As we move further, I can hear more and more movements and voices. It seems that, after all, this was a Pack. But a Pack of rogues is nothing good if you ask me. They are always looking for troubles, always full of mischief and lies. No matter how different these look from the others, for me, they are still rogues; they are enemies.
“Now remember what I told you earlier, puppy!” Matias’ voice came once again.
“Call me that one more time, and you will regret it!” I shout-whisper in a deep, threatening voice. I was living the life of a rogue, maybe, but I was still an Alpha. Like it or not, pure Alpha blood was running through my veins.
“So you are still able to talk, uh? Wait till this meeting is done, and I will take care of that!” Matias added and started laughing.
I was about to tell him a few things, but a rough, deep voice made me not to. It sounded so confident and powerful enough even to scare a good warrior. But it didn’t scare me. There was nothing that I was afraid of now, as I had nothing to lose. Besides, there was something in this Alpha’s voice, something that he was trying so hard to hide. And from what I could tell, he was doing a great job. Well, till now.
“Matias, Roy! Finally! Welcome, my children! I was waiting for you!” The Alpha said, and I heard the two men shuffle next to me, probably bowing their heads.
“Alpha Timothy! We brought you the most wanted prize! I think Luna would be so happy to see it!” Matias said, and in the next minute, the air changed.
‘What is going on here?’ I asked myself, feeling the Alpha becoming tense for a moment.
“Leave Luna out of this! She can’t be bothered with unimportant things, and you should know it better than everyone, Matias!!” Timothy said and started walking towards me.
“Now, take that stupid bag off of his head! I need to see who this is; you said it is so important!”
Matias grabbed the bag and pulled it out in a harsh manner, not that I was expecting something else. The Alpha watched me, confused and unimpressed, with a dull look for a second before moving his gaze to the two men.
I quickly inspected my surroundings. There was indeed what looked like a Pack. But that wasn’t too important for me at that moment, as I noticed Matias carrying my bow and arrows. No one ever touched them before, and no one was supposed to. I scanned the Alpha as fast as I could, head to toe, curious about who was the one brave enough to try and capture me, let alone bring me to their Pack. A man not much older or taller than me, with blonde hair and brown eyes, was watching me expectantly.
“Well?” The Alpha asked, like waiting for some explanations, surprising the two a little. Their vast and proud smiles disappeared instantly while staring back at their leader.
“I’m sorry, Alpha, but I don’t understand…,” Roy said this time, cutting Matias off.
Timothy rolled his eyes, looking annoyed, before speaking again.
“You don’t understand?! Do you expect me to know who this bastard here is? Do I look like some wizard to you? Who the hell is this?!”
“I’m sorry, Alpha Timothy! But we thought that you would recognise the most wanted rogue hunter!”
At the mention of this, everything seemed to freeze. Not even one single sound could be heard. My eyes met his, and I noticed the Alpha’s eyes widen. I could swear I saw fear in them as he stepped back and kept looking at me.
‘Is he afraid of me?’
“The Black Hunter…” Timothy said in a low voice.
I chuckled as I found his reaction pathetic for an Alpha, and in the next second, a fist collided with my side.
“I told you to keep your head down, puppy!!” Matias said, making my anger rise.
I kicked him in the stomach with my leg, making him bend forward in pain, and then I did the same with his face. My weapons that were not correctly attached to his body dropped immediately, and I smiled in satisfaction.
“And I told you that at some point, you will regret calling me that way, boy!!”
“F**k you!” The man shouted, holding his nose, making me laugh.
From behind me, Roy was trying to hold me still. He put his arms around me, making sure that my hands were still tied. But that was all I needed. As soon as he touched me, I grabbed the small dagger he kept at his waist and kicked my head straight into his nose. With both of them holding their noses and a frozen Alpha, I had enough time to cut the ropes from around my wrists before more of their Pack members came.
“I told you, boy!” I repeated myself and quickly grabbed my precious weapons. Only about six bows left, but that was enough for me to escape this place. Even if I wished to burn it to ashes, today wasn’t that day. For the first time, I would let behind people that saw me. Even if I knew that was only the three of them, it shouldn’t have been. No one was supposed to see my face and live; no one, maybe except her, Aleera.
A cold chill surged through my body at the thought of her, but I brushed it away quickly as I needed to take care of the matter at hand.
I was facing the three men, and with a somewhat evil smile on my face, I placed three arrows next to my bow and pulled them back. I felt the tension building up in my bow’s string when I heard more of them heading our way. There was still a chance to k**l the ones in front of me and leave. In that way, no one who saw me would still be alive.
“Well, that’s it! It was nice to meet you, but I need to leave now!” I said, preparing to let the black arrows fly.
“N-no, you… .” The Alpha started stuttering, while the other two looked as cold as a stone, as death wasn’t scaring them.
“Umm, Alpha, Timothy, whatever or whoever you are, if you have any last words, just let them out. Don’t waste your time, as time is expensive!” I said calmly, pulling a bit harder at the bowstring and adjusting the arrows.
The Alpha’s knees were about to give up as he looked at me, terrified.
I rolled my eyes in disgust, and let the arrows fly, when a too-familiar voice called my name, making me move and miss my targets. A scream filled the air, and I knew it was Timothy when I heard the other two men calling his name.
As I looked in the direction of the voice that seemed to stir something inside me, my heart stopped. All of my senses were gone, and it was so hard to breathe. I was looking at her, unable to say a word, when she stepped towards me and started speaking. But all I could make out from what she was saying was my name, which sounded so good on her lips.
