PROLOGUE
The world is loud enough, chaotic to be exact even though you would not witness it with your own eyes. Yet, how much more if you can listen to someone's thoughts through their sincere eyes?
A woman is on her way to a park, and to relieve some stress it became her habit to walk with her headphones on her. Somehow a cozy comfort and peace when she cannot hear any sound other than what she is listening to. As she crosses the street, a bike was behind her, beeping continuously but she cannot hear it, so her feet are still on their job, walking. The rider is somehow slowly losing his balance and cannot go to any other lane because of the crowd.
Why would someone ride a bike in a crowd anyway?
The biker panicked and pressed the brake as hard as he can. But he loses the formula on how to balance himself, even the bike could feel such a scenery.
Someone grabbed the woman's hands and pulls her to the other side of the road to avoid an accident if it were to happen. This is not some kind of drama where everything moves in slow motion, not in their world. She's shocked as if some lunatic was about to kidnap her, though she isn’t a kid anymore.
Kane instantly takes her hands back, confused and about to leave.
"Hey, are you out of your mind? Who wears headphones when crossing a street?" he said in a disturbing tone.
She just raised one of her eyebrows out of confusion and stands still in front of the guy. Forgot that she was about to leave. She continues to stare at the guy's couldn't-be-explained-face.
And the guy continues to give her a very straight sermon, "...or even just walking in a public place, you should be paying more attention. No matter how much you loved music, and your gray headphones" he said with a bit of bitterness.
She keeps her cool and poker face and not responding to what he just said. It left him puzzled. The guy is seeming to be wandering though he’s also standing still. Now he decides to remove her headphone hoping it’ll help the situation to be more understandable.
But what happened doesn't change anything or even her reaction. It just changed what she can hear, but not the reality that the world she is living in is not perfectly tuned, opposite to what song she listens to.
“Can she even hear what I am saying? Is she crazy? But…her clothes don't seem to define what a crazy person does wear. Hmp.” The guy continues to ask himself on his mind.
Not being aware of what the woman can hear just even looking at his stares.
Because she hears everything.
Kane couldn’t unhear every word the guy has said, they are both staring into each other’s eyes. As if it is a portal to their inner life.
People passed through and continue in different directions but the two of them just stand in front of each other as if they are waiting for the rain to pour amid summer.
"Hey, are you…" he pauses as he hesitates to ask such a question that could offend her. “...a deaf?" he asked. But then realized that he is holding that woman's headphones, so why ask such a question? Her answer is simply to look at what he's holding and staring back at him. Now he felt a bit uncomfortable.
"Oh, sorry. If that offends you," he said calmly and covers his mouth from any more speaking. Though he doesn't intend to talk, and just saving her from a possible accident, he found himself talking to that person.
The guy then resumes to what he is talking, "If you can hear, at least pay attention to what surrounds you, they might be dangerous." now it's not the woman's brow that raises, tabled has turned already.
"That includes you then" she coldly mumbled and then reached out to her headphones. She just sighed from the bottom of her diaphragm and listen to played music.
Now she started to continue walking towards the park and he was left, standing and staring at the distant back of the woman.
“She doesn’t care at all.” He whispered to himself.
They should be now have two different directions, but that guy's feet are still unknowingly following that woman's direction. As if his feet are more worried than what he is feeling right now, he's stunned.
Didn't realize until then that a meter distance sometimes feels like a mile away.
