When the healer had left, Becca sat up.
"What happened to you" Noah asked.
"I don't know" Becca replied, the girls were stunned.
"You can talk?" Noah asked.
"Yes, I can" Becca replied and turned to Kiri. "You were right Kiri, I don't know if I can call you a magician or even a sorcerer because you know everything"
Kiri scoffed, Shema rose up from her bed.
"We must tell Madame Tirzah about this, that this girl is a fraud"
"She knows already , Shema, but you can go to her if you want, she won't treat you better than she has been treating you"
Shema looked angry, she sat back, scowling.
"What really happened to you?" Noah asked. "You were so hot, now you aren't"
"Damn this body" Becca sucked her teeth.
"Damn?, what's that?" Noah asked, confused.
"It's just something you say when you are pissed"
"Pissed??"
Becca glared at her. "Why do you talk too much" She frowned and smiled quickly as a thought came to mind. "Do you still want to leave this place?" She asked her.
"You are talking silly things, Sol, I think you still have the fever, it's not normal that you are talking all of a sudden"
"Yes, it isn't"
"So, how do you plan to escape?"
"Stick to me Noah, I am going to be your escape plan" She smiled, Noah stared at her, confused.
Hoglah lay aside the reading stones with a look of discontent at the newspaper; Kol Othniel, the newest groom in the city had just lost his wife, making it the third woman who has lost her life after getting married to him, two brided of his had gone missing and three had died of mysterious causes, making it five women who had met an unfortunate fate after marrying him.
Rumours were everywhere that he had bad luck, and families were waiting him and hide their daughters from him.
"At this point I don't know if he should just remain single, how does his wives keep getting missing and dying and making him a widower, this is the fifth one" She said, utterly displeased.
Her guest, Dame Suvya smiled.
"Master Kol Othniel is one of the finest and richest bachelors in Quin city, any and every girl will want to take the risk by getting married into his family"
"Suvya, I mean, no family will want to give their daughter to him, unless he married a lady outside Quin city, it will be sure that his lineage will come to an abrupt end"
"They say it is bad omen to speak about the end of a person's lineage, Hoglah, let us change the topic"
"Yes"
"And lady Achsah?"
"Soon, my pretty niece will start getting suitors, I am sure of it"
"Really?"
"She has been getting a lot of invites to parties where she can socialise with people of her standing"
"Good for her, this will surely improve her social life, I was worried because she has always loved staying indoors"
After so much thinking during the night that finally resulted to her getting the fever, Rebecca had come up with a solution, a solution to going home.
"Dying"
It seemed like the best solution, it seemed like the best escape plan. She came here, into this world when she was at the brink of dying, so if she was to ever leave this world, it would be by the same process. But, if Theodore Suarez (Amraphel) had written the story, and he had blabbed about him knowing her end, does that mean, she was going to die.....
She clutched her chest, her heart was beating.
' I can't even think of death right now....damn that asshole, he is a devil..., I want to just shoot him again.... damnit!!! '
She looked around her, the other girls were by their bedside talking, Noah was searching through her things, looking for a dress.
"What are you doing?" Rebecca asked.
"I am looking for my purple dress, Madame Tirzah told me, I will be attending a party tonight" She mumbled.
Rebecca looked away.
A maiden walked into the room, the girls raised their heads up, they were waiting for a command, the maiden works in Madame Tirzah's special chambers.
"Sol" She called. "Come out soon, the carriage is ready" She said and walked out of the room, the girls turned to Becca, inquiringly.
"You are going to the market??" Noah asked in unbelief, the other girls stared, with wide eyes, gaping.
Never, ever, were dancers allowed to leave the hostel..... not even in a carriage, if they ever have to. This was like shaming the elite and noble ladies of Quin city, by parading a dancer like that, a dance that was lesser than a servant.
"Yes" Becca said subtly. "I am just going for a little walk"
walk???? hahahaha, as if???
"I don't believe it!!" Kiri began angrily. "A walk?? you?? as if"
"It's too boring here, I just want to see how beautiful Quin city is"
"What did you do to make her let you go, sisters, this girl is evil, she has cast a spell on the Madame"
She laughed. "Spell?? Kiri, I love your imagination, it's wild, sister"
"You are not my sister, you are a witch"
"Yes, I am a witch, a witch is better than a fool"
"What?"
Becca walked to the mirror and looked at herself over it. She was dressed in a blue linen dress.
"Amazing" Noah said as she stood behind her. "You must get me cakes then, lots of them"
"Okay"
Becca turned to the other girls, they shifted their gaze. She picked up her purse.
Finally, she was out of the house, where she had to hide her true self.
As she walked in the market, she drew a lot of attention, because everyone knew she was "Fair lady, Sol".
"That is fair lady Sol" A trader said to his neighbour. "Is she here to buy something?"
"Isn't she a dancer??"
"I heard she is so dear to Madame Tirzah, she is the star of the House "
"Come, my fair lady, come, I have purple cloths for sale, it is of a fine texture and it will suit you" A trader called out.
"Come fair lady, get sweet snacks, cakes and sweets, yum yum"
"Fair lady, check out our fine kitchenwares for your household"
"Do you have a husband, come, and I will tell you your future"
She turned to the trader, he winked at her, she smiled.
"Ah! I am dying to hear about my future, let's see eachother later, then" She said.
"I'll be waiting my lady, for your hand and the beauty of your presence....." He said in a singsong.
She laughed.
' crooks, how can you tell me my future when I don't belong in this world '
She walked to a book stall along with a male servant who came with her, as a carriage rider and an escort.
"Madame" He said to Becca, even though he hated it, for even servants were treated better than dancers and prostitutes, but Madame Tirzah was making him call her that. "We better ride in the carriage, and Madame Tirzah will never support you buying irrelevant things"
"Don't worry about her support, just do your job by showing me around the market and taking me back"
He frowned.
She turned to the shelves.
"Oh, Madame Sol, what do you want to buy, books on s*x and marriage, or is it on fortune ..... I have novels too" The trader said.
Her eyes fell on a box full on books on the floor.
"What are these?"
"Oh, I am throwing them out, they are worthless"
She picked a book.
"Oh, Madame, it is no good , no one wants to but it, I have wasted so much money on it"
It was titled "Earth "
"I'll buy it" She said.
"What? Madame, you can't buy something that worthless" The servant cut in.
She glared at him, it was so fierce and bold that he bowed his head before he even realised it.
"How much?" She turned to the trader.
"Oh, Madame, I don't cheat people"
"Honesty?, oh...pls, tell me, I'll pay you"
"Ok, pay 5 pennies"
"Honest indeed" The servant sneered. "You could have given her for free, shrewd trader"
"It's okay, he must make a living too" She smiled as the servant handed her the coins and the trader wrapped the book.
' Are you my freedom? '
She looked at the wrapped book with a smile as they walked to another stall, the servant In front of her. He wanted to still feel in charge, because a woman should always be behind a man, even noble women walked behind their husbands and men of noble birth, not to talk of a lowly person like her, she was already making him feel less of himself because of her boldness.
