James POV "I was at the party and I saw Jane and Sonia when they entered, that was very much it, I searched for them later but couldn't find them anywhere downstairs. I assumed they went back home after searching for almost an hour. Trust me sir, I had nothing to do with all that happened." Mr Philip was so interested in finding out who was responsible for this. Knowing fully well that I was the closest to his daughter, he summoned me first. "I thought you were friends, friends always look out for each other, why weren't you curious when you realized you didn't see her a very long time at the party? You know how much I care for my daughter and still you left her all by herself," he spoke without pause, his voice rising with every sentence. "I'm sorry this happened sir, but this was a party and there was little I could do. Besides I realized she was having fun with Sonia and her other friends the last time I saw her." I looked him in the eyes as I spoke, it was obvious he was looking for who to blame but I wasn't ready to be the scapegoat. "Trust me sir, I'm the last person that will ever wish this happened to her, it hurt me to my bones that she got pregnant for another man," I had to add that to try to calm him down because I noticed how infuriated he was. I can't even bare to look Jane in the eye, I feel betrayed by this, she knows fully well how much I love and she still went on making out with someone else. "I really can't blame you though, you of all people know so well not to even toy with my daughter in the first place. You are also like a son to me, so it couldn't have been you or any of your friends. But in case you find out whoever did this, I need you to report to me immediately. I heard many of my staffs attended the party and so it's definitely one of them that's behind this, I need you to get to the bottom of this. "Mr Philip said, "Definitely sir, you'll be the very first person to know if there's any update concerning this. Will that be all sir?" "I need one more thing before you leave, I need you to go drop Jane off at the airport, she's taking the next available flight and leaving here and soon as possible," "Oh, I'm sorry to interfere sir, but is it really a good idea sending her away and leaving her all by herself now?" I chewed on my bottom lip as I spoke. "No one is going to tell me what to do, I've made my decision and that's final, you can go in and check in on her, it's probably the last time you are going to see her." Color drained out of his face as he spoke. I was uninterested in checking in on her, I just had to do because I was told to. Jane was my all time crush but now that she broke my heart, I can't even bare to look at her, I'm as pissed as Mr Philip. As I approached the door, she opened immediately like she was expecting me there. Shoes were scattered across the room, some upright, others lying on their sides. The bed was unmade, sheets twisted and pillows tossed carelessly aside. "I really don't have much to say to you right now," my expression hardened as I spoke, her presence alone stirred an annoyance I couldn't shake. "Even if no one believes me, I really need you to. I was drugged, I don't know who did but it was. I sincerely thought you were the one I met upstairs that's why I didn't fight it when he came up on me, I was so tipsy and my vision was blurry that's why I didn't notice, I'm truly sorry." It felt like all she said entered the left ear and went through the right, it all sounded like lies to me. "How would you sleep with someone and assume it was me? You need to think well before you cook up these lies," "Anyways, I have nothing to say to you anymore, the deed has been done. I'm only here because your dad asked me to drop you off at the airport. You need to hurry up with your load, I have better things to do with my time," her face was the last thing I wanted to see at that moment. "Why are you being rude to me? Just this little mistake and you're showing me this side of you. Is this who you truly are?" I stuck my nose in the air as she spoke, I wasn't interested in falling for those crocodile tears. "Little mistake you say? Okay then, see where the mistake has landed you. Maybe this is what you get for turning me down on several occasions." I gave a large grin as I spoke to her, mocking her with a crooked smile. She sat helplessly on the floor, with the clothes scattered around her, her hair was all scattered and I almost couldn't recognize her. Someone who used to be stunning suddenly became this unattractive. Well, that's none of my business anymore, it's all on her now. "If you won't help me pack up, will you excuse me then?" "I'll gladly excuse myself, I'll be in the living room when your done. And please, don't stall, the plane leaves in a few hours and like I said, I have other things to attend to." Just as I was about leaving, her grandmother entered the room to check on her, She also overheard us and insisted that I wait behind. She held my hands, stared into my eyes straight for a minute which made me uncomfortable. There was an awkward silence in the room for few seconds, then she threw my hands away and took a heavy shuddering breath down her throat. "Can't you see she's going through a lot? I know you're hurt this happened but you don't need to be a d**k about it," she said. I stood right at her front, refusing to say a word even if I had a lot to say. I wouldn't want to speak rudely to an old woman so I kept my cool. I immediately sighted a blue rickety chair and went to sit on it to avoid the long talks, besides, I also respond to some pending work mails. She walked towards Jane, grabbed her hands gently as tears dripped from both their eyes. "I'm so sorry there isn't much I can do about this at the moment, I have pleaded with your father over and over again but he seems to stand on his decision, I wonder what kind of son I raised that can do this to his only child," she said "I'm truly sorry I had to put you in this situation grandmother, the baby has grown in my stomach and so its past contraceptive period. I know this might sounds unreasonable knowing fully well I have no idea who the father of the child is, but I don't think I want to get rid of the baby even if it was possible. It's been 9 weeks and I can already feel a living soul in my body, if feels so wrong aborting, so I'm going to keep the child." Jane said "Waoh, you have the heart of your late mother, even when all odds are against you, you are still willing to protect the real reason you're in this mess. That's the best thing to do and I'm also in support of that, I'll make sure I support you in every area you need my help, I can assure you that you aren't alone in this," she gave her a gentle pat on the back, easing the tension inside her. "I'm sorry to interrupt this beautiful moment but we have a flight to catch," I had to jump in there because hearing all that was giving he headaches already. "If you are such in a hurry, why now assist in packing up rather than just ranting on your seat there, at least be helpful in any way you can," Anita, the grandma said "Oh please, I'm very fine where I am, in fact, I think I'll be better if I leave just the both of you here, I'm sick of hearing all these cries. My tone was rough, stripped of patience cause I couldn't bare it any longer. I won't lie, I'm truly in love with Jane, by my ego won't allow me do such anymore after this experience. I can't even look her straight in the eye anymore, all of a sudden, she become unbearable and all I could think of was to abuse her endlessly, I guess that's the rage in me talking. "Time to leave, I don't care if you're done packing or not, I'm going to make sure you don't miss this next available flight," Mr Philip barged in in the process and hurried them up. "Where exactly are you taking her to? Grandma asked "That's no one's business, I'm taking her far away from here where no one knows the family name, I can't afford her to stain this prestige family name with a bastard child, it's best I send her away since she has refused to get rid of the baby and also refused to tell us who the father of the child is." "If you still insist on sending your only biological child away, then I'm going with her, I can't leave her all alone by herself," Anita said "No one knows where she goes, no one is permitted to visit her and my decision is final. So do with it, whatever you want but I can assure you that you aren't leaving this house," Mr Philip's words stood firm, leaving no room for argument. I sent for the remaining workers and they assisted in carrying her bags to the SUV. And in about 30 mins, we were on our way to the airport, I was ordered to drop her off and return back home. Jane broke my trust, disappointed her father and now, seems she's all on her own. It was a silent drive down to the airport, no one said anything, she couldn't even look me in the eyes. The road stretched wide and empty, lined with tall trees whose leaves rustled gently in the evening breeze. As we approached the airport, bright light spilled across the wide entrance and we could see travelers hurry up with rolling luggage and tired faces. Just as I was contemplating whether to follow her to go check in or just drive off, she insisted I hand over her papers. Just as I was handing it over to her, a paper fell off, it contained the location and address she was heading to. We both bent to pick it up but I saw a part of the address before handing it over to her, I couldn't believe my eyes, why would he send her there of all places?
