5. Ghosts of the Past

1175 Words
Excruciating pain was taking over my chest; my heart was beating like I had run hundreds of miles without a single break. Sweat was dripping from my forehead, and my vision became blurry while my head was spinning. I saw her before when I was about to pull my arrow. She was always there with me in moments like those. But she never called my name, not even once. The only time she spoke with me was in my dreams, in my nightmares, the same ones that I have every time I sleep since that day, five years ago. Dizziness overcomes me, and I fall to my knee. My eyes were still watching her lips moving, and I noticed some concern on her face while she rushed to my side. Her hand moved toward my face, and I pulled back suddenly. I will not let myself fall into this trap. I saw a ghost. ‘She is dead! Ellaire is dead! This is not real!!’ I thought and shook my head, trying to get up, but I failed. So I closed my eyes, trying to break whatever spell this was. “It’s me, Levi. I’m-I’m real.” I opened my eyes slowly, and my lips parted on their own in surprise and confusion. She kneeled in front of me and smiled warmly. “Ell-Ellaire?” That was all I could say as her name seemed strange on my lips now. I always thought about her, but not even once did I say her name out loud after leaving my Pack. She nodded her head and placed her hand on my face. Tiny sparks erupted where our skin made contact, and my eyes widened as I realised this was real. ‘Or I’m dead!’ I thought shortly after. “Ellaire?! B-but how?! I saw you dying! I buried you!” I said while tears were streaming down my face as if I were a little boy. I knew the three men were still there, but I didn't care anymore. All I cared about was her, my Ellaire. ‘Is the Goddess giving us another chance? Did Ellaire survive for us to live happily after? Is she still loving me?’ Millions of thoughts were rushing through my head as I could not take my eyes away from her. Then I remembered; I remembered Matias calling her “Luna”. I got up quickly and took a step back. Her eyes showed hurt, confusion and something else I couldn’t decipher. “Levi? What’s wrong?” She asked, getting up as well. My eyes moved from her to the three men, who were looking at us dumbfounded. Obviously, they weren’t expecting this. After all, what would be the chances for their Luna to know someone like me? “I-I need to go! You are busy, I see.” I looked at her, then at Timothy and grabbed my weapons even if my chest felt like a building collapsed over me. She moved so quickly and grabbed my hand so fast that all I saw was a shadow. “Levi, my love. This is not what you think.” Ellaire said, looking into my eyes and smiling slightly. I pulled my hand from hers and watched her with a stone-cold face as the pain took over my heart and mind. “But what is it then?! This is why you didn’t come to find me till now?!” I asked her in a cold voice. She opened her mouth to speak, but I didn’t let her. “Five years, Ellaire! I mourned you for five f*****g years! I left everything and everyone behind and lived alone in agony, blaming myself for your death!! And you were here all the time, happy and safe with these puppets!” I said, looking at the three men for a second. “This is not what you think it is, Levi!” She said in a low voice. But instead of calming me down, it only made my rage grow. “Is it not?! Do you know how many nights I woke up because of those nightmares?! It was like I killed you millions of times since then. And every time, a small piece of me was taken away. I wanted to die! I didn’t want to feel this pain anymore! So many times! So many f*****g times!” I shout, hitting my chest with my fist. But there was no physical pain. “Levi, listen to me!” Ellaire added and took a step towards me. Tears were threatening to spill down her beautiful face, and it hurt me; it hurt me even more. Maybe I should be happy that she is alive, that I found her. But it confused me, and it was killing me while think that she was busy all this time and didn’t do anything to find me. “Take care of your Luna and Pack, Alpha Timothy!” I said to a still-frozen Timothy and turned around. “And do not think ever to try to find or attend to capture me, as next time I will k**l you all! Understood?!” I added, looking over my shoulder. The Alpha nodded like he was in a trance, or maybe only afraid to speak. “Levi, please!” Ellaire said once more. But I pretended not to hear her. “She is right, umm, Levi!” I heard Timothy speak eventually. I stopped in my tracks and bent my head to the side but did not turn to face them for a moment as a small smile was playing on my lips, thinking that there was still a chance for us to be together. That if I would ever be able to forgive her. “What did you say?” I asked and turned to face the one who spoke. I could swear that I saw him flinch, but I didn't care. He cleared his throat and took a deep breath before he spoke again. “She is right! You should listen to her!” He said with more authority, making my anger rise more than ever. “Are you trying to be bossy with me, Timothy?! Did you already forget that I could have had all of you k****d by now?” I asked him, readying my bow and arrow. “Levi, don’t!” Ellaire shouted. I looked at her for a moment and let my arrow fly when I noticed she was concerned about him. She cared for him. When no scream came from Timothy, I looked in his direction to see how I had missed my target, which had never happened before. “I’m sorry, love, but I can’t let you kill him,” Ellaire said while I looked at my arrows floating in the air. I turned my gaze back to her, and she lifted her hand with an apologetic look. The next second, everything became blurry, and my legs gave up. “I’m sorry, love, but I can’t let you leave either.”
