Though they smiled at each other and said goodbye, Esther just couldn't stop thinking about the
lastest truth she had just heard from her best friend. She kept on wondering what she said was
true or she was just joking or something. She hadn't wanted to believe but she waved the thought
aside.
She put a call through and continued her business.
Mark was beginning to get disturbed by the constant visits he got from the two ladies. He had
wanted to tell his wife. Infact, he had told her already, warning her to steer clear from those two,
especially her so called best friend. She believed him a little concerning Taiwo's matter but
doubted greatly when he accused Esther of such a thing, saying she would never let her down or
attempt to snatch her husband from her
Mark still couldn't get why his wife couldn't sense the danger ahead but he didn't know what to do
He decided to try talking to his wife again when he'd get home that day.
Chat martinmartino on zero seven zero four nine one four nine five two two to join his whatsapp
group or zero eight one eighty thirty fourteen twenty one to be added to his telegram group.
As he was thinking about about all these, he heard a knock on his door.
"Yes come in" he said, expecting his guest.
"Hi mister" Esther said in smiles.
"Hello, how are you doing today" he responded
"I'm very fine" she said as she searched her bag for something
"Here, I want you to see for yourself." She said, handing her phone to him.
"What's inside?" he asked as he received the device from her hand and played the video. He
watched carefully and played it over and over again.
He was shocked, however he held his peace "What is the meaning of this" he asked
"That's your so called wife in her youthful days. Are you away she was more or less a club girl? I
don't really think you Know your wife too well mark" she said in smiles while getting up from her
seat, seductively coming towards him
"Apparently, she isn't a faithful wife, so I don't really see a reason you should be a faithful
husband" she said in whispers since she was close to him already
"Great. Just great" Mark thought to himself, shaking his head as he was think of what next to do.
He flashed back to when he had wanted to marry her by all means but he was rejected by her. He
had always loved her but she told him she wasn't his kind of girl, though she didn't say anything
further.
His mind drove to possible reasons why she'd be a club girl. He know she was from a poor
background as she was more or less the bread winner of her family while her mom was sick due
to high blood pressure as a result of the death of their father and the thought of how to take care of
her children.
"Maybe that's why" he thought to himself
He was snapped out of his thoughts by hands going through his body.
"I believe you know what I want by now right" she said in a low tone, stroking his beards.
"As you can see, I have a lot of documents on my desk that I have to attend to. You may please
leave my office" Mark said politely
Esther smiled to herself
"It's usually normal for men to resist at first. I'll give you time. Just think about my offer. Good day"
she said as she left his office.
Mark is seen with his wife in the bedroom
"Babe" he called as he cuddled her in his arms. She was reading a book but he wanted her
attention
"Yes dear." She replied
" Can you tell me about your past" He asked, a question that made cold chills run down her spine. She sat up to look at him
"I don't understand your question" she said in a low tone, not knowing what to say
"I mean you should enlighten me the more on your past" he said pulling her close
" I just want to confirm something" he said further, stroking her hair so she won't be tensed.
"well... I used to go to club. I do that because of money, just to feed my mom and siblings. I hadn't
intended to but I just had to" she said shortly
"Is that all" her husband innocently asked as her heart raced.
"I think so" she said gently. He kissed her passionately, just for her not to be afraid or worried
about what he asked
"I still love you okay" he said as they disengaged from the kiss.
"Buh honey I want you to be prayerful these days" he added
Kemi knew he had brought up this issue not quite long, she didn't Know why but her instincts tell
her something's up.
"Okay, I will" she responded
"Promise me" he said with smiles, glad that she didn't stress him with arguments this time around
"Yeah sure. Anything to keep my marriage" she replied
Kemi started becoming worried about the way Mark has been emphasizing on prayers these days.
She didn't know what to do. She thought of calling her home to narrate what's up in her home to
her but she remembered there should be no third party in her marriage.
"Oh God, Please help me make the right choice." She said as she was still in deep thoughts. She
decided to take a step. She finally resolved in embarking on a three day fast, to close by 6pm
daily.
Part of her prayers was for God to give her wisdom to manage her home.
On the second day of her fast, she heard a knock on the door. It wasn't Mark because it was still a
bit early. She opened the door to discover it was her mother.
She was surprised and at the same time very Happ, thanking God that she came because she
really came at the right time. Her mom has recovered from her sickness, all thanks to God and
Mark
"Ah mama....I'm so happy you came ma" she said as she offered her mom a seat.
