Ethan's eyes narrowed.
"What was taken?" he demanded.
The head of security swallowed hard.
"The confidential project file, sir. The one kept in your private safe."
A heavy silence settled over the group.
Maya looked at Ethan in shock.
"How could someone know where it was?"
Ethan didn't answer immediately. His gaze swept across the employees gathered outside before settling on Maya.
"Because someone on the inside helped them."
The words sent a chill through her.
Back inside the building, the security team reviewed the surveillance footage. Maya watched as the cameras showed employees rushing toward the exits when the alarm sounded.
Then the screen flickered.
Thirty seconds of footage had been erased.
"Someone hacked our security system," the technician said.
Ethan clenched his jaw.
"Find out who."
Just then, Daniel Blackwood walked into the security room.
"I warned you," he said quietly.
Ethan frowned.
"You know something."
Daniel nodded.
"The file that was stolen isn't about business."
Maya stared at him.
"Then what is it about?"
Daniel looked at Ethan before answering.
"It's about your family's past... and the person responsible for your father's death."
The room fell silent.
Maya's heart pounded as she turned to Ethan. His face had gone pale.
"So it's true," she whispered.
Ethan slowly nodded.
"The thief didn't steal money."
He looked toward the dark security monitor.
"They stole the truth."
