ARIEL "Your mom works for the Castors?" Dan exclaimed. "Yeah." Sure, the work is at the bottom of the ladder, but as long as it was a secret, I should have been safe. Dan signed and looked at me with pity and resignation in his eyes, "In that case, whatever you do, try not to get in their way. Don't let them notice you at all. Erase your presence because if you don't, and they notice you, well… I sincerely hope you have a nice life afterwards." It can't be that bad, right? Right? "Sure. Thanks for the heads up." I replied. "Well, about your issue with Candy, maybe you should talk to Lynette if she knows something about that. Cuz, we're the only ones you told…and I'm pretty sure I didn't say jackshit." Dan said and I faked a smile. "I have a class soon. Later." Dan said, and walked out of the arcade, leaving me to my thoughts. Amidst the noise and bustle of the vibrant arcade, I stood by myself for a few minutes, realizing that surviving in this academy might be harder that I might have even imagined before. I signed sadly as I recalled the good old times I used to have back in Camders with Daphne and Stacy - my BFFs. Compared to now, I'm stuck in this loveless academy with no friends, no social standing, a bleak future, and the potential to run stark raving mad! I really hope my parents didn't send me up the guillotine just so the family can have a chance at being comfortable later. How could they sacrifice a cute little me just like that? "I can…no, I will do this!" I consoled and steeled myself. "I will find a way to survive." *************** I went to the crowded cafeteria with my home-packed lunch and as usual, I got those disdainful stares from the majority of the students in their cliques and groups present. I advanced and settled down on an empty spot in a more quiet part of the cafeteria where I ate my meal of simple chicken and fries in peace. Dan and Lynn joined me soon after and we all just sat down in awkward silence for the first few seconds. "Sooo….," Lynn broke the silence. I bit the bullet, "Did you reveal my details to 'holy mother queen bee' Candy?" I asked, stabbing my cutlery into the poor fries on my plate for emphasis. "Oh," she faltered for a moment. "About that, I really had no choice." For a second, I really wanted to just forget about it due to the weakness, timidness, and resignation I felt in her voice. "You always have a choice," I pushed. "You could have declined to answer… or something." Lynn's eyes sparkled for a moment there. "You think it's that easy? You think that we Omegas - at the bottom of the ladder, the lowest of the low, and the blights among the elites, are capable of standing up to her? Or to any other royal, for that matter?" Lynn asked, her eyes moistened up a bit as she continued. "This isn't wherever it is that you might have come from so, Omegas here have to kiss the asses of these snobbish, spoilt, and power-blinded royals. I have no plans of being a scapegoat by standing up for a pointless cause. Do you think I wanted this?" She asked, her eyes scanning mine. "No…I guess," I answered silently. "I had no idea it was like this." I lied through my teeth. "Yes, you did. We all know what AWA is like behind all the fancy facades and honeyed words. Just merely seeing me with you was enough to put me in Candy's crosshairs!" Lynn stood up, clearly upset. "I didn't want to, but I had to tell her… or else, my remaining time in this academy could have been pure torture for me. These 'royals' and 'elites' almost always get what they want… one way or another. I have no plans of being a victim!" Saying all these, Lynette spun in her heels and stormed off, leaving a dumbfounded me and an awkward Dan at the table. The lights from the numerous chandeliers reflected off her beautiful honey-blonde hair (which is rare for an Omega), and her figure looked both imposing and lonely and she shuffled away. Dan signed and focused on his meal. I heard him muttering something about why Candy noticed Lynn and not himself - f*****g simp! "You could have handled that differently." Brie - my lil Wolf pup said to me. Not you too Brie! You know nothing about human interactions! Who's on my side now? "Differently, how?" I thought to myself. I was raised to speak up for myself…mostly, so, I didn't see a need to be that soft on her. Dan and Lynn both temporarily avoided me for the rest of the day (I'm pretty sure I heard Dan mutter something about a lady's time of the month when I walked past him once - it's not, okay?). I simply just joined the rest of the Omegas in AWA, doing something that's greatly underrated - going about while blending into the background without being noticed. When I arrived home after the stressful day, I took off my clothes, took a shower, and returned to bed, then it struck me hard. I thought back on what transpired during the day, and although I didn't see what I did wrong, I still felt that I could have actually handled it differently (one point to Brie). I had a group call with the girls; Daphne and Stacy, and they both made me understand that even among werewolves, there are various personalities with different ways of being handled. I just need to be more versatile and flexible with how I interact and respond to others. Some of us really just want honesty, some want to be gently handled, some want to be coaxed, some even require deceit or manipulation, and some only listen to force and violence. I just had to know who falls under what category, and I should be good to go (Wolf-talk 101 according to the girls). Well, whatever. I'll try to make up with Lynn tomorrow. It's all a misunderstanding.