"Yes my daughter, I came to check on you. How are you oko mi" her mom responded "I'm very fine Ma" she said in between smiles
"And how is your husband" she asked further
"He's very fine Ma" she responded, still wondering whether to tell her what was bothering her or
not
"Well, that's good. How's your prayer life." Mama asked
"Fine ma" she responded smiling
"I don't want fine. When last did you fast" Mama asked
"I'm fasting presently Ma, to break by 6pm. This is the second day Ma" Kemi responded
"Oda. That's good. Vigils nko. When last did you observe that one" Mama said. Kemi fell silent as
she couldn't recall when last she observed it. She has been so obsessed with her husband and
showing her bestie all he's been doing for her. The last she could recall was three months ago
"Dakun oko mi, you've not answered my question. Or it doesn't deserve an answer." Mama said,
snapping Kemi out of her thought.
"Ehm... Mama, I can't remember ma" she said, as she couldn't lie to her mom, it'd only worsen the
situation.
"U said wat?....Kemi." Mama exclaimed
"Do you have to wait till trouble cones before you begin to pray, fast and observe vigils? Ehn
Kemi....haa. why are you behaving like this nw. Why you behaving like I never thought you these
things. Have you gotten so obsessed with the fact that you're now married despite your past that
you let your spiritual life grow cold. Kemi!! I'm talking to you" Mama kept lamenting
"I'm sorry Ma" she said
"Sorry for yourself o. So you're just like any other girl. So Mark isn't enjoying the benefit of
marrying a Christain. You're just elany other woman out there that face different kind of challenges
without any help......no no no, Kemi you didn't think well o" Mama said
"Come to think of it...." Mama said further "Why are you fasting, there's fire on the mountain abi."
"Ehm.....I don't know Ma. But my husband said I should fast. I think something's bothering him Ma"
Kemi said, feeling sad."I said it.....and there's no oil in your lamp." Mama said
"Ma?" Kemi said, not understanding what she meant.
"What is Ma?.....there's no oil in your lamp now, there's no past prayers or fasting for you that's
make the job easier. Now you have to start working it out now. I pity you o" Mama said
"Anyway give me food let me eat." Mama said as Kemi got up to prepare something
Mama stayed few minutes more and left, saying she didn't intend sleeping over.
When mama left, Kemi was in very deep thoughts concerning what Mama had said.
She remembered how she said she had wanted to take care of the spiritual environment of her
home as well as their individual spiritual lives. Instead, she spent those times in gisting and
boasting about Mark to Esther
"I've made a mistake" she said amidst thoughts. Then, something just flashed through her mind.
She remembered that even back in those days, Esther had always been the jealous type. She
vividly remembered when a guy asked her out and she was still thinking about his proposal when
Esther snatched him from her
"Wait.....wait o. Is that why Mark is asking me to pray. Was that why he asked about my past. Has
she revealed my secret. Jesus.....I'm in trouble" she exclaimed as she ran into her room to resume
prayers again.
Mark returned home later in the day, very tired and late as his job was time consuming and also
drains his strength in the process. Mark had resolved in his heart to spend a little time with his wife
before he slept, as the temptation he got from the two ladies were becoming overwhelming, that
was why he wanted his wife around him these days just to remind him that his woman is always
available for him and there was no reason looking outside or consenting to their demands.
"Babe, you're late." Kemi said as she welcomed her husband
"Yes and I'm sorry. It wasn't my fault" he said as he forced a smile
"No problem my love, dinner's ready. Let's eat" she said as she helped in removing his suit and
tie.
"You've not eaten?" He asked as he made his way to the dinning room.
"I haven't, I just drank water so I could have enough strength to wait for you. Now come sit let me
serve your meal" she said
Mark watched as Kemi dished his food and sat beside him to feed him a bit before eating.
"Surely, this woman doesn't deserve to be cheated on." He thought to himself.
He kept staring at her as till they finished their meal
He had resolved in his heart to stay with her that night till he fell asleep as he was way tired.
They ate their food in silence. Mark was tired and Kemi hadn't wanted to discuss anything, seeing
he was tired. She silently packed the plates to the kitchen to wash them.
Mark felt she was taking alot of time so he went to look for her.
He found her still washing plates and smiled to himself.
"Hey babe" he whispered as he hugged her from behind. She was startled at first, but smiled later
on to find out it was her husband
"Hey" she replied
"You're taking too long, I want to be with you" he whispered, kissing her ears and neck slowly
"But I'm not done" she protested
"I don't care.....just leave it and let's go upstairs" he said, holding her waist this time. Kemi sensed
what he wanted and smiled to herself "Okay fine, I'm coming." She responded.
