Untitled Episode
Elisa’s POV
It is a prank!
That was all my head to take the moment I heard what my husband had to say to me after half a year of enduring his silent treatment. He looked so serious that it was like he was discussing with his potential business partner.
“No!” I said after summoning all the courage I had left in me as I fell to the ground in shock.
He laughed and I was happy for a bit before his face changed from smiling to anger. I have never seen him like that except when he lost his first contract with a second-tier family. He dropped the file right in my front as he spoke in a resounding tone.
“Elisa, I am done with you. Is it that hard for you to comprehend? I am done with wasting my precious life and time with nobody like you. An orphan who is nothing but an empty barrel. You cannot produce a child and neither can you not assist me business-wise, my parent warned me but I was blinded by your words and I did not think straight or think about the future because if I had done that, I wouldn’t have ended up with you regardless of the burning love I had in my heart.”
I looked at him I could feel my bones breaking, everything sounded vague. I took two steps forward but he did the same but towards the back, I looked down at the file and my tongues were tied.
I could see his name boldly on the file and so was his signature, he was not willing to think twice about it all. “I am not cruel, I know you have nothing and we have strived for everything together, so this is it!
You get to take my house in the state and a sum of twenty thousand dollars, that is enough to start up something. At least, we are not bonded by a child!” he said and that was all I heard.
A child!
Is that the reason he said all these, a child! Is it breaking off because I don’t have a child of my own yet?
“Desmond, Son, you don’t need to feel bad for her, after all, we have been feeding her all these while without considering her unproductiveness. She should thank her luck we are still considering giving her a house to cover her shame in the state and a whopping sum to start a life.
She is not even as useful as that to you or the family. Her presence has no value to the house and the family business and neither do we get to have an heir from her.” A mature woman's voice resounded from the top and it was no other person but Mrs. Carter, my mother-in-law.
Before they could even get to us, Jane, my sister-in-law also added to the words of my mother-in-law.
“Brother, my friends even mentioned that women who doesn’t give birth in the first year of their marriage are either intentionally doing it so they can kill their husband and claim his property or they want to divorce and get to marry another rich man out there.”
She said and I looked up with my red bloodshot eye and my words seized. “Brother, don’t let her tears and her face deceive you. You have done absolutely nothing wrong to her and we owe her nothing, marriage is a mutual agreement and the dissolution of the marriage should not be as difficult as she makes it look.
We are just giving her what she wants, I am sure this tears and pity face is just to pretend like she cares, she doesn’t, I am sure, she is happy within her.” Jane added and I looked at my husband who was torn between being polite to me and being harsh as his family as said.
Mrs. Carter walked to me with her shoulder high as she handed a pen to me, “sign it now or I will ask my son to withdraw all he promised and you will be thrown out by the guards” she said and I looked at my husband for the last time and all I saw was his firm determination to throw me out as fast as possible.
How long has he been a thing of this?
Why?
I knew no amount of tears could make him change his mind neither would anything I said affect him at this time. I simply opened the file and flipped the pages till I found the spot for my signature, I looked at him for the last time and he looked away.
“Don’t look at him anymore, he won’t stop you!” my mother-in-law said and I signed the files immediately. I handed it over to her but she flipped another page for me to sign and I saw it was for the change of ownership of the properties he promised me.
“I am sorry, I won’t sign those, it is Desmond's decision to tear our marriage apart, I don’t want anything from him, as my husband, I have respected his wish and I have signed the divorce papers,” I said and they were shocked.
“don’t try to play the pity card on us and make us feel that you are worth more than a gold digger,” Jane said and I smiled as I wiped my tears and looked at her. “I don’t need to play the pity card at any point in time, you have my words, I won’t take anything for you guys because if I want to, I will be taking everything that is here!” I said as anger started brewing in me at the thought of claiming all that belonged to me.
“you, ungrateful swine, how dare you want more than we have given you!” Mrs. Carter yelled and I moved away from her. “Elisa, I understand that you have once lent me some more for the project when we got married but that doesn’t give you the right to claim what is not.
I have given you a face enough by sending you away with a house and a sum of money! Appreciate it and leave.” He said and I laughed. “This is purely business, funds are investments and they appreciate. I was not going to pursue anything but it seems that the characters have forgotten their place!
And I would love to make it known that I will claim everything that belongs to me and I will get everything I deserve for wasting my years here!” I said strongly as I still could not fathom where the anger and courage I had were coming from.
“You, bastard, leave right now, I have always known you are good for nothing and you are a bloody gold digger. From now on, you are unrelated to us and you will never be welcomed here!”
Mrs. Carter said and she immediately had a breath seizure, Jane ran towards her to help her come down and sit while Desmond walked up to me. “You have done enough, leave!” he whispered and his breath felt on my neck irritating me and I wondered why I had loved it before.
I looked at him for the last time and walked toward the door while he returned to his mother’s side. "Mum, be calm, you don’t have to hurt yourself like this, remember, you will be a grandmother in a few months!” he said and my heart got hit immediately.
