Chapter 1
It was raining. The skies were dark grey and the streets were shiny and spotted with lights. A beautiful site to see for the right person. Perhaps I am the right person. The one who can see the beauty in most things people take for granted.
I’m sitting in a nice restaurant. I like it not for the food or drink, but because it’s small and secluded. I like to watch people out the window, but in this small town all the people are the same. Maybe it’s best that way. I moved here a little over 10 years ago. I was the talk of the town for a while. This town is known as the town for all that’s old. That’s mostly because the population never gets any higher and everyone still living here is here to live out the rest of their lives.
My name is William Roxinbellar. My age; lets just say I’ve been here awhile, an impossibly long while. I have a secret about myself, as most people do. However, my secret is one that should be kept for my safety and the safety of others. My history is something I wish I could talk about to other people as they could learn a thing or a thousand from me. I’ve been in countless wars. I’ve basically done every job imaginable. I guess I could be considered a master of all skills, but there’s always new ones to learn. I’ve only had a handful of real loves in my life. It’s difficult to go through love with someone you know will soon perish before your very eyes. I’m stuck here, forever in a vicious cycle.
I lied about the town before. It is considered the town of all things old, but that is not entirely true. A year ago a woman and her 5 year old daughter came to live here. It seemed odd to everyone, they don’t get to see fresh faces very often. Especially ones as young as Ciera, the daughter. Ciera has caught my utmost attention. Her brown straight hair. Her eyes I swear reflect endless evergreen forests. She was a small and cute little girl. Her mother was young when she had Ciera and decided to move in with her mother just down the street from my house. Their yard is gigantic and it borders the woods. The woods I like to spend my time in. Ciera seems to like the woods as well as I watch her gaze at the trees from her yard. She’s not allowed into the woods yet, not till she’s older. Something about this young lady pulls my heart. Like a fatherly need to protect. It gives me great pleasure that there are no children her age around, especially boys they would certainly cause a lot of trouble. I’ll get to have Ciera all to myself.
Ciera has become my obsession. She is a smart and beautiful young girl. She is getting older now at the age of 6. I spend most of my time infatuated with her. I know where she is at all times as I can smell and hear her. Her scent calms and rattles me all at the same time. It wildly confuses me. As I said before, I’ve tuned all my senses onto her and she is now walking through the door of the very restaurant I am seated in.
