Sonny's p.o.v
"Have you tried her cell phone?" I asked Dorcus in a low tone.
"Yes sir. I have been trying for hours." She answered Seriously.
"Fuck." I spat.
For hours I tried keeping mother from asking questions about where she was. But I wasn't going to hold her off for long. It was late in the evening and she wasn't home yet.
"Sir what should I do?. I already set the dinner table. And Mrs Andrews is waiting for you downstairs." She said softly.
"It's fine Dorcus. I'll go and eat with mother downstairs. You keep on trying her cell phone please." I whispered then went downstairs and into the dining room.
Mother looked at me for a second then gestured me to sit down with her hand.
"Thanks," I whispered as I sat next to her with a nervous chuckle.
"I looked forward to having coffee together, but now we are even having supper. It makes me so happy." She said with a smile.
"I wonder why you lied about business Hayley." I said in a low tone.
She glared at me then filled my plate with food.
"Honey don't blame me. I needed an excuse to come and see you. Ever since you got married, I have not visited your house." She said as she looked at the clock on the wall.
"Well, your excuse worked perfectly fine." I teased.
"I know." She answered with a smile.
"How is work going?" She asked softly.
The whole afternoon I let her talk about her clothing line she was working on. And how father was busy with his invested tennis club.
"It's super exhausting and tiring." I answered honestly.
"Well that's how it is. But never slack off, always lead by example son." she said as I smiled.
"I won't argue with you woman, you always win." I said then picked up my fork and shoved it into the food.
I was upset with myself for being too soft on her. If I was strict, she wouldn't have been so disrespectful.
"Son, isn't it a bit late?. Where is Martha?" She asked.
I paused before putting the folk down
"Well...work." I lied.
"Shouldn't she have called when she knew she was running a bit late?" She asked.
"Maybe her phone battery has drained or ....."
"Can you stop covering for her, look at you Sonny. She has gotten you under her control and you are okay with it!. I raised my son better." She said seriously.
"Mother enough about her." I pleaded.
"No! She has ..."
"Enough mother!" I exclaimed.
She widened her eyes and dropped her falk in shock.
It was the first time in a long time that I was raising my voice on her.
"I have lost my appetite." I whispered then stood up.
"Speak of the devil." She said while gazing behind me.
I quickly turned and came face to face with Martha.
"So, is she the so-called Martha?" Mother asked in a cold tone.
I was about to answer when Martha moved closer and stood next to me.
"Oh hello Mrs...... what was her name again?" She asked as mother gave out a laugh of disbelief.
I too was so shocked at her disrespect. She f*****g knew my name and surname, so there was no excuse for her dumb play.
"You don't even know your husband's last name. Do you?" Mother asked while standing up.
"Well, I'm sorry Mrs. I work too much that I almost forgot my own name as well." She answered.
I brushed my hand through my hair to calm myself down. I wasn't going to show her my bad side. She was my wife.
"Almost isn't always." Mother spat.
"Oh really I....."
"Shut the f**k up!" I yelled at her. She gasped then looked at me in shock.
I was always so good to her and gave her everything. But she made it so hard for me everyday that I was beginning to think of her as my regret.
"Now Martha, listen. And listen well. This woman standing in front of us is my f*****g mother. You don't get to answer her rudely or even dare to show her arrogance. You are to give respect at all times, am I clear?" I asked seriously.
"You are not the boss of me." She answered.
I clenched my hands in fists and swallowed hard. She really was making me lose myself.
"The hell he is darling. He is your husband." Mother said on top of her voice.
"Mother......" I warned.
I didn't want them to argue. As it was, my reason was hanging by a thread.
"I see, I'm not welcomed here. I will book a room at the hotel." Mother said angrily.
"Nonsense, mother this is my house. You are more than welcome to visit or sleep here." I answered loudly.
"I think she should leave." Martha said with a smirk.
I angrily grabbed her hand and dragged her upstairs while she struggled to be set free.
"Dorcus!. Dorcus!." I called on top of my voice while I opened the bedroom door and pushed Martha in without a care. She stumbled and fell to her knees.
"Yes sir," Dorcus answered while she ran upstairs.
"Take my mother to one of the best spare bedrooms. Make sure she is comfortable. I'll see her in a few minutes." I ordered when she came close to me.
"Right away sir." She answered my the rushed downstairs.
I faced Martha with a cold glare. Who was on the ground gazing at me in shock.
"What the f**k is wrong with you?. She is my mother!" I yelled.
"Who has no respect for me. Sonny let me make it clear, I will make your life a living hell because I want my son!" She screamed on top of her voice.
I laughed softly in anger then moved closer and knelt beside her.
"And let me make myself clear as well. You will never, ever, see your son if you continue acting this stupid." I whispered with emphasis.
Her eyes were instantly filled with tears and my heart ached at how sad she looked.
"I can just call the cops and report you for k********g him." She said stupidly.
"Are you that stupid?. What are you going to tell them?. Oh, officer some guy I happen to marry has my son who I put up for adoption right after his birth. Or maybe, officer, after years of thinking that my son was dead, I found out he is alive, I just don't know how he looks like or where he is. How stupid can you be you dumb bitch." I asked furiously.
She sniffed as tears rolled on her cheeks.
My hands were aching to wipe them off. But I just couldn't do it.
"Just shut up Sonny, and for the record, I don't trust you." She said with tears.
"Oh really?. Then why did you agree to this marriage and its terms and conditions?." I asked seriously.
When she didn't respond I continued.
"Because deep down your rotten heart, you know that your son is in good hands right?." I asked then stood up with a sigh.
"Now just to make myself clear again. if you ever get me this upset Martha. You will never, ever see your son and that's a promise. You know that I can play the good guy and bad guy when I want to." I said seriously.
She slowly stood up and moved closer. I frowned as I watched her hold my hand in hers.
"I...I am so sorry Sonny. I was stressed out. I already told you that I have a small business I handle. Before you even came into my life it was my everything. But for the past few weeks, it's been going badly." She said softly.
"Didn't I ask you to quit?" I asked coldly.
"I can't quit. It's the one thing I can't easily give up. I'm sorry." She answered softly.
"Whatever. I'm going to bed." I said then pulled my hand away.
She glared at me then smiled. I could see it all in her eyes. She clearly was silently saying.
"I will make you pay Sonny."
