other students around me.
"Did you notice that Candy has her hair styled differently today? It's like it's a new style every week!"
"She probably wants to use her looks to charm innocent freshers into mindless followers!"
"f**k Candy! Did you guys see Rylie and Arlo today? OMG, they look so hot and I just want to carry their babies!"
"You're such a simp! I want River! I wanna be dominated."
"Did you guys hear: there's been an increase in omega admissions recently?"
"Really? I actually feel bad for them. They're destined to be used as servants for the rest of their lives!"
"Who cares? I'll just bully someone to do my bidding. If all the popular elites can have an omega lackey, why can't I? It's not like they have a choice or can do anything about it."
I simply walked faster so that I wouldn't be noticed.
The academy was large enough to accommodate all these activities, and more with its vast land space. Just the regular buildings here we're already on par with castles, not to talk of the other numerous facilities. The popular arcade, the gym areas, sporting arenas, an underground dungeon, three small sparkling lakes around the school, and a whole mystifying area covered by dense woods.
Apart from these, outside the academy's boundaries was a forbidden lake - which is home to various beasts, creatures, flora, and mysteries. There was also AWA's rival academy full of vampires - the Sleek Nightwalkers Academy, just a few miles away.
Today's general assembly was to be held in the academy's multipurpose auditorium - a place big enough to put puny human performance centers to shame. Students were already moving into the hall with the freshers eager, and the regulars, disinterested.
There were only a few guys and ladies lurking around with eyes like hawks, surveying the new students and looking for potential followers, flings, and mating partners.
The hall had high ceilings with paintings spanning across most of AWA's history, tall, strong gothic-style pillars and architecture, a spacious audience seating area with crimson velvet-covered seats, and a multipurpose stage for any occasion.
Today, the freshers were given the privilege of sitting at the front and center seats, making them all flushed and excited, while the second to fourth years were to occupy the other seats. There were also teachers, professors, activity supervisors, and high-ranking board members in attendance.
The only pomp that could rival today was the end-of-the-year dinner party - which I hear is at least ten times more flamboyant than this!
The academy's student council body which consists of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Handler, Disciplinary Committee, and the student affairs committee all stood at the back of the stage, and the academy's headmaster stood in front of the podium.
"Hmm hmm!" The headmaster cleared his throat which was a signal for all students to stop their noise. The following silence in the auditorium was so loud and tense, I could clearly hear my own breathing and heartbeat.
The headmaster - Professor Thorne, was a tall, sturdy, and aged alpha of about 70 years of age. His gray facial hair and sleek gray hair speckled with black strands made him look wise, stern, and imposing at the same time. Even under all those layers of academic robes, I could feel his body pulsing with vigor and vitality.
Headmaster Thorne's eyes scanned across the students, and for a brief moment (just so briefly, it was almost imperceptible), I felt his gaze linger on me. He cleared his throat again and started:
"This is the Apex Wolves Academy! And like our name implies, we are at the top of the food chain, the top of society, the cream of the crop among all the supernatural elites around the world. Our history runs deep and wide, and throughout history, we have always been there as the epitome of Lycanthropy.
"Consider yourselves lucky fresh blood; to be given a chance to not just study, but to step foot into this glorious academy. Thousands tried, but only 200 of you were accepted. That should be enough to show you just how talented…or lucky you are to be here.
"I shall not bore you with the long list of rules, regulations, and obligations we follow in AWA - you should all consult your handbooks and homeroom teachers for those. Instead, I want you to engrave these words on your hearts: 'True-born Wolves should sweat and bleed to eventually stand at the top of the world!'..."
And on and on…he droned.
Pretty hypocritical if you ask me - the whole "... sweat and blood…" crap! It's quite obvious that only Alphas, Betas, and pure-blood Lycans are given the golden treatment in the academy. The rest of us might as well just be dirt under the academy's pristine fingernails (or claws).
Contrary to what he said (again!), Headmaster Thorne ended up using almost 30 minutes to preach subtly about how elite and blah blah blah elevated the royals are.
The general assembly ended on a cheery note for the freshers, and the rest of us just wanted to leave to do more important things.
As for me, I had classes to attend. I would also look for a chance to apologize and clear things up with Lynn when I have the chance.
