Fiona tried to smile. “Yes, everything is fine. Sorry to worry you, Mrs. Dennis.” The woman nodded. “Have a good evening,” she said, sent Shaun a wave, then headed back toward her office. Turning to look at Shaun, Fiona was surprised to find him smiling. “Climb in, Ian. Have you ever been in a cop car before?” Shaun asked. “No,” Ian said enthusiastically as he slid out of his backpack, dropped it on the passenger side floorboard, and clambered onto the front seat. “You can ride between me and your mom,” he said, answering Fiona’s unasked question about riding in the backseat.
