The Mask Falls

275 Words
The warehouse erupted into chaos. Before Ethan's men could react, smoke grenades exploded across the concrete floor. Thick grey clouds swallowed the room, leaving only the sound of footsteps and shouted orders. "Protect Mr. Blackwood!" Daniel yelled. Gunfire echoed through the darkness. Ethan ignored the danger. There was only one person on his mind. "My sister!" he shouted. A familiar voice answered from somewhere deeper inside the warehouse. "Ethan! I'm here!" Without hesitation, he ran toward the sound. As the smoke cleared, he found her tied to a metal chair. She looked exhausted but unharmed. "I'm getting you out of here," he promised. Just as he untied the ropes, slow clapping echoed through the building. The masked man stepped onto a metal platform above them. "I have to admit, Ethan," he said with a grin, "you're even more determined than I expected." Ethan glared at him. "This ends tonight." The man laughed and slowly removed his mask. Everyone froze. "It can't be..." Maya whispered. Standing before them was Victor Hale, Ethan's former business partner—the man everyone believed had died three years earlier. "You've been chasing a ghost," Victor said. "Now it's time to pay for betraying me." Ethan shook his head. "I never betrayed you." "Oh, but someone did." Victor's eyes shifted toward Maya. "And she's been hiding the truth from you all along." Maya's face turned pale. "Ethan... I can explain." Before anyone could move, the warehouse began to shake. A timer on the wall flashed red. 02:00... 01:59... Victor smiled as he backed toward a hidden exit. "Goodbye, Mr. Blackwood." The steel doors slammed shut behind him. The countdown had begun.
