Damascus closed and locked the door behind herself, staggered to the bed, and flopped onto it. She wasn’t just tired; she was monumentally exhausted, physically and mentally strung out. She still had work to do, though. People to see, things to organise.
The helicopter flight had been hell. The pilot had seemingly flown directly through the middle of one of the biggest storms ever, and the tiny craft had just been battered one way, then the other. It was as much as she could do to sit in her seat, strapped in tight, her eyes clamped shut, praying as hard as she could.
She had never been much of one for prayer.
