Chapter 4 : no man's land

1876 Words
i like my gran for one simple reason she was a human. she hated werewolf's the last time me and my mum came to her house when i had a broken leg she done nothing but rave about what a low life my father was a spinless coward. she still knew that i was always my father's daughter but because i was just human or just "Plain jane" as nana would call me she accepted me. she still hasn't even met Billy, kerry or claire just because they are more of what dad is than mum. Amy always said nana was just a lonely old drunk that couldn't see past her own nose still the fact my dad was even open to send me to nana's i instantly knew he just trying to get me out the pack out of sight out of mind. "you make no man's land sound bad" claires voice came from behind me on the stair. we both were sitting on the staire as my mum was packing my bags. I refused to help her never mind the fact i had spent last night trashing my room to make it even harder to pack everything. "The city is beautiful.. it's nana's apartment that is crappy" i said my eye's focused on my sketch pad sitting on my legs i was sitting just drawing a sketch of my mother. "your lucky jane, least your getting to see the outside the pack" she huffed i rolled my eye's at her. "getting to see... more like being FORCED" i yelled the word forced in the hopes my mum would hear i knew that my dad could hear us chatting. "Your being Dramatic" my mother called out from my room "it's only for a year or so" she continued. "I can't find nothing in this pigsty" she called out "oh well. just leave it mum i wont need to go" i called out smiling to myself my father caught me smiling "your still going so i suggest you get up to that room and help your mother" he said to me scolding me as if i were a child. "Yes sir!" i sarcastically said saluting him then taken my sketch pad and pencil up the stairs squeezing past my sister, "your not funny" my dad said it took me and my mum all morning to completely sort my clothes and pack my bags. i had a separate bag for laptop and camera and not to mention all my art stuff. my room looked more empty than it previously was. my mum had stripped all my bed and the cupboards and drawers empty. my mother had a land rover she took my bags from me and filled the backseat of the car. it wasn't much but my clothes were neatly folded in a medium sized suitcase my laptop bag, my camera bag and a medium sized box containing all my art stuff. i sat in the front passenger seat looking behind me to everything i owned. i gave a wave to my father and sister. my other siblings hadn't bothered to even show up to say goodbye. "what about my exams?" i asked my mum "the school has agreed you can take them at the community center in the city" she said. "you mean that grey ugly building that is near nana's apartment for troubled youths" i scoffed my mother slightly looked at me still trying to concentrate on her driving "It'a not too bad jane, i spoke to my mum a week ago she said the neighbor hood has got a lot nicer and she even won some money on a scratchcard so she's done up the flat for you" "wow" i said sounding dramatic my mum shook her head, i quickly got out my head phones and plugged it into my phone listening to music to avoid any sort of argument.  ((george jane's father P.O.V)) As i watched my mate and child drive off i could feel the pain in my heart. not just because my mate was leaving the pack territory but the fact she would be returning and Jane wouldn't be. my wife being human i never gave that much thought but unlike most wolfs they overall reject their human mates but no i could never reject my Alison. she is my world. all my kids have made me proud since the day they were born. including jane. "are you okay dad" claire looked up to me "fine" i smiled "it's for the best for her" i said to claire. she smiled and headed up to her room. i gritted my teeth at the words i had said, Alison's mum was a vile old woman with a black heart. she hated me because Alison choose me over her. i felt pain for Jane having to live with her but what choice did we really have. from what Alison had said her mum has giving the drink up and turned her life around i only hope that was still true. my Allison grew up in the scabby apartment her mother was simply a alcoholic i met Alison when she was 16 we got married when she turned 17. i saved her gave her the life she deserves i only wish i had more to give. werewolfs don't live forever but we do outlive humans the day that comes to pass is the day that will be truly my breaking point. i shudder at the thought of this. "George is it done?" a voice come's through the pack mind link "yes Alpha my jane has left" "very good, i am sorry George, you know it can happen sometimes" the alpha's words were kind but still they  didn't give me any sort of comfort. the mind link ended "happen sometimes" i scoffed to myself ((end of jane's father P.O.V)) ((BACK TO JANE)) i was shaken awake by mum we were parked outside my grans apartment the last time i was here you could smell the urine from apartment block the flower's were all dead and it looked like a drug den. "can't believe how much it's changed" my mother said delighted with the view in front of her. the flats had a real upgrade there was no awful smell the outside was all painted to look new and flowers grew in the plant boxes some of the flats even had balcony's attached outside it looked modern and up to date. no sign of graffiti any where.  "tax money at work" my mum smiled as she handed me my laptop bag and camera bag. i got out the car holding on to my possessions tightly just because this place had a make over didn't mean that low lives were not still lingering near. my mum took out my suitcase and art supplies. she closed the door and locked the car i followed her we were going to use the lift but the sign read : out of order "see something's never change" i said smirking at the sign "you don't have to be a smart ass over it" my mum said as she headed for the stairs. we got to the third floor flat number 3A my mum knocked a few time's no answer "well i vote we go home" i said happily my mum ignoring me she then  tried knocking louder. again no answer "she knew we were coming" she mumbled angrily at herself my mum pushed me a little out the way and lifted up the outside mat "A HA!" she was smiling as she lifted the spare key up from under the mat. she quickly placed the key in the door turning the key and pressing down on the handle the door opened. To our surprise the flat was seriously looking better. the smoke stains on the wall from gran chain smoking were gone. the place felt more of a home lovely decorated but still no sign of gran expect a note left on the coffee table. "you can sleep in my old room" i nodded and quickly made my way to the second bedroom i knew where everything was because of the last me and my mum had came here. the room had changed dramatically. gran really must of won a good amount of money. mum's old pull out sofa bed was gone and replaced by a double sleigh bed. the ugly brown plastered wall's were purple shade and white. the whole room smelled fresh. new drawers and wardrobe. but what i was most pleased with is my gran must of bought me a art desk with a built in light box it's exactly what i wanted the room was only slightly bigger than my own room. yet when me and my mum were here last time because of that much junk that filled it,  it looked so much smaller. "i need to go jane" my mum said "right now?" i said looking at my mum. apart of me forgot she wouldn't be staying this time "keep your phone on and i will call you" "here" she passed me a envelop with cash "theirs £250.00 pounds its from me and dad" it's not much but you know in case you need anything" she smiled pulling me in for a hug. "your gran will be home soon she's gone to the shops, that's what the note says" and just like that my mother was gone. The door closing over as i watched her leave. i looked out the living room window as i watched my mum get into her car and drive off she didn't notice me watching. i sat waiting for my gran to make a appearance over an hour of waiting sitting watching the door like some sort of lost puppy yet she didn't show. i got up and decided to unpack my stuff filling the drawers and wardrobes with my clothes and shoes. not that i had much stuff to put away. i hid the envelope of cash my laptop bag in case my gran might snoop. after getting everything i heard the front door click open. i left my room making my way to the front door. "Jane" my gran called out are arms opend wide i gave her a quick hug. i wasn't a huggable sort of  person, i could smell drink on her. "so much for quitting" i thought to my self "i'm just going to go to bed gran i'm really tired" i said "it's only 9pm jane" "don't be boring" my gran laughed. as she stumbled away to her room. she was a woman in her early 70's yet she always acted like some sort of lost teenager. i quickly retreated to my room getting ready for my bed i manged to quickly brush my teeth and wash my face quietly as i could trying my best to not wake her from her pit. climbing into bed it was actually better than my actual bed i had at my parent's house. the smell from the fresh cotton sheets helped me drift off to sleep quite quickly or maybe it was due to the tablets either way i didn't care i welcomed sleep as most teenagers do.
