Ava’s Point of View
I wish I had fallen from a tree rather than fallen in love with Julian. He's so heartless that I'm sure even the devil is watching him with his mouth agape. He wants me to return to him and accept that he loves Lily.
And what about me? What does he think of me? Does he think I'm so desperate for his love that I'd throw my self-respect in the dustbin?
My hand wrapped around the cell pole, my knuckles turned white as I gripped it tightly.
He's hurt me more than I deserve. I tolerated everything because I loved him. He's only witnessed my love all these years, and now he's going to witness my wrath. I'm going to make him go on his knees and apologize, but I won't be merciful then.
“You are all a bunch of idiots!”
The sound of footsteps echoed, followed by Sophie's voice as they approached.
Two officers came into view, and Sophie followed behind them. They unlocked the cell.
“Ava Smith, you are free to go home.”
They announced.
A smile stretched across my lips. Sophie can make anything possible, and that's why I love her so much.
“Next time you think of arresting anyone, get your facts straight. Do you investigate, gather valid evidence, and then you can arrest anyone?”
Sophie's voice was laced with disapproval as she turned to me.
“Come on, Ava, let's go.”
She draped her arms over my shoulder, and we began walking out of the police station.
My brows furrowed, confused.
“How did you do it?”
I couldn't help but ask. I didn't think it would be easy for me to be released since Julian and his girlfriend were the ones to lay a complaint against me.
“I need to tell you something before we go home.”
Sophie bit down on her lower lip, nervous.
I halted in my steps, and so did she. I knew she must have done something dangerous to get me released from jail. I hope she didn't.
“Sophie, tell me what you did before we go home, and don't you dare lie to me.”
I stared at her, waiting for her to tell me what she did.
“I sold your violin to Lily, and I hired a hacker to get me a full video of what happened in the bathroom that day.”
Sophie fidgeted with her fingers, avoiding my gaze. I froze momentarily as her words sank in, but I quickly forced a smile.
I didn't want her to feel guilty when all she did was to help me. I'm going to take everything from them anyway, so it all means I can get it back.
“It's okay, Sophie, you don't have to feel guilty about any of this.”
My voice betrayed my words. The fact that she has my mother's violin didn't sit well with me, and I also understand why Sophie did what she did.
“I'm really sorry, Ava, I couldn't bear to see you behind bars any longer, and I did what I had to.”
Her chin quivered as she tried to explain, and I honestly understand why she had to do it.
I sighed.
“It's alright, Sophie. Come on now, stop apologizing, and let's go home. I'm tired right now.”
I held her hand as the two of us proceeded, making our way outside, but I stopped when my eyes landed on Julian and someone standing in front of him; they seemed to be talking, but Julian seemed to be seething with rage.
“I think we should hear what they are talking about.”
I whispered to Sophie, my voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes narrowed as she followed my gaze to where Julian was.
The two of us moved silently behind the walls from where they were standing, keeping our footsteps light.
“You took away the woman I loved from me, didn't you? I'm going to take the woman you love from you, and I will make her suffer in your watch.”
My eyes widened as the sound of Ethan's voice echoed. I can never be mistaken; it was him, and I'm very sure of it.
Julian scoffed.
“You can do whatever you want with Ava, I don't care, but if you dare tell her the truth about Lily, I will kill you.”
Julian's voice was laced with disdain.
Ethan let out a laugh.
“The truth will always come out, and one day or another, Ava is going to know that Lily killed her sister, and you covered for her like a possessed lover boy.”
My eyes widened, shocked.
Does this mean Ethan was playing a sick game with me all along, and how come Lily killed my sister?
Just as I was about to walk to them and confront them, Sophie grabbed my arms, stopping me from taking another step.
“I wonder if Ava will ever believe you when she finds out that you used to physically abuse her sister?”
Julian's voice was laced with sarcasm as he glared at Ethan. I balled my hand into a fist.
“I will make Ava hate you so much that she won't believe a word out of your mouth. I will destroy everyone who cares about you, and I will use your wife for that.”
“Do whatever you want with her, I don't care.”
Julian slipped his hand into his pockets, and he began to stride out of the police station. Ethan stared at his back for a few seconds. He brought his phone out of his pocket, dialed someone's number, and brought the phone to his ear.
“I'm coming home with Ava, make sure Charlie will be very sick by the time we arrive there, and tell the doctor everything she needs to know before you call her.”
Ethan's voice was cold, a smirk stretching on his lips. He hung up the call and began walking into the police station.
My heart was banging so hard against my chest, their conversations now replaying in my brain, but I couldn't understand anything.
One thing is for sure, I need to find the truth and know everything on my own because I can't trust anyone.
“Ava, these people are playing a sick game with you, and you can't defeat them on your own. You need power, stoop to their level, and then you can think of destroying them. Play your cards wisely, or else you'd lose. They will have the last laugh, and you'll have the last cry if you don't use your brain.”
Sophie's words rang in my ears more than they should. Power. She's right; I need power to make sure these people suffer for their mistakes, but before that, I need the truth. I need to know the truth first.
As Sophie and I stepped outside the police station, my eyes widened to see a group of people gathering outside the police station.
“Ava must fall!”
They all shouted in unison. As their eyes landed on me, they started throwing stones, bottles, raw eggs, and rotten tomatoes at us. This is definitely Lily’s plan, and I'm sure of it.
