Chapter one
i would not wish any companion in the world but you. Katherine White was completely bored, and when it came to the party side of being in a sorority she was just not interested. She really wasn't too keen on the idea of joining the Alpha Omegas. But, of course, it was something that her mother wanted since almost twenty years ago she graduated as an Alpha Omega. And telling her mother that being in a sorority wasn't for her, well. Well, that was like telling her that she had decided to join a g**g. Unlike her mother, Katherine's father was more understanding but, after twenty-one years of marriage tells you anything, just let those tiny things go. That's how Katherine White was stuck at some frat party, required by her sorority sisters, and her poor attempts to avoid Clark Wilson. Like her sorority sisters, Katherine was beautiful, a splitting image of her mother. Her skin was always clear, not an impurity on her olive skin tone passed down from her Native American ancestors, or perhaps it was from the insane amount of skin care drilled in her head by her mother since childhood that had something to do with it. Her bronze hair had natural waves that made some of her peers jealous, although when her mother finds out she cut her hair just above her shoulder she can say goodbye to her credit card, her espresso-colored eyes framed with dark long eyelashes, her plump lips a natural cherry red. She, unlike her mother, wasn't very tall and only stood at the normal height of 5'4", something that caused her mother to change her life plans. No swimsuit modeling career for this girl, not that Katherine even cared. No, Katherine had one career in mind: she wanted to be a teacher. Her mother protested, naturally, but her father was beaming with pride when she told them last Christmas. Even though Katherine could care less about the beauty she was blessed by her mother's good genes, Katherine happened to be Clark's taste and he was hellbent on making her his. Last fall, when Katherine first came to university, she met Clark. She thought he was handsome and he even walked to her class when she was lost. Something that she thought was polite of him to do, but if she had only known then what she knows now, she would have just walked away that day. And that brought her to her current situation. Mission One avoids Clark and leaves without her sorority president, Jessica Adams, from spotting her. She wandered around the rooms of the frat house, dressed like the other twelve girls in her sorority chapter. A playboy bunny, when Jessica suggested it she could have barfed. As Katherine left the dining room smelled like throw up and booze, she was careful to look into the room that connected the dinning room to the living room. She breathed a sigh of relief, the coast was clear. She hurried through, nearly spraining her ankle in the process. As she entered the living room, she didn't see Jessica but Clark stood across the room surrounded by a few of his frat buddies. His bright messy red hair gave him away, even with the cheap green hair chalk that he had sprayed in his hair in the attempt to look like the Joker. Damn, she thought as looked around for an escape outlet. Here the music was much louder, and the bass even vibrated in her chest. She moved along the wall, feeling like she was on a mission impossible. There were more people here then in the rest of the house, here people in various costumes dancing seductively, she ducked beneath a man dressed as a zombie nearly gagging as a puff of b.o. smacked her in the face. She continued on, the open front door was in her sights. She looked back over at Clark, her heart sank when she saw that the group of boys had vanished along with Clark. Crap! Where did he go? Katherine frantically looked around the room. Suddenly an arm went around her shoulder, causing a scream to erupt from her and making a few couples nearby glare at her. "Where are you going, Rosie?" Clark laughed, she glared at him. His face paint was melting in places from sweat, and he smelt like an entire brewery. "Buzz off, Clark." She shook off his arm, when she got back she was going to have to take a shower in scalding hot water. "What's it look like I'm doing?" He held up his hands, playing innocent. "Clark!" Some hollered behind him, and Katherine took this moment to escape as he turned. She ran out onto the porch, she spotted Alison perched on some stranger's lap, his hands wandering to a place that they shouldn't. She looked away, giving them some privacy. The lawn was scattered with boys in different costumes, a few of them smoking joints while others were playing beer pong on a folding table. One of the stoners sitting on the steps looked up as she walked past, a few others spotted her and gave her sleazy grins and whistles. "Damn little bunny," stoner boy smacked her on her bottom. "Do a little dance for me, baby girl." He laughed. "Ugh." Katherine shot him a look of daggers. "As if!" She smacked his hand away and continued down the sidewalk, the boys laughed and high fives each other. Katherine couldn't help but feel violated by them, and boy was she glad to get out of there. She kept looking back, and when she saw no one following her she felt relieved. As she walked down the sidewalk, she crossed her arms. For Halloween night, not many people were out and about. She looked up ahead, and saw three men in trench coats walking towards her. Something told her to walk the other away, so when she came to an intersection she turned. When she got some distance between the corner she glanced back and saw two of the men following behind her. The hairs on her arms stood up as she quickened her pace as much as she could do in stilettos. She glanced behind her, the two men were walking faster towards her. Up ahead she spotted Cotton Creek Bridge, the bridge that led to the back way to her sorority house. She kicked her heels off and sprinted towards the bridge, not looking back to see if the men had done the same. She winced as she stepped on a piece of glass right when she stepped onto the bridge. "Well, well, looks like we have a wounded little bird." One of the men laughed behind her. "More like a bunny, John." The other laughed, they were catching up to her. Running on instinct, Katherine hurried to her feet and started sprinting again. "Look at her hop!" Suddenly, as if from thin air the third appeared in front of her. She came to a halt, her heart pounding in her chest. "Well, looks like I caught you." He chuckled, she stared into his eyes. Blood-red irises glared down at her, and like a bob cat who bobbed a rabbit he gave her a blood-crazed grin. And in the cold night a scream echoed across the skies.
