Damascus arrived home, dropped her bag on the floor, closing the door behind her. She leant against it, closed her eyes, let the air escape between her teeth in a gentle hiss.

What a day it had been. Started off in prison, continued in a hearing, ending up with a promotion back to captain and given her own company.
She hoped she wasn’t going to disappoint Dave Anthony or anyone else. He had put his neck right on the line by recommending her for the promotion when she had been demoted less than two months earlier. From captain to second lieutenant. From second lieutenant back to captain.
