Chapter One A text from the boss!
Moon releases a sigh of frustration at the beeping noise. She rolls her eyes and glares at her phone screen. "Miss Chantel, I need you in my office in the next five minutes." It is a text from boss, Zanga. This would mark the twentieth time that Moon would be going to his office since the day started. Zanga has been torturing Moon by making her leave her desk to come to his office whenever he has any question to ask her. Even basic questions that he could ask over the phone, he preferred to see her in person and question her about it. Moon groans in frustration and slams her hand on the desk earning a few glares from her colleagues passing by. She forces a smile on her face while rising to her feet knowing fully well that she does not exactly have much of an option than to obey her boss. Her best friend, Solange always advises her to quit her job whenever Moon comes back from work with an exhausted look on her face but Moon knew quitting was not an option. The pay is huge, and it covers for most of her bills so quitting her job will only wreck her financially and cause her to go back to her former situation. Moon walks towards the elevator, she steps into it and presses a few buttons for the fifth floor. The thing Moon is ultimately grateful for at her workplace, aside from her huge pay check is that the elevators work perfectly fine. If they did not work well, Moon would have to climb the stairs from the first floor up to the fifth floor every time Zanga asked for her presence. Moon stands firm and fiddles with her palms nervously. The elevator door dings open. She steps out of the elevator and makes sure her fake smile is plastered perfectly on her face. She makes her way to the last office on the left, where Zanga's office is. As her footsteps draw closer, she hears slow music blaring from his office and she can not help but roll her eyes. "Of course. He gets to enjoy music while he works, is that not enough distraction for him? He will not even let me have a minute of peace to myself." Moon soliquizes angrily. She stumps her foot in anger and delivers a small knock on the door. Zanga does not respond so Moon assumes his music is way too loud for him to hear her so she does not bother to knock again. She pushes the door open, then meets Zanga sitting comfortably on his chair close to his front desk which is littered with a lot of paperworks. His eyes are shut close and the first two buttons of his long sleeve shirt is left open causing Moon to mentally drool over his bare chest. Zanga clears his throat and snaps his eyes open. His eyes access Moon's features from head to toe and his eyes finally settle on her face. He archs a brow at her causing her to bow her head low in respect. "What happened to knocking Miss Chantel?" Zanga snaps at Moon with a huge scowl playing on his face. "I did knock sir, you just did not hear me." Moon says through gritted teeth. She releases a heavy sigh and clenches her fist tight in order to avoid letting her Zanga's words get to her in any way. "Oh so you just decided to invite yourself in?" Zanga pauses to scoff and roll his eyes at her. "No sir, I mean yes sir, I assumed your music would not allow you to hear me knocking." Moon says, her head still bent low. "Who the hell are you to make assumptions about me Miss Chantel?" Zanga raises his voice a bit at her but it is not anything new to her as Zanga has always been mean to her the moment she started working as his secretary. "No offense sir, but my assumptions happened to be correct. You did not hear my knocking due to your loud music and it would only be pointless to keep knocking plus you know you hate when your time is being wasted. Right?" Moon says adding a nervous chuckle at the end of her statement to lighten up the atmosphere but that does not work because Zanga slams his desk causing Moon to get startled. She raises her head up and glares at him with a raised brow. "I take huge offense Miss Chantel. I take huge offense in what you just said and do you know what I dislike about you the most? You never know when to stop talking!" Zanga snaps. Moon gives up knowing it is pointless arguing with her nonchalant boss. "I am sorry, sir. I apologize sincerely. None of this will ever repeat itself again." Moon says faking sincerity in her tone. "Just leave Miss Chantel. Out of my office." Zanga snaps at her. Moon stares at him in disbelief. "But sir, you called me here in the first place." "You see what I am talking about Miss Chantel. You just do not know when to shut up!" Zanga yells rising to his feet and pointing towards the door. Moon staggers backward at his sudden outburst. She lets out a deep sigh and apologizes one last time before walking out of the office. She scoffs at how he dramatically slams the door in her face. Moon buries her face in her palms at how humiliating that just went. She runs a hand through her hair and starts to regret ever working for him but she does not let regret overwhelm her the moment she remembers how much her paycheck is and how it is helping her recover from her student debts and other debts she has to cover. Knowing that she has to calm herself tries to regulate her breathing which helped her relax. She straightens the waist of her pencil skirt as she makes her way back to her desk with only one thing on her mind. "Why does he hate me?"