"come now. I need you now, the dishes can wait please. Or do you want me to start here?" He
asked, making Kemi to laugh.
"Okay okay.....let's go then" she said as she left what she was doing and followed him to the room.
Mark had wanted to carry her bit he was tired, he only regained some strength after eating...
Although Mark got what he wanted that night, he was still thinking of how to spend quality time
with his wife; he hadn't wanted to lose her, neither had he wanted to look outside. Taiwo had
almost stopped pestering hik but Esther was neck bent on having him to himself
He was still awake and deep in thoughts as Kemi was in his arms, fast asleep. He stared at her a
bit and smiled, kissing her lightly on her forehead.
"I love you dear" he whispered
"I know what to do." He thought to himself.
Mark had gone to work and today was the third day of Kemi's fast. Kemi had given a flimsy excuse
to Esther so she wouldn't visit her for the meantime.
Kemi was very tired as a result of the fast as she had planned to extend this day's own a little from
6pm to 9pm and it was just 5pm
"Jesus....I'm so tired. I didn't think this thing through o" she said as she left the house to her
compound to just look around.
All of a sudden, a tattered man came to her from the gate
"Jesus.....Tunde!!!...Tunde!!!!...Tunde ooo.....olatunde. God, where is this boy" she said as she
kept quiet because strength was oozing out of her
"Ma!!!.... Madam you called me...."
"Yes I did....now can you explain this" She said, pointing to the obviously mad man.
"Madam I no know o""Tunde. I don not have strength so please for God's sake, how did he get into this compound"
"Madam, I went to buy something for myself madam. I no know say e dey follow me. As I wan
close gate, na so e appear com force himself for gate. As I dey look for am from the other side
naso I com hear your voice ma say u dey call me mada" Tunde explained in a sincere Manner
"Water please....I'm thirsty and hungry" the supposed mad man said, while on the floor.
"Water. Okay I'm coming. Tunde, close that gate" Kemi said as she got him water and the food
she was supposed to break her fast with. After eating for sometime, he regained his strength and
began to speak
"Ehe.... thank you for your water. I only asked for water and you add food join. Continue to do
good o, because it will save you one of these days. And, be careful of unfriendly friends." He said
as he carried the bottle of water and found his way out of the compound, leaving Kemi
dumbfounded...
Mark came home a bit early that same day, planning to spend time with his wife. Kemi however,
was still thinking about what had occurred earlier on.
"I'm very sure that wasn't a coincidence" she thought inwardly
Mark noticed she was deep in thoughts and decided to ask what was wrong with her.
"My love, is anything the problem" he questioned
"No I'm fine....it's nothing" Kemi replied
As Kemi had her strengths, she also had her weakness (as she was a human being), one of which
was keeping things from her husband. She always did keep things from Mark and this has
troubled him as he has tried every means possible for her to be free to discuss anything with him. This however, was as a result of the lifestyle she had once lived. She had to keep it a secret from
her mom and siblings as she lied to them about getting a lucrative job.
This had affected her marriage, in a light way though, but is about it's about to be affected in a
mind blowing way.
"Are you sure you're fine?" He asked, knowing the type of lady he wedded.
"Yes I am." She replied shortly
"Well okay. Today's Tuesday right?" he asked, beaming with smiles.
"Yes. Why?" She responded
"Well......I took a three day pass" he said, stroking her hair
"Oh my God....are you sick, it's something wrong with you? You don't feel well?" Kemi kept asking
as she was scared he husband might be sick because she doesn't remember the last time he took
a break from office, if he ever did, it was because of a something serious, eitger he or his wife was
sick or serious family issues.
"No I'm fine. I just want to spend time with you that's all" he said, giving her a peck on her
forehead
"But I'm not sick" she responded
"Baby you don't need to be sick before I show you how much I love you. At least let me appreciate
you now you're fine and healthy. Please babe" he said, his hands on her hair. Kemi smiled at him
and felt so lucky to be his woman
"Now I understand why you are every lady's dream" she said as she hugged him "thank you" she
whispered
"Anything for my woman" he responded.
It was late, past midnight and everyone had gone to bed including Mark and Kemi. Kemi had
resolved to pray that night, as her mom had reminded her of the power of midnight prayer few
days back but things didn't go as planned as she woke up late that night.
