6. Shade

I woke up from the same nightmare, shaking hands and sweat dripping on my face. I take in my surroundings, remembering the last few things that happened before I passed out. ‘She used her powers to knock me out!’ I thought, full of hate, and got up from the cosy bed covered in black sheets. Looking around, I noticed that that was the single piece of furniture in the whole room, and the room was huge. On the edge of the bed, carefully placed, were some men's clothes. But more importantly, my bow and arrows - something that surprised me. I quickly grabbed them, dressed up and fixed the holder on my shoulder before heading towards the door. The halls were empty, and no sound could be heard like no one was living there. I start walking faster, trying to make my way out of that place and hopefully find Ellaire before leaving here forever. I noticed some stairs at the other end of the hall and ran towards them. “Ellaire!” I shouted when I heard someone talking downstairs. I was still running, so it took me only a second to get face-to-face with the one whose voice I had heard earlier. A young girl with black hair and green eyes watched me frozen in her spot. I could tell that she was scared to death, so I smiled softly, a thing that I hadn't done in a while. I was a killer, but not a monster, as many would think. “Where is Ellaire?” I asked in a cold but low voice, trying not to scare her even more. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. I watched her impatiently waiting for an answer, and her eyes widened, realising that patience wasn’t my thing. She lifted her hand in a rush and pointed to my left. I looked in that direction and saw that she meant an open door that led somewhere outside. I sighed and turned to leave but stopped in my tracks as I sensed a weird scent. It was from the girl. “Who are you?” I asked and turned to face her again. But she was long gone. I looked at where she was staying earlier, confused while sniffing the air, trying to figure out that particular scent. I was so focused on that as I didn’t notice someone approaching me. “Levi, my love, you are awake,” Ellaire said from behind me. “Ellaire?” “Come, my love, let's get you some food. You must be starving.” She said and grabbed my hand, pulling me behind her and out of the building. I immediately forgot what was so important that it made me stop in my tracks earlier. Her touch seemed to ease me, to make me feel at peace somehow. Maybe I should give us another chance. But not before I find out what happened, how she got here, how she is still alive. "Is everything alright, my love?" Ellaire asked again, breaking the trance. "Umm, yeah. Yeah, everything is fine—just a weird feeling." I said, trying to brush away the strange chill running down my spine. She stopped and looked at me, suspicious, without saying anything, then smiled and nodded her head right before continuing her rushed walk. "Where are you taking me? Shouldn't we talk before anything else? There are so many questions, so many empty spaces." I said, yanking quickly but gently at her delicate hand. "Oh, Levi! There is not even a tiny thing that changed about you, my love. I know that you have questions; I do. And I promise you that all will be answered. But now, I think you need to eat and rest first. You look so, umm, weakened. Let me take care of you, and I swear I will tell you everything you want to know." She said in a calm and warm voice, then kissed my cheek. A smile was playing on my lips at her touch, and my heart was beating like I were in a race. A race against time. I knew that things would happen in the past five years with her that I won't like at all. But I needed to know. I needed this more than anything. We entered a big building that proved to be what we call a Packhouse. But this one was nothing like what I'd seen before. To my surprise, no one was there. 'What is happening with this place? It's like everyone else disappeared in thin air.' Like reading my mind, Ellaire laughed softly and turned to face me. "I gave everyone a day off, my love. So we two can have a little bit of intimacy. I know how curious people can get, and I didn't want you to feel overwhelmed somehow by their antics. Now sit down; I'll prepare you something quickly." I watched her from behind as she got farther and farther away. Her hips were swaying hypothetically, and I knew she was smiling at that very moment. She was aware of how much she was affecting me. Even now, after so much time. 'Levi.' I heard the weak voice of my wolf. 'Shade? Shade!' I said, happier than ever before, thinking there was a chance for our bond to stay intact. 'Levi, you must keep your eyes wide open. There is something off with this rogue Pack. I will fight to stay with you as long as I can.' 'Shade, she's alive. She's alive, Shade, and we are back together. I have found our Ellaire. Or better yet, she found us. She might be able to help us.' I said, hurriedly feeling my wolf slipping away once again. When I was about to sit, Ellaire came with a big plate full of roast. "Your food is ready, my love." She said with a blink of an eye. Involuntary, I started laughing, and she joined me the next moment. Maybe we can be like we should be - happy with each other.
