Jane's POV "Hi there, please I need to get some iron supplements, I've been feeling weak occasionally recently which is weird," I inquired from the attendant at the local pharmacy here. As he looked up to answer me, our eyes jammed for a bit before he responded, he stood tall, his broad shoulder carrying an effortless strength that drew every eye. "Hello beautiful, nice having you here. I haven't seen you around before, are you new here?" He asked as he rubbed his chin mildly with his left hand, his smile lingering just a little too long. My cheek turned red and I gave a brief smile, "is this how you welcome every lady to your store?" "Oh no, just the pretty ones like yourself, you feel me?" He winked at me and gave a broad smile, I couldn't help but blush, it's been awhile someone has been this nice to me. "Oh please, I'm sure you'll be less interested in flirting with me in no time," I rolled my eyes and held myself from smiling, I just couldn't help it, he was just so charming. "What do mean by that? I'm a gentleman, that you can be sure of," "Please can I get my supplements, I don't really has a prescription, just give me something strong." "How strong are we talking about here?" He asked, "Something for a 4-month nursing mother," I replied and noticed his expression closed up, "Oh my, how come I didn't notice that, I actually flirted cause there's no ring on your finger. Anyway, I hope your hubby doesn't attack me after work," he gave a genuine smile as we both laughed about it. "Trust me, this child here doesn't have a father, but that's by the way, what do you recommend?" "Oh really! he sighed, that's a relief then," he smiled at me, he was just too caring and funny at the same time, "Anyway, I know just the right prescription for you, give me a minute please," He went to the shelf himself to get he the medications which was strange. I thought to myself, 'it's possible they have a very good customer service or he is just trying to be nice.' Wooden shelves lined the walls from end to end, neatly stacked with medicines. Bright boxes of paracetamol and cough syrups stood in rows, their label facing forward, while bottles of multivitamins and jars of prenatal vitamins were arranged carefully beside tins of milk and baby lotions. He picked some prenatal medicines and then headed towards the lower shelf, packets of glucose and iron tablets sat within easy reach, their bright wrappers adding splashes of color to the room. As he returned back, he greeted customers with a smile as if he already knew what they had come for, he seemed like a very cheerful person. He then came back behind the counter to attend to me. "Here are the drugs, I labeled the prescription at the back." "Thank you very much, and the bills?" I asked, "It's on the house," He grinned and gave a broad smile as he spoke "Oh no, I can't take that from you, I can pay for my own bills, besides, what's your boss going to say when he finds out? "What if I'm the boss here, or don't I look like one? He gave me a playful wink, the grin on his face daring me to respond. I couldn't tell if he was serious or was joking, he seemed like the kind of person that jokes a lot. "Okay boss, if you insist," I smiled and headed outside. "I didn't get a name," I heard this few seconds after I stepped out, "You again? in case you didn't hear me well earlier, I said I have a baby inside me," I rubbed my stomach lightly as I spoke. "I'm pretty sure I heard you, but I don't see any wedding ring on your hands either," he responded. "Hmmm, okay I won't lie, you got me right there. Anyway, I'm Jane, and you are?" "You can call me Rex, nice meeting you Jane. Do you stay around? I'm always here in case you need a shoulder to rest on," he placed his hands on my shoulder and we both laughed out loud. "Don't be silly Rex, and yeah, I stay around. I guess we'll see around then, have a great day," I waved at him with a large smile on my face as we departed. I haven't been this happy since I was abandoned by my father, it's been 2 months now. I was sent to stay with my Aunt at Adams County, a remote area in Ohio. Things haven't been easy since I got here, she's a nurse and rarely stays home so I'm always on my own most of the time. Although, my father thought he cut all connections from me, but my grandma still found a way of reaching me regardless. She's the only one that reaches out ever since I left. Not long after I got home, I heard a knock on the door, I wasn't expecting anyone and it couldn't have been my aunt, she would still be at work by this time. "Who is that? I asked but didn't get any reply, so I moved towards the door to get a better look at who was knocking. I tried looking through the door hole but couldn't get a clear view of the person at the door