CHAPTER 9. Megan’s POV. I thought I was dead because the last thing I remembered was the feeling of drowning, the world slipping away from me. The pain I had felt before I fell unconscious wasn’t left out. But as I opened my eyes, The rays of the moon shone brightly on my face, causing me to blink rapidly. I gasped loudly when I noticed how long I stayed unconscious. I was knocked out in the evening….and it’s late at night now. I had to readjust myself on the bed, and I groaned slightly when I felt pains all over. Then the blurry image of Khalid saving me surfaced in my mind, and a sharp pain accompanied the memory. “Why did he save me?” I rolled my eyes, completely confused by the fact that he saved me. The fact that Khalid saved me was shocking because it was obvious that he hated me, so he could have just let me die peacefully. I breathed deeply and looked around the room, with wonder! I wondered how I managed to get here, and who must have brought me here. My heart beat increased as I looked around the room with fear, thinking that I was being watched from afar. I checked each corner of the room, thinking if I could get any glimpse of a spy cam hanging on the wall, but I didn’t see anything. Then, I managed to calm down, my breathing steadying and my heartbeat returning to normal, but I couldn't stand being in the room or house any longer, especially with the beast around. Her gaze was burned into my memory, and it was suffocating. All of a sudden, the memory came flashing back and I gasped. My superhuman strength! “Where the heck did it come from?” I asked myself in vivid surprise because it was a whole new feeling. I had never felt that way before in my entire life, so it felt new and weird. “The strength was new,” I thought, until I remembered the look of surprise on her face when I pushed her with it. I shook my head, knowing fully well that I couldn’t cope staying here any longer. I came down from the bed and tiptoed to the room door, and after checking left and right to ensure that no one was coming, I ran out of the room. My legs carried me as fast as they could into the woods. My body hurt, but I managed to ignore the pain and run for my dear life. I needed to clear my head, to escape the weight of Alexis's stare and hatred. The woods were dark and dense, but I welcomed their embrace. As I made my way deeper into the forest, I gazed up at the full moon high above me. It was a beautiful sight, a perfect silver orb that seemed to glow with an otherworldly light. I had to locate a rock and sit on it, with different thoughts rummaging my mind. “Why did she hate me that much?” I wondered silently. I knew anyone would feel threatened whenever a guest comes into their pack, especially when the person is not their kind….but I didn’t expect her to take it this far. “She stood it really personal, like I had done something to her,” I thought and breathed deeply. I continued to stare at the moon and my body suddenly erupted in pain. I began to wonder what was happening to me? It felt weird and painful because it was the first time something like that was happening to me! It felt as if my bones were breaking and reshaping themselves, the agony almost too much to bear. I clenched my teeth, my hands gripping onto a nearby tree trunk for support. “Aahhhh!” I cried in pain. I scrunched my face in pain as I tried to control myself, but it wasn’t working. The pain grew more and more intense, and I felt myself teetering on the edge of consciousness. Darkness called me, but I forced myself to remain conscious even when the pain consumed me. Pains from the fight with Alexis earlier that day, coupled with the one that was happening to me at that moment, which I’m not aware of. I would have given in to the darkness if not for the sound of a voice calling my name. “Megan!” The voice screamed, and I sensed worry in the voice. It was low, meaning that whoever had called my name was farther into the forest. It was faint, but it was there, breaking through the pain that threatened to consume me. The voice was familiar, comforting, and I clung to it like a lifesaver. Slowly, the voice became loud enough for me to hear it, and I wondered why it was so familiar. I didn’t have much time to think because I was battling with pain, as my bones cracked. I didn't know what was happening to me, but I knew that I had to endure it. I began to pray silently, that the voice should call me again, but unfortunately, I didn’t hear it. I knew I had to find the source of the voice because that was the only way I could fight through this weird happening and emerge victorious. I had noticed that the voice made me more strong and determined to break through this…. and I kept on hoping the voice came again “Megan!” The voice came again, this time louder than the first.
