The Enemy Revealed

The mansion plunged into darkness. Sophia's breathing quickened as thunder shook the windows. She gripped Ethan's arm while footsteps echoed through the hallway. "Everyone stay together," Ethan ordered. The emergency lights flickered on, casting a dim red glow across the room. A tall figure stepped out of the shadows, dressed in a black suit with a confident smile. Victor Hale. "You look surprised," Victor said calmly. "You should have made sure I was really dead." Ethan's eyes burned with anger. "You destroyed my company." Victor laughed. "No, Ethan. You destroyed yourself. I simply waited for the perfect moment." Sophia looked between the two men. "What do you want?" Victor's smile faded. "Everything Ethan took from me." He pulled out a small flash drive and tossed it onto the table. "Every secret... every illegal deal... every lie your husband has hidden is on that drive." Sophia stared at Ethan. "Tell me he's lying." Ethan remained silent. That silence hurt more than any words. Tears welled in Sophia's eyes as she slowly stepped away from him. "I trusted you." Before Ethan could explain, the sound of police sirens filled the night. Blue and red lights flashed through the mansion windows. Victor smiled. "They're here for you, Ethan." The front door burst open as officers rushed inside. "Ethan Blackwood," the lead detective announced, "you are under investigation for corporate fraud and conspiracy." The room fell silent. Sophia watched as Ethan was surrounded by officers. For the first time in years, the billionaire who had controlled everything had nowhere left to run.
