A Helping Hand

“Denied, we can’t just expel a student just like that. How will the other nobles and royalty see us if we do that? Throwing away a talent like that in the sewers is the last thing we should do. I don’t need to remind you all of the last time we threw away a precious talent, it did not end well for us.” The headmaster says to Xerxes’ teacher after he went to plead for Xerxes’ expulsion. “But headmaster, for a student to use a f*******n spell like that- is ridiculous to keep him inside the academy for long. What if he uses it to threat other students?” the headmaster looks at the teacher’s desperate attempt and stomp at his attempt once again.

               “Are you so sure about that Mr. Inrad? It looks to me that you are desperate to throw that student away. Are you perhaps shielding that student that got badly injured? I heard from the other teachers that you stayed beside that student named Mathos the entire time. You did not even bother visiting that student. Are you saying that because he is injured he is not hurt anywhere?” the teacher swallows his desperation. [Those stick up bastards- to think that they really had to tell the headmaster about that. I-I just want to kill them!] he thinks to himself.

               The headmaster senses his contempt and tells him off. “Don’t even thinking of hunting those who opened their mouths about what you are doing. I was the one that asked them after the head doctor told me about the other student every time he is sent to the infirmary.” The headmaster said and added, “And don’t even think of touching a single hair on that doctor’s head for reporting. It is his job and he is not a person that you want to mess with. Now leave, there are other things that I need to attend to. There was no chance of you changing my mind in keeping that student here in the academy. I will think of a punishment for him myself so you don’t need to concern yourself about that matter because the order will still come from me after all.” The headmaster assert his dominance and strength behind his voice and turned the last drop of the teacher’s confidence into smoke.  

               The teacher then left the headmaster’s room in embarrassment and disoriented mind. “That teacher even has the nerve to say things like that when he is babying another student.” A man walks out of the hidden room in the wall. The headmaster shakes his head in disappointment for one of the teacher’s behavior. “I’m really sorry that you were the first one to find out about a teacher’s behavior and favoritism your highness. It is my fault for not looking after the teachers properly.” The headmaster kneels in front of the head doctor but quickly shakes off the headmaster’s gesture.

               “There is no need to go that far someone’s fault headmaster.” The head doctor sits in front of the headmaster but the headmaster persist. “No- it is all my fault. The mistakes of the people under me are my fault as the first rule of management.” The headmaster insisted. Jared sigh with a bitter face. [Ah- the headmaster is really persistent. But I guess that is something going on my favor.] he thinks to himself and finally decided to let the headmaster off. “Okay, so what do you plan to do?” he asked and the headmaster immediately recovers.

               “If other teachers are already aware of his actions then I’m afraid that some might follow his footsteps so I plan to announce something that will put an end to their plans before they can start doing it as well.” The headmaster responds with a stern look in his face. Seeing that the headmaster returned to his former self. The head doctor is rest assured that the headmaster will no longer pursue persisting about all of it his fault. “So what do you plan to give the  student as punishment? He is one of the students that I gave my support. As the future foundation of the kingdom’s strength, I plan to let him do what he wants to strengthen himself. But we can’t show that to other students and give us a wrong impression.” Jared says which surprise the headmaster entirely.

               [The prince himself is supporting that student? But if I give a harsh punishment to the student then that means I will be getting on the prince’s nerves?] the headmaster thinks to himself, Jared immediately understands what the headmaster thinks and so he tells him not to worry about it. “You are the headmaster of this academy. You should have no master nor should bow down to power. That is what your figure should be. I a, just merely stating my desires, that is up for you to decide on what you should do, you are the most powerful figure in the academy after all.” the head doctor says and stands up to leave the headmaster’s room.

               “Are you sure about that your highness? Whatever I decide, you will respect it?” the headmaster jolted up from his seat to ask the prince who humbly nods his head. “Yes, I decided to get out of the palace and experience the life of normal people so there is nothing wrong if you decide to punish the student that I want to support but I hope that your punishment will not hinder him from learning from the academy and that goes to everyone that has the same talent and future. We are an institution that molds the future legs of the kingdom after all.” The prince bows his head before leaving the headmaster’s room.

               The headmaster frozen stiff after seeing the future king of the kingdom that gentle and caring for it’s future subjects. “How benevolent you are my prince.” He mutters to himself and then sits back to write the things that he need to address. The order is then released, Kris is informed that the punishment for unleashing a f*******n spell will hinder him from advancing to a higher class but still retain the same privilege that any student has. But the fact of him using a f*******n spell is hidden from the students after they posted the notice on the billboard where every student are gathering to look at the announcements.