so I ahead to open it. "Grandma, is this really you?" I shouted at the top of her voice, I was so excited to meet her. "You always promised you were going to come check in on me but I never thought it was going to be this soon," tears of joy spilled down my cheeks, I couldn't contain the excitement. "I'm so sorry it even took this long for me to get here, I had to persuade your father on several occasions that I needed a vacation before he finally let me out, he doesn't know I'm here so let's keep this between us." She responded "Is he still mad at me? Who would have thought he would ever get angry at me this much? I used to be his favorite person in the world even before my mother passed on," sorrow weighed on me as I spoke, "Don't get too worried about your father, he'll come along with time. Besides, how have you been? I'm here now so tell me every single details about your life ever since you left Beverly Hills." "Ever since I was chased out, you mean? I sighed as my face fell, my smile faded quite too soon. "I've been all by myself, no one to talk to, I've lost count of the number of times I cried my eyes out, I've had sleepless nights countless times. Although, aunt has been good to me, but she barely has my time, it's understandable because of the nature of her job." I poured out my heart, undiluted and heavy with emotion, I haven't had the chance to talk to anyone concerning my current state so this was an avenue for that. "Trust me, I know it would have been so hard. Understanding your body changes will be all new to you," she added "My point exactly, sometimes I regret keeping the pregnancy. Several times, I try to think of who the father will likely be but the details are all scrambled in my brain, can't remember. But I'm quite certain Sonia will definitely know something concerning this, she gave me the drink that made me pass out and whenever I confront her concerning it, she denies she never drugged me. I'm positive the truth is going to come out one day and I will see to that, I won't rest until that happens. "I'm so sorry all this is happening to you my child, please be strong for your child, and I'll also make sure I assist you in any way I can till we reveal the whole truth concerning this matter." Her words lifted me, and hope was stirred inside me again. Grandma surely knows her way with words just like my mother, it's a special gift. "Thanks Grandma for always being there for me, how's everyone at Beverly Hills by the way? You won't believe Sonia hasn't reached out to me at all ever since I got here, I see she has finally gotten what she has always wanted. Her mother never liked me for once, both of them are always jealous of the special attention I got from dad but I guess they've succeeded in taking that away." My eyes lowered as I spoke, by voice burdened by the weight of my mistake. "But one thing is for sure, I'll never accept defeat. I'll make sure I get back to them for all the pains they caused me, I don't know when or how yet, but I know I'm going to do that someday," my voice carried strength, leaving no room for doubt. "By the way, have you heard anything from James? Would you believe he never for once called to check in on me. Although, I don't blame him, no one wants to carry a burden that isn't theirs." My face closed up as I spoke. Grandma remained silent when I spoke about him like she knew nothing about him, she smiled suspiciously! I refused to push it since it felt like she doesn't wanna talk about him. "Anyway, are you currently seeing someone? Has any lucky man approached my beautiful angel yet? A wide grin spread across her lips as she winked at me, "Not really grandma, that's the least of my concerns right now. Besides, who would want to approach a young, pregnant lady? I lowered my gaze as I spoke, my cheeks warming with shyness. "Oh my beautiful angel, stop with the low esteem, I'm sure men will find you even more attractive now that you're pregnant," she teased me as we both laughed out loud, "Actually there might be someone, but it's nothing serious, trust me." I said "Now you're talking, I'm positive he's a fine young man. Where did you meet, how did you meet? Give me the full gist please," "Oh yes, he's actually so fine and tall, that's all I can say Grandma, let's save the whole gist for another day," I replied, "C'mon, don't be a boring person," she pulled me over to herself and tickled me, trying to get me to talk but I still didn't, we laughed and laughed till I heard a knock on the door, "That's probably my aunt, she would be so excited to see you," I said as I went ahead to open the the door. My heart began racing as soon as I opened the door, "what on earth are you doing here?" Color drained from my face, my breath caught in disbelief.
