From a young age, my parents made sure that my siblings and I attended church regularly even before my Dad got ordained as a pastor. This was a non-negotiable in our household, even when we were sick or tired. Over time, my siblings and I began to resent having to go to church every week, but my parents were firm in their conviction that it was important for our spiritual well-being.
As we grew older, something began to shift within us. My brother, who had always been resistant to attending church, suddenly started to find meaning and joy in our Sunday services.
In a recent conversation with my brother, he shared with me how attending church had become something he looked forward to each week. He spoke of the feeling of peace and fulfillment that he experienced when taking part in the service as a drummer. He said that he felt a sense of connection to something greater than himself, and that he had found a sense of purpose through his spiritual life.
It was so touching to hear him speak about his journey with such honesty and vulnerability. It made me realize just how much of an impact our upbringing had on who we are today.
The experience of witnessing my brother's transformation made me realize the importance of spiritual life, and how it can shape who we are as individuals.
