The silence after the phone call was suffocating.
Ethan lowered the phone slowly, his grip tightening until his knuckles turned white. The man who had ruled one of the country's largest business empires now stood frozen, stripped of everything in a single sentence.
Sophia searched his face. For the first time, she didn't see the untouchable billionaire everyone feared.
She saw a man who had just lost his kingdom.
"Who did this?" she asked quietly.
Ethan's jaw clenched.
"They've been planning this for months," he admitted. "The betrayal didn't start today."
Before Sophia could respond, Isabella stepped forward.
"There is something else you need to know."
She slid another document across the table.
"The person leading this attack isn't just after your company," Isabella said. "They're after your family."
Ethan opened the file. His eyes widened.
"No..."
Sophia leaned over his shoulder. The first page showed a familiar face.
Victor Hale.
The former business partner everyone believed had died in a plane crash five years ago.
"He faked his death," Ethan whispered.
"And now," Isabella replied, "he wants revenge."
A loud crash echoed through the mansion as lightning lit the sky.
At that moment, Ethan's head of security rushed into the room.
"Sir!" he shouted. "The security cameras have been hacked. We have intruders on the property!"
Sophia's heart pounded.
"How many?"
"At least six."
The mansion lights suddenly flickered before everything went dark.
Only the flashes of lightning illuminated the room.
Footsteps echoed through the hallway.
Someone was inside.
Ethan reached for Sophia's hand.
"Stay behind me," he ordered.
A deep voice broke the silence from the shadows.
"Welcome to the beginning of your downfall, Ethan."
The voice was unmistakable.
Victor Hale had come back from the dead.