Meanwhile, while she was fast asleep, she had a dream that her best friend Esther had told her
boldly that she would snatch Mark from her like she does back then in school. Kemi was surprised
in that dream and asked why she had wanted to do that.
Esther's reply startled her "Do you know I'm single, don't you Know your husband is a good man
and every lady would want him to himself, I have always been searching for the right man and
while you were busy displaying the things he buys for you, telling me how much he loves you, I
decided he is the right man for me. I wonder how he got to marry a foolish last like you, not
knowing that you don't have an iota of wisdom in you"
That was Esther's reply and after that, she woke up.
Kemi woke up and stoop up gently so as not to disturb her husband. She had resolved to pray for
an hour or two that night but after that dream she was going to prayer harder for three hours. If
that was what would save her marriage, it was worth it.
She started her prayers: she prayed concerning the dream, read her Bible, sang praises, prayed
again and it went on like that till she felt satisfied. By the time she was done with her prayers, it
was already 5am in the morning and Mark had told her they were leaving that same day as he
said he had wanted to spend time with her without a third party and since Taiwo was still at home,
they would lodge in a hotel or guest house so as to concentrate fully on her.
"My love I hope you're not forgetting anything." Mark asked as they were about leaving
"No I'm not. I'm set to go" she responded, taking the boxes downstairs where Taiwo met them and
was confused.
"Is someone packing out or leaving the house for me? Or have I now become a burden to you? If
I've become a burden, please tell me, I could lodge in a hotel or something. I'm no longer
stranded" she said innocently. This shocked Kemi to the core as she was dumbfounded..
"Are you the one saying this?" Mark asked surprisingly.
Taiwo gave a beautiful smile and said "I know you might be surprised because of the way I acted
when I first came, the truth is I was really jealous of the fact that Mark had gotten married and he
didn't inform me and I got to know myself. I narrated my dissatisfaction and sadness to my twin
sister and she warned me sternly to leave you alone. She reminded of the man over there seeking
my hand in marriage and not to let my jealousy and so called hurt get the best of me" she said as
she stared at me and smiled.
"Hmmm...thank God. At least you'd stop disturbing me right" Mark said, feeling relieved already.
"Of course and I apologise for the inconveniences. Mark can you give me a minute with your wife.
I want to apologise to her as well, she's the one I wronged the most" Taiwo said as Mark agreed leave them and wait for Kemi in the car.
Kemi on the other hand didn't know what he meant by saying "at least you'd stop disturbing me"
When Mark left the dup, Taiwo walked closer to her with a smile on her face.
"I'm so sorry for everything." She said calmly
"It's fine." Kemi replied
"However, I want to warn you of one thing. Stop keeping secrets from your husband. He is your
husband and you are one. Remember the secret you had told Esther about a week ago? That you
couldn't carry Mark's child? I heard it too. It happened I was eavesdropping on your conversation.
So it's no longer a secret. Esther your friend has come to me to help her smtake Mark away from
you and let me warn that she's ready to accomplish that goal by all means, no matter what it takes
and I guess she'd start by revealing your secret to him so you have to be careful. I don't really
understand why you'd be scared to tell him anything. The Mark I know is one of a kind. He doesn't
flare up at any little instance and tries as much as possible to be understanding no matter how
hard the situation might be. I'm no longer in agreement with her to take Mark from you but that
doesn't mean she's giving up. I guess you have to go now. Your husband is waiting" she said as
she sensed Mark's presence from a distance.
Kemi nodded and the duo went to meet mark where he was
"I'd leave immediately you return. Enjoy your honeymoon season 2" she said as she laughed and
waved goodbye
Kemi was still in deep thoughts on what Taiwo had told her. Her husband noticed this and held her
hands.
"I'd explain everything when we get there" he said as she let out a smile
She knew he was talking about the "disturbance" Taiwo gave him that she didn't know of but that
was not was what bothering her
Just then, she recalled that last night, she prayed a prayer points, saying that her enemies should
lose the support of other enemies.
At about the same time, she also recalled that she had glanced through a scripture in Proverbs
when she was reading her Bible..
"When a man's ways pleases the Lord, He maketh his enemies be at peace with him"
It was then she realized what was going on...."Answered prayers" she thought to herself as she smiled.
She then resolved in her heart there and then to extend the fast to seven days, meaning four more
days of fasting as she was already seeing the results gradually. The couple arrived safely at the hotel and were warmly welcomed
Kemi looked around, admiring the hotel.
