After precisely twenty minutes, all my senses come back to normal. I get up on my feet and search for my bow and arrows. To my surprise, none are missing.
“Why would she capture me but didn’t take my weapons from my possession? Either she is too foolish or arrogant, thinking I can’t k*ll her!”
As I get out of the cave and into the woods, I can’t help but think about her. Her mere presence intrigues me, leave alone what she is or what she wants. I know she isn’t a werewolf, as I could have felt her wolf, but I didn't. Then again, why is Shade acting like that when she is near?
Can she be that good at hiding her other side? Is her bond with her wolf that strong? And what about her bl*od, her scent? Everything about her seems out of place.
“Or maybe it's just you!” I finally hear the voice of my wolf.
“Shade?!” I asked, panicked for a second when I realised how weak he was.
“What is happening? Do not dare to leave me, you dog! Not you too!” I said sadly, falling on my knees when I felt him slowly drifting away. I was losing him. I will be alone now, without a Mate, family or wolf. It wasn't enough that half of me died five years ago; now, my other half is dying too. After everything I’ve been through, this was the last straw. I knew that if I lost Shade too, there was no coming back to sanity. He was all I had left, and now he was about to abandon me as well.
“I-I’m…” Shade started to say, but his voice faded away before he had the chance to finish.
“Shade!!”
“Look what we have here, guys!” I heard an unknown voice as I was pushed to the ground.
Laughter filled the air while I was punched several times.
“What is wrong with you? Why don’t you fight back?” Asked one of the seven rogues that were now surrounding me. I lifted my head to look at them, but my eyes seemed covered in a thick curtain. It didn’t take me long to realise that it was bl*od - my bl*od - running down my face.
“It looks like he is not healing anymore.” Another one said, and they all stopped momentarily to look at me, confused.
“I am not healing….” I thought. The realisation came down upon me like a boulder hitting the soft of my head.
"Shade is wholly gone."
I started laughing like I didn't care about anything when, in fact, I was being shredded to pieces from the inside out.
“What is so funny?!” The first rogue asked.
I stopped my laughter and looked at the guy in front of me. I knew that he was a rogue, as well as the others, but even with my diminished senses, I could still feel his scent; he smelled different; they all were. If I didn’t know any better, at a closer inspection, I could have said that they were part of a Pack. Their scent and look were nothing like the one of a rogue.
“You are.” I finally said, letting the other thoughts fly away. I knew that in my actual condition, it would be impossible to fight them all. Well, maybe I could, but for sure, I won’t win this one. I felt like a simple human now, without being able to heal. Even my strength seems to diminish.
The guy started chuckling and turned towards his companions.
“Roy, are you sure that this is the great hunter? It seems that he is nothing more than a lost puppy.” He asked, amused, looking at the youngest of them.
“Yes, Matias! I’m sure. He is the one that….” The guy, Roy, said but was soon interrupted by who I think was their Leader.
“Enough with the details. Take him! We have other things to do, boys!” Matias said and looked at me for a moment longer before spitting next to me.
“What a disappointment!”
The others grabbed my arms and legs, and I didn’t fight back. I didn’t care what they wanted or who they were. I focused on how to regain my strength and k*ll them all. Or maybe escape for now. No matter what, I can’t let them find out who I am and put my family in danger,
After they lifted me from the ground, everything became dark. Not because I fainted again, but because they placed a bag over my head. Whoever they are, they don’t want me to know too much about them, something that makes me even more curious to do so.
It took us a few hours before we came to a stop. No one said anything else to me all this time. All they were talking about was this Leader of theirs, who apparently they have the guts to call Alpha, which reminds me of the only Alpha rogue I ever knew - Samuel. Only the thought of him makes my bl*od boil in anger.
What confused me even more, was the fact that they only punched me a couple of times, and I couldn’t understand why; why am I still alive? I know that there are thousands of rogues that want to k*ll me. But then again, that’s the point - to k*ll me, not take me to their hideaway. Something doesn’t fit right in this picture; I can feel it.
Suddenly everyone became silent, and we came to a stop. I felt Matias' scent becoming stronger, indicating that he was coming closer to me.
“Listen here, puppy! The Alpha asked to see you immediately! When this bag comes off your pretty head, you will keep your eyes down!” Matias said, hitting my head with his knuckles.
“Am I clear, puppy?! Under no circumstances look up at my Alpha, or I can promise you that it will be the last thing you see! Not that I would mind having your ass beaten to death. If it were me, I would have killed you long ago. But it is not! So be a good pet and do what I said. Then maybe you can have a bath if you are still alive. You stink!!” Matias added, and I could see his nose scrunching, even if my eyes were covered.
“Who is this Alpha, and why hasn't he killed me yet? What does he want?”