               Only a few number of students know of the incident and they are only those ones that are present that day. The headmaster told them all personally to keep the incident in the dark from the other students. “I will punish you for disobeying me if ever I hear a single rumor of the truth about that incident. I hope everyone of you understand me.” The headmaster made himself clear in front of all the students present that day and all of them nodded deliberately.

               “That is ridiculous! How can they do that? Preventing you from advancing to a higher class?! They are basically telling  you to rot in a low class! We should consult this to the headmaster himself!” Johannes protest but Kris stops him from making a scene inside the infirmary. “Stop it Johannes, there is no bending that decision anymore.” Kris says with a smile and sees that Johannes wants to smash his face in for smiling even in a dilemma. [I just hope that you don’t hit me. Your punch will hurt like hell.] Kris says to himself.

               The head doctor steps in and tells Johannes to calm down first and think things through. “That is the headmaster’s decision so protesting about it to the person who made the decision himself is useless. All that you can do is respect and be happy that he got away with only that. There is a rule that would expel a student if they did something outrageous and what Kris did just falls to that category.” Jared says as he adjust his glasses.

               “But if he stays in that class, he will get bullied by that wretched teacher all the time!” Johannes retorted with an angry tone. The head doctor smiles which immediately made Johannes more unstable and just want to wreck havoc in the infirmary but the head doctor’s next words hinder him from doing anything. “Oh- you didn’t know about the other order? Apparently, the headmaster got a wind of what that teacher is doing and so he ordered for every teacher that is displaying the same treatment to students will be thrown away and discarded by the academy and the headmaster personally.”

               An unbelievable step that the headmaster did which did not happen in the life that Kris before in the past. Both of them were speechless with Jared being the only one grinning. [You- you did something did you?] Kris wants to ask that question to the person before them knowing that with his authority and power alone he can change the rules of the academy to his liking but stops himself from asking anything and just faked a smile. “I heard that right? That guy will not be able to do those things again right?” tears run down Johannes face as he shake Kris continuously.

               “Yeah- you both heard that right. You can take your times to get stronger. Now, if you’ll excuse me. There are things that I should finish so I’ll go ahead first.” Jared says as he turns to walk back to his chair to write some reports. Johannes calls him out and thanks him for stopping him. “Thank you very much Mr. for being with my friend and treating his injuries. He may be troublesome at times but he does it with for a reason. Please take care of us!” Johannes bow his head and Jared shakes his head with a smile.

               “That goes without saying. Its my job to assist you students. I can also lend an ear when you are in trouble and pain so don’t hesitate to come to me in the future.” He says with a bright smile before turning his back. [I wish I had a friend that cares for me like that. I’m beginning to regret not ever getting close to someone in my younger years. If I had, would they also care for me like that?] he thinks to himself as his blissful times are over.

“I did not know that he is able to do that. I get it that he is really knows when to use a spell or not but to be able to cast multiple spells simultaneously, that’s unheard of. Not to mention the f*******n spell that he used in the end. What is that spell?” Flora asked the two are still disturbed of what they witnessed. “Ah- it’s a spell that no one really knows about. You can only use it if you are knowledgeable of the magic circles that composed the spell. Just like any other Rank S spells, it’s just as dangerous but that spell. There is nothing normal about it. Rank S Meteor shower is a spell that top level mages only use and it only showers meteorites  in a single wave but what we was like rain. It did not stop in the first wave and bombarded the arena continuously.” James says with an indifferent expression.

Just listening to what James said made Flora uncomfortable. “What are your thoughts about this?” James shakes his head. “I can’t really think of something properly right now. The image of the meteorites would not leave my head. It keeps me wondering if I was in that guy’s place, would I survive? There is no safe place inside that arena. Everything is turned to ash and a human would definitely turn into nothing.” James says.

               Flora turns to Ophir and remembers that there is nothing good in asking someone as stupid as him but to their surprise, Ophir says something that surprised them. “I’m no genius but It makes me wonder if he really is a low class student. If we do a background check then we might be able to understand why he is able to cast the spell in the first place.” For the first time in their lives, they heard Ophir said something that he would not usually say.

               “Wow, I did not think of that at all. That’s really surprising I did not expect for Ophir to say that.” Flora said in a funny tone but the two of them were not in for jokes and wonder for themselves. “I think we need to do a thorough background check. Not that it will be easy though. The teachers will try their best to conceal his identity if he has some kind of sketchy background.” James says after recovering from his shock.