"This place looks expensive" she said, as they checked in
"Lord, women and complaints" he mumbled
"Baby money isn't the problem, so just relax let me spoil you a little okay" he said as he gave her a
peck
"Okay then, let me order for something" she responded with smiles
"I'm not hungry and you're not hungry as well. You're even fasting so who's eat the food." He
asked
"Well, I want to take a quick shower, should we take it together?" He said further, getting up
"No go ahead, I'd bathe later" she said.
She was so glad her prayers had been answered. She has always loved prayers ever since she's
been serious with her Christain life and with the help of her mom who'd always wake her up in the
middle of the night to pray, she's doing great in managing her home spiritually.
She was marvelled at the outcome of her fasting and prayers and had wondered why she didn't
take it serious since she married, she imagined the blessings and privileges she had missed as result of her carelessness with fasting and prayers.
Maybe if she was prayers back then, she would've been told in her dreams that Esther was up to
know good, and if she had started praying by then, everything would be settled by now
"There's no oil in my lamp, so I have to work for it" she thought to herself, covering her face with
her palm.
She remembered when she was single and Mark was pestering her to marry him, stating she was
his dream come true. She began praying about it with her mother and during that period, her mom
always lectured her on how to be a good wife.
Flashback
"Oko mi ......you know you're the firstborn and your siblings would follow your paths abi" Mama
said
"Yes ma" Kemi responded
"Oda (good)....behave well in your husband's house, be a good wife o. Make sure your husband
enjoys the privileges of marrying a prayerful woman oo. You know Proverbs says he that findeth a
wife findeth a food good thing and hath obtained favour from God. Dakun omo mi, let favour
overflow in that man's life. He found you so he should have and enjoy the blessings of finding you.
Abi you're the one that asked him to marry you ni" Mama asked to be sure before u go further
"God forbid Mama. It's an abomination" Kemi replied.
"Very good. So let him enjoy uninterrupted favour. S'oro mi ye e o (do u understand?)" Mama said,
drawing her eyes in emphasis
"Yes Ma, I understand" Kemi said as she nodded
"Ehe oko mi. One more thing. No third party o. No bestie o. After Marriage, even your best friend
becomes a stranger o. Including Esther o" She said, enlongating the "o"
"Yes ma. Motigbo ma" Kemi responded
"Ehe....oya let us pray" Mama said as she extended her hands to hold Kemi's in prayer
Flashback ended
"Ahh....I've made a mistake, and I was warned o. But wait, how did I forget to pray and get so
obsessed with the fact that I was married. Why didn't I see anything wrong with Taiwo coming to
live with us. And why didn't I see the fact that Esther could become jealous. Jesus, my eyes areclearing now o. Abi, I was Bewitched ni? Was I blinded to see app these things? What Happened
to my spirit and instincts then. Haa, this is deeper than I thought and I must get to the root of this.
Mark is my husband, I didn't snatch him from anyone so nobody, not even a principality,
personality or power, is going to snatch him from me" she concluded in her thoughts as Mark got
out the bathroom.
"Babe, oya go bath and come meet me here, we have alot to discuss but I want to spend some
time on you and spoil you first." He said as he pecked her forehead to which she smiled and
replied with a nod.
While taking her bathe, her thoughts was at it again, going through so many things and flashing
back at important things. She then remembered speedily what Taiwo said before leaving.
"Stop keeping secrets from your husband" she muttered to herself, remembering the words as she
flashed back to the secret she was keeping
"But how do I tell him? What would he think of me?" She asked inwardly. Within a split second, her
thoughts went back to what Taiwo said
"Mogbe " She exclaimed inwardly as she remembered Taiwo telling her that Esther was neck bent
on taking Mark away from her by all means
"Ahh Lord, help me" she said as she tied her towel to meet her husband who was patiently waiting
for her.
"Hey there" Mark said with a smirk on his face. Kemi got the sign and laughed
"Don't tell me you were peeping....gosh" she said as she lightly hit her head
"Don't you ever respect privacy?" She asked as she dressed up
"I do, but not when I've paid for it." He said whispering as their bodies touched.
Kemi smiled to herself
"Well, at least you'd let me wear something" she whispered in response
"Come on, don't spoil the moment" he grumbled, pulling her closer
"Just lemme wear something" she replied and Mark raised his hands up in surrender
"Your choice" he said as he went back to bed, watching her
Kemi searched her box to look for her clothes but found none.
