“You should eat more Koko. The doctor said you have to,” Cusa said to Koko as she pushed the tray of food away after a couple of spoons. “I am okay sir. I think I have had enough,” Koko said acting shy. “I think we have talked about you calling me sir. My name is Cusa,” Cusa said frowning at her. Koko smiled coyly at him then averted her gaze before saying, “I think it is wrong of me to call you by your name.” “You saved my life, Koko, even when you didn't have to, and I am forever grateful to you. To me, you are my family, and families don't use sirs for each other,” Cusa said, smiling at her. Koko looked up shyly into his eyes for a second or two before lowering her gaze. She let her long lashes sweep lower in a way she knew would not fail to mesmerize any male. Koko knew her strong points. She knew she was beautiful, and most males would find her attractive. “Ok Cusa,” Koko said shyly. “You see. It costs you nothing. Besides, I love the way you pronounce my name,” Cusa said and Koko giggled happily. “Now you have to eat, and I am feeding you myself this time,” Cusa added, then picked up the tray, drew closer to Koko, and took the spoon to scoop food into Koko's mouth. Koko took the first spoon shyly but soon resigned to him feeding her. She ate heartily and quickly finished the food on her plate. “I think I can get used to you feeding me every day,” Koko said before she took the bottled water and drank. “And I will gladly oblige you. I think I like feeding you,” Cusa said then winked at Koko. She blushed and then lowered her head to avert her gaze. “I can't believe I finished that food,” Koko said. “You did. I guess you must have liked me feeding you,” Cusa said. “Very much. Thank you,” Koko said shyly. She didn't look at Cusa at all. “I will just …” What Cusa was about to say was cut short by the knock on the door. Cusa asked whoever it was to come in. Beta Keme walked in. His hard eyes relaxed and he smiled as his gaze landed on Koko. “Good afternoon Beta Keme,” Koko greeted shyly. “My beautiful lady. It is such a pleasure to be in your presence,” Keme said, then winked at Koko, who blushed and quickly looked away. The exchange irritated Cusa. He cleared his throat noisily to get Keme's attention. Keme quickly noticed his expression and quickly sobered up. “Why are you here Keme? I am sure that you are not here to make a sick female more uncomfortable,” Cusa said glaring at Keme. “I am sorry if I made her uncomfortable. My apologies Miss Koko,” Keme said. “I am not uncomfortable,” Koko said. “Why are you here Keme?” Cusa asked again, as it seemed they were diverting to another topic. “I am here to let you know what your princess has been up to,” Keme said with unrestrained disdain. Cusa totally ignored Keme's disrespectful way of talking about his wife. This did not go unnoticed by Koko. “What do you mean? Cusa asked frowning. “She went to visit her father at the palace, then returned with a maid, but before she went to the palace, she interfered with my discipline of a slave. Now she has employed the slave as her personal guard and even instructed that he be given a room at the guards' quarters,” Keme explained in his own unique way of arranging details from the rare to the beginning. “How is that a subject of concern?” Cusa asked. Nothing that involved Mitena ever sparked his interest as long as she was not doing anything to jeopardize his peace. “I said she interfered with slave management. She questioned my authority and even had the guts to put her nose in the air and ask me to give him a room to himself,” Keme said with anger in his voice. “What Mitena decides to do with herself is none of my business Keme. I will just advise that you let her have her fun. She is a spoilt brat and getting in her way will only hurt your ego,” Cusa said dismissively. “Your father scolded me because of her,” Keme complained like a child. “My parents do not tolerate her brat behavior and you know it. There must have been a good reason for that but I will talk to father about it,” Cusa said. “I will take my leave now, but before I go, I heard that she has suddenly developed an interest in pack affairs,” Keme said, then left even without a goodbye to Koko. He had not expected Cusa to be that nonchalant about what he said, and it had annoyed him, but he hid his annoyance perfectly. Cusa frowned. He wondered why Mitena had suddenly developed an interest in the pack's affairs. To him, that was dangerous. He needed her to continue being ignorant of a lot of things. He knew he had to speak to his parents immediately. “I will return this plate to the kitchen,” Cusa said as he distractedly picked up the tray. “Are you okay? You look worried,” Koko asked but Cusa quickly smiled and brightened up for her. “I am fine. I just need to get something done. I will be right back and I need you to rest. I will check on you later,” Cusa said to Koko and she nodded in understanding. Cusa left the room and Koko sighed happily as her face lit up. She knew she had Cusa eating from her palms as well as some of the pack members who had met her. She got up from where she was sitting, turned the key in the lock, and quickly got a small stone from under the bed. She wrapped her hands tightly around the stone, then she relaxed. She closed her eyes as she securely made the connection she was looking for in her mind. She had not communicated with that person in three days because Cusa had always been there caring for her. But with the look in his eyes before he left the room, she knew that he wouldn't be back yet. Koko couldn't use the mind link because people like her do not use the mind link. They belonged nowhere, but she and her group were going to rectify that. So, communication with her group can only be possible through magic and interruption. “Are you there?” Koko whispered into her mind. “Oh my goodness, Koko. You scared me. I was beginning to think that the wound we gave you was far too damaging,” a male voice said into her mind. “The wound was nothing magic couldn't handle,” Koko said. “Why didn't you contact us?” The voice asked. “I am sorry, he is hovering. You know how tricky the mind communication can be while using magic,” Koko said. “Of course, I understand entirely. By him do you mean Cusa?” The male voice asked. . “Yes. He has been taking care of me. He thinks he owes me his life. From the look of things getting him might be easier than we thought,” Koko said. “What do you mean?” The male voice asked in interest. “I don't think he loves his mate,” Koko answered. “So those rumors are true,” the male voice said with excitement. “What rumors. He is married to the princess but they are not mates. They are chosen mates. From the rumors, I heard that he doesn't love her and the entire pack treats her like s**t, but she still tries to please them,” the male voice said, then he laughed happily. “That makes my assignment here easier then. Since he doesn't love her…” “Turning him against her and using him against the kingdom will be very easy,” the male voice finished for Koko. “Exactly!” Koko said excitedly. “Have you met the parents?” The male voice asked. “Of course, and like their son, they love me,” Koko said, smiling at Cusa's parents foolishly. “Good. Remember that the destruction of the princess is very important. That is the only way to get what we want,” the male voice said. “I promise to do everything from my own end to ensure that we do not fail.” “And keep in touch from time to time until we can plant someone there with you,” the male voice said. “I promise to keep in contact,” Koko said and the link went dead. Koko opened her eyes and smiled. The first stage was done. She was in and from then on, she must strategically plan. Luckily the princess wouldn't be difficult to destroy. Cusa and his entire pack already set that in motion. “What an easy assignment!” Koko said in her heart then sighed. She was happy that everything would be over sooner than she thought.
