Chapter 20

718 Words
Rory's days blended together in a haze of boredom and despair. She was trapped in the cell, with no way out. The only light came from a small torch in the corner, casting flickering shadows on the walls. The food was plain and tasteless, but Rory was grateful for it. She was hungry all the time, and the meager rations were all that kept her going. As the days passed, Rory began to lose hope. She had been trapped for so long, with no sign of rescue. She wondered if Elijah was even looking for her, or if he had given up. One day, as Rory was pacing back and forth in her cell, she heard the sound of footsteps outside. The slot in the wall opened, and a tray of food was passed through. But this time, there was something different. A small piece of paper was attached to the tray, with a message scrawled on it. "Help is coming," the message read. "Hold on." Rory's heart leapt with excitement as she read the message. Could it be true? Was someone coming to rescue her? She looked around her cell, wondering if there was any way she could escape. But the walls were solid, the door was locked, and the window was barred. Rory was trapped, with no way out. All she could do was wait, and hope that the message was true. ---- Rory's days turned into weeks, and she began to lose hope. She had been trapped for so long, with no sign of rescue.
